WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

That's it in a nutshell. As as soon as the BTN was announced, I knew those 10:35 PM tape-delays on WHA-TV were history. (Back in the day - here I go again - as soon as the game was over and 8,662 were trying to get out of the Coliseum parking lot, you would hit your favorite watering hole and watch the game you just left.)

They are not history, they just don't air them on nights when the game is on Big Ten Network.

Regardless, besides the example of watching it immediately at a bar, I'm not sure why anyone watches the re-air on PBS. In this day in age with DVR and TIVO, why wouldn't you just record the game in HD and then watch it whenever you want later? Unless you just really like listening to Robb Vogel (and I like Robb).

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

Say what you want, the Badgers won Saturday, but in reality they should have lost.

Bemidiji was the far better team for two periods, had the better power play (by far), and except for two horrendous turnovers by the goalie would have won this game.

We can’t get it out of our end. I bet the time of possession in your own zone was 75% to our 25% in the third period.

This team and Eaves recent teams have been so offensively challenged it is hard to watch. I am sure the terrible crowds in recent years and this year in particular have a lot to do with it. As crazy as a fan as I am, I am considering giving up my tickets (I have Friday and Saturday tix). I don't know who to complain too, but things have to change and change fast.

It looks like Chase Drake might be the D man to be able to shoot off the pass. His wicked slap shot one timer in the second was impressive. He looks like he wants to shoot more but they can't seem to get him a pass where he wants it.

As far as this weekend, when Minnesota reaches 3 goals the game is over. I expect that Friday and Sunday so I am not too optimistic. Going to both games, and hope we can pull off a miracle, but have low expectations.

I agree about Drake, he looked good against the USA team earlier in the year on the PP. Then he was not in the line up until injuries and world juniors. For whatever reason, Drake has been given zero opportunities in his time at UW. I give him a lot of credit for sticking around. Every 4 years there always seems to be one player at UW that doesn't get a chance to play that much in his career and for the most part it seems Drake has been slotted in that role. He had a nice blast from the point on the PP Saturday night. The team's passing ability is very low and it is magnified on the PP.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

To make the NCAA tournament, UW can take three losses (or loss equivalents (2 ties=1 loss) through the end of the WCHA playoffs. Assuming one loss at the F5, that means they can afford 2 losses total against MN, UNO, PSU, SCSU, and the first round WCHA playoffs. That would bring their TUC record up to about 0.500 which is about where it needs to be historically to earn an at large bid.

Has anyone heard of any pregame tailgates for Sunday's game? Some of the others in our group heard something on the radio that the band will be at a location, but didn't catch the place's name.

That is two saturday nights at home for UW, because I felt the same way after the UAA series. They did just enough to win, and since UAA is just that bad they couldn't capitalize on the Badgers poor play. Bemidji had some nice chances to tie it up late this time around, it was too close after a strong start by Bucky.

I don't know what it is that keeps this team from excelling. This group isn't the most talented team UW has had, but home ice shouldn't be an issue at this point. Unless they get home ice, friday might be my last game at the KC this season. I'm not going to the PSU series, Sun/Mon doesn't work into my schedule, especially when I have no interest in seeing that opponent. Looking forward to the Colesium series though w/ St Cloud.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. XXIV - Craziest Season Of All Time

The whole place is BORING outside of the student section.
But how was the VIEW? I love those seats for that.

Boringness....good point.

The seats were great. We sat in row A @ center ice in the 200's for fill the bowl a couple years ago, so I knew the seats were going to be sweet, and they did not disappoint. I assume the funds were located. Thanks again.

Do we even want UW to make the ncaa's? It's not likely at all they'll get through to the end with only 3 loses, but it's interesting discussing the impact.

Yep. Got em.

I don't know how many games you've been to over the past couple of seasons, but dull atmosphere is the norm now, not the exception.

Unfortunately.

Sometimes it says something when a team doesn't have its best fastball, and can still find a way to win.

Did I read that right? You are wondering if you even want the team to make the NCAA? Umm.... Why not. Take a swing. Weirder things have happened, See Bemidji's frozen 4.

Then we're stuck with Eaves for even longer. A short term loss could be a long term gain.

Barnes....I thought he got benched due to his play or Eaves was trying to get more O with Woods in the top 2 lines, but he just missed a meeting and got benched. I too thought Drake played well. He seems to be a little more offensively minded than Frankie.

Because making the NCAA will most likely be considered "Good Enough" by the powers that be and thus the desired changes (or any change for that matter) will be far less likely to occur during the off-season.

I have a hard time accepting that. This is the whole "suck for Luck" thing all over again. As much as you despise current conditions, it would be tough to root against the team for reasons like that. To each their own, I guess. But that's okay by me. I don't need to see bucky in the NCAAs so best of luck. :D

I will be annoyed if Drake is not in the line up next week. He seems like the only player on the PP confident enough to shoot off the pass. Plus, his shot is not all that bad from what I have seen in his limited action. Barnes has flashes off offense, but lacks the ability to put the puck away after his moves. If he can find the touch or gets a bit of confidence back he can become a scoring threat. I too thought he was benched.

I do have to disagree with the NCAA comment, but understand the thought process in getting rid of Eaves. With our goaltending, if we can sneak in we may be able to make a little run if we get some good match ups in the tourney.
