Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Congratulations BC. Great game tonight, you were the best team, no doubt.

Please don't let the rest of my post take anything away from the effort of your boys tonight, you played awesome.

I am just a die hard Badger fan, and I need to vent some things to make myself feel better (IF the game went the other way, I'd let you do it).

A couple bad calls by the refs really hurt the Badgers momentum. BC's first goal was on a bad call (in my opinion). Mitchell's elbow was a bad call. Turnbul's contact to the head looked bad, although the tv did not get a good view of it. I was also surprised at how many times Geoffrion was kicked out of the face off circle.

That all being said, a great team should be able to overcome the refs, and we did not do that tonight. We had a lot of great opportunities tonight that we either did not convert on, or Muse came up HUGE.

Davies normally can stick handle "inside a phone booth", and he showed that when he caught that pass out of the air....but then the puck hopped over his stick, and he didn't even get a shot on that break away. (I'm not blaming you at all Davies, two great opportunities just did not work out...you still rock :)

We had a ton of opportunities where we could not put the puck away (being our own fault or Muse's awesome saves).

Ok, thanks for reading all of that (if you still are), and congratulations to BC on being the 2010 national champions, and congratulations to my Wisconsin Badgers for an unbelievable season. My hat is off to you both.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Sconi joins UND as teams that BC makes their bit*ch in the playoffs, classic! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Anyways at least the NCAA gave you your first Hobey winner. Of course that was only because you made it further than Denver in the playoffs, and I guess the regular season doesn't matter when it comes to Hobey Baker voter. Also, the voters were sicking of hearing how Sconi has never won a Hobey before and they wanted to shut their fan base up from all the crying.

No suprise you lost tonight, BC was the first decent team you have played since WCHA league play...seriously Sconi must have had the easiest road to the finals in the NCAA history. RIT in the Semi's, what a joke! You played nobody and you were exposed for what you are... and average team with a terrible goalie. I posted numerous times in previous threads that you drunkin Sconi's will go nowhere with the soft goalie. The best part of all is you have a ton of seniors and guys who will turn pro, so next year you will be in the bottom of the wcha where you belong. Today is a good day!;)

*rolls eyes*

I love idiots. I'm surrounded by so many of them here in Minnesota.

Hey, pig, I know you do this to just get a rise out of other people, but tonight, I feel like obliging you.

BC has not made us their ***** like ND...we beat them in 06, remember (oh wait, you probably don't remember that because you were still trying to figure out how the heck Holy Cross beat you that year).

How can you say anything about being in the bottom of the WCHA, when your frickin' rodents finished 7th this year. They are the perfect example of a team at the bottom of the WCHA, where they belong.

Call upstairs to your mom, and ask her to tuck you in, because I don't think you want to get into this argument with me tonight.

I haven't heard anything...

That was scary, head first. I am encouraged by the fact that he got up and skated off on his own. I'm sure he'll be hurting tomorrow, but I hope that he will be fine.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Well, I've had a little time to gather my thoughts.

Very disappointing game, but not completely unexpected that we'd lose to that team. They were a bad match-up for us and I was quite worried today. In contrast, I was quite confident in 06. Two very different match-up scenarios.

I believe that their speed wasn't the end all, but their quickness and their good sticks were killer. Like I said in the other thread, it seemed like they each carried two sticks to have in the lanes. It reminded me a lot of what we did to teams in 06 where we would block so many shots and take away the front of the net.

Their quickness was lethal and I didn't feel like we ever really adjusted to the limited time that we had with the puck. Seemed like we always were a half second too late with our decisions.

This quickness also helped them to win the individual battles although they certainly seemed more tenacious than us. It's hard to say that they wanted it more as sometimes when a player has to over-skate to get to the play, they are too gassed or off balance when they get there and lose the battles due to that.

Muse got a shutout, but I wouldn't say he was spectacular.

We still had a puncher's chance, but Davies' flub and Goody giving up that second goal were the key moments. He has to make that save in a National Championship game, he just does. Not blaming him for the loss, but that was the back breaker for our "puncher's chance." The 4th goal was weak too, but by then it was over anyway.

It's a shame it has to end this way and it was fun to go on a run again.

In the post game on the radio, Osiecki said that "he's fine."

They said that he was in street clothes at the end of the game and went out for the handshake, although needed assistance to get back off the ice.

PS: That WJC made me a big fan of your guy too and the tear he was on at the end scares the heck out of me for next season.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Congrats to the Badgers on what *should* be considered a a great season. You guys would have better off playing Miami. BC was just not the right matchup for Wisconsin.

As much as I hate admitting it, I also have to congratulate the Badgers for a great season. Make no mistake, I was definitely cheering long and hard for BC tonight (though I have to admit, I had to shower after cheering for them too) in the title game, but the Badgers had a terrific season, and as much as I hate you guys, you run a very good, clean program. Congratulations to Geoffrion winning the Hobey, and here is to hoping the Gophers make the rivalry a decent one next year!

Ok I'll play along with the troll.
1) If going to the NC game is nowhere, I'll take nowhere any day.
2) if we are at the bottom of the league next year, with the way Minnesota is going, they'll still be looking up at the Badgers.
Now go troll in the middle of Lake Superior, and don't forget the cement shoes.

Since there is a 90% chance you aren't the least bit serious with this post I'll chuckle along. On the 10% chance you really meant any of this unreadable drivel, please go get a vasectomy as soon as possible to save the world from further idiocy from your bloodlines.

Now to people worthy of discussion. What can you say, BC was the better team tonight and deserved the win, although now I think I realized why I've never liked midgets. The quantity of the chances for the Badgers wasn't there, but the quality was. They just didn't bury their chances and Muse was rock solid.

I want to be clear what I'm about to say is an observation and isn't a suggestion that this was the reason for who won and lost tonight. Like I said before, BC was the better team tonight and deserved the win. Was there an official rule change I didn't hear about where they decided a shoulder to the chest was close enough to an elbow to the head to just call elbowing? If this wasn't a rule change, then either myself or the one official who called several of these had an epic fail in anatomy class. I always believed the part of the body attaching your arm to your upper torso was the shoulder but he believes it is called the elbow based on tonight's calls. I also believed the part below your neck was called the chest, but based on tonight I can only surmise he believed it was called the head. If there is a doctor or someone specializing in the body in the house please let me know which of us is correct.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

I hate BC so much but Sorry Guys..you have some great players and Hobey..but let's face it if you were in Hockey East you would be at best 6th place team. HE is now by far the best college hockey in the country. All of the teams top to bottom should generally have made the tournament this year, and I think the NCAA has very clear example of why the tournament needs to be expanded.

I mean BC just beat you so badly...it was embarrassing, BC toughest games this season were league games v. UNH, BU and Northeastern. Hockey East home games in Boston are better hockey than any that I saw in the tournament. I was great to be in the Motor City though and the Wisconsin fans were the salt of the earth..good people. It was fun to meet you all!
If anyone should be embarassed it's you with the last part of your first sentence.

you are an idiot, and I'm guessing new to NCAA hockey. Go look up NCAA titles from the inception of the sport to now. The West has been and likely always will be the best. Put BC, UNH, BU and Maine in the WCHA schedule and the smackdowns would open your eyes playing Nodak 4 times, Minnesota, Denver, Wisconsin, St. CLoud, Mankato, UMD... I mean, get real.

Sorry dude.
I don't want to do this to a fan of a non-minnesota based school but for you I have too

if you don't understand that I can't help you

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

...

I have to congratulate Boston College and Jerry York. Great team, great program, class acts all around.

In regard to Wisconsin, I thought they played pretty **** well except the 1st 1/2 of the 1st period where they looked a bit apprehensive. They just played against the mirror image of the 06 team in BC, where BC constantly broke up passes and transitioned so well.

Sometimes you know when it's your night, and when the puck jumps over Davies stick right at the end of the breakaway I kind of thought...."this isn't going to be Wisconsin's night" that and when the puck eluded Bendickson just after he tap dances through 3 BC players.

random thoughts...

on the pessimistic side
For the immediate future I'm pretty worried.

Gudmanson allowed 2 goals tonight that should never have gone in. regular season, scrimmage, NCAA title game, whatever. those 2 5-hole goals were atrocious. and we've got one more season of sub-par goaltending then if the coaches can't help he and Bennett.

Can Jason Clark, Tyler Barnes, Mark Zengerle, Jefferson Dahl, Michael Mersch step in and score? I don't know. I'm very concerned with that.

Also we have to hope Stepan, Gardiner, and Goloubef don't leave as well. that would gut the team like nothing I've seen before.

the incoming defenseman over the next 2 seasons are not Smith, McDonagh, etc caliber so weaknesses in scoring will be magnified even further.

Eaves and Oseicki have a TON of work to do. Right now I see this team going in cycles of 2-3 sub-par to average years and then every 4th year being a good to great year with potential for a frozen four.

on the optimistic side

Podge Turnbull plays every game next season.
Derek Lee gets to play a full season to show what he can do.

perhaps Zengerle, Barnes, Clark, Mersch, Dahl could be as good as the guys leaving?

UW gets a full-time goalie coach.

Keegan Mauer is a solid player???

thoughts?

and on the optimistic side for the season that just ended... This 2009-2010 team went much further than I thought they could. I just never believed they were Frozen Four bound from the outset. I didn't get that team of destiny feeling at all...

but I have to hand it now to Coach Eaves, Oseicki, Patrick, and to Geoffrion, Smith, Davies, Bendickson, Bombach, et al. they really exceeded my expectations by quite a bit.

overall a great season. not the final result we wanted but only 2 teams can play on that last saturday and I'll take UW playing every time win/lose/draw

so 11 Frozen Fours
9 times UW gets to the title game in 11 Frozen Fours
UW goes 6-3 in NCAA Title Tilts

I'd take that as a fan any day of the week.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Im proud of how the Badgers played this season. Falling short of the national championship hurts, but all in all it was a great season.
All in all, I thought the Badgers did well for most of the game keeping with BC's speed (and BC is a VERY fast team), they just missed far too many shots and didnt give Gudmanson enough help on defense. He played great, but he cant be expected to do it all on his own. Gudmanson is most definetly not a, "soft" goalie. Take any other goalie and put him in that position and the score would have been just as high, if not higher.
I also felt that the refs screwed the UW on a lot of calls. BC was taking a lot of cheap shots (lots of little elbows to the head and shoves into the boards) that the refs didnt call, whereas it seems like they called the UW on a lot of those same incidents.
Having said that, a great team needs to be able to overcome things like that and the Badgers simply didnt get the job done.
Congrats to BC on a well-played game and on winning the championship. Hopefully the Badgers can rebuild and make another run at it next year.

Podge was one of our most noticeable forwards last night and they even showed him on the bench trying to fire everyone up. He must have a regular spot next season.

I agree with the assessment that this team exceeded expectations, at least my own. Like you, I never really believed in them as a championship team coz of their inconsistencies throughout the season and goaltending.

They were a different opponent away from a possible NC, and I'll take that any time, even though this is an empty feeling today.
