Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

A few random thoughts...

• Makes more sense to have it in Chicago now that I know of Notre Dame & Miami being involved, also that a sports promotional company is staging it - not the involved schools. Essentially, we're being invited (and paid) to attend.

• The outdoor games in football/baseball stadiums are tired. Can't wait for all the cliched talk/interviews/features on how this is how we all grew up with the game. You know, outdoors on a pond, in a football stadium. My kid has probably skated about 1% of his total ice time outside. TIRED!

• If we're going to do an outdoor game(s) with Minnesota, it should be at TCF and/or Lambeau. Camp randall is too big and not a destination worthy of the effort like Lambeau is. TCF looks beautiful and would sell out fer shure!

• Did I mention that the novelty for these games is wearing thin?

• Finally, at least Chicago is a good destination city to have this in. I can see people wanting to do this and spend the weekend down there. With Soldier Field's proximity to downtown, it could be fun - for those who want to go (not me :p).

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

Zero comments about the game last night? Wisconsin is going to need to play three periods if they want to win tonight, and stay out of the box. Too many penalties in the first...GREAT second period...but a pretty weak third.

Also, LaBate either got injured (I didn't notice it), or he was benched the last 10 minutes of the game when Eaves went to 3 lines. He didn't have his best game and took a penalty so I'm thinking the latter.

Surprised not more chatter about men's game last night. Paper said Peterson played very well. Agree Chuck? Did you stream game? I was pleased from what I read and heard about the way they got the lead.

Why did Beavers have the disallowed goal?

Nice to see Badgers hold lead on road. The home crowd sounded pretty quiet last night on the radio. You are right Chuck. Badgers have to play a whole game to win tonight. It would be a first this year. Eaves should go back to Peterson.

Labate probably got a bench lesson last night.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

Nice win last night through my causal following via Chuck's live chat! Does anyone have an opinion on where they would like us to travel to in the first round? Based on last weekend, I think Denver would be the lesser of three evils (Denver, UND, UMD). If we play like we did last weekend, which is a stretch on the road, I think we at least have a chance to steal two. I did not get a chance to watch the UND series, but they are never a team that I enjoy playing late in the season.

I actually got the game on TV here in Minnesota last night.

Peterson did play very well last night, although Rumpel will start tonight.

Disallowed goal happened because the ref was blowing his whistle as he though the puck was covered up.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

wow. great weekend for UW. Definitely something to build on heading into RIVALRY WEEK!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

Big road sweep. Saw a lot of nice things this weekend. Frankie Simonelli has taken the next step in his game.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

Hopefully the new road-karma finds its way into Rodentia! You better have a chat, Chuck.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

Excellent sweep. I got to listen to the last of the 3rd period and the postgame on the way home from the gal's game. Great to see Little and Navin score, it's good for 1st Star and Schultz to know the other guys can contribute so they don't feel quite so much pressure to score. Allowing 2 ppg's Saturday makes me a bit concerned for the upcoming series, the rodents have way more talent than the Beavers do, but UW held DU's PP in check, so there is some positve progress in the woeful pk.

As far as opponets for next week, if UW can avoid the dawgs and the rodents, it will be good. It looks as of right now that's nearly a guarentee from a quick view of the standings.

I'm interested in who plays in goal Friday. Petersen and Rumpel are on nearly = terms right now, and they are both playing well.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

I'll have one regardless, but it sounds like I'll be running it live from the Mariucci press box. Even better.

Check out the new goofer thread. They hope they can get up for a 9th place team for the cup.

No respect , just what we want. All about goofer all week in media. We're playing better than 9th at the moment.

We come in there loose, anything can happen. No down side to losing other than pride and pay back for next season.

And since a couple of Minnesota fans that post on USCHO actually play on the Gopher hockey team, this lack of respect will certainly carry over into this weekend's games. Also, do not forget the fact that Minnesota is still in a heated race for the MacNaughton Cup and are not assured of an NCAA tournament berth at this point. Those are another couple reasons for the Gophers to not mentally show up for the games.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XX - Growth Through Experience

Minny thread started the 9th place thing.

Rivalry is a few years old by now. Probable you guy's take two in a year you have the better team. Hold serve you win.
You should win with that roster against 17 underclassmen. Surprise.

At least Wisconsin competes with Minny in hockey unlike football and basketball where its another story. Will give you the arm pit sport.

Obviously you don't know much about the Gopher roster if you are going to throw out the "we're playing a ton of underclassmen" as an excuse.

Both teams are real young. Should bode well for the future of both programs hopefully.

UW's numbers. (Keep in mind Minnesota played 3 more games)

Freshmen - 191 total games, 54 pts (2 fr goalies) -- 31.41% of games played (MN 26.17%)
Sophomores - 283 total games, 143 pts -- 46.55% of games played (MN 45.86%)
Juniors - 104 total games, 70 pts -- 17.1% of games played (MN 5.26%)
Seniors - 30 total games, 5 pts -- 4.93% of games played (MN 22.71%)

We haven't fared well in MPLS going back to the ol' Williams Arena. This would be an awesome year to sweep the goofs under the rug.
