Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Keep thinking that way SOLOV, BC is one of the top three programs in the country and Wisco is not in the circle yet, they might get there but they aren't there now. If they played in the WCHA they would win there are well.
UW still has more championships than BC does. Whatever you gotta tell yourself though...

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Keeping in mind the historical significance of these sorts of statements (best program in the country) BC fans should be grateful that it would probably be a unanimous decision to put them in the top... 7 or 8 programs in the country. It's the 4 WCHA powers (UM, UND, UW, DU), and Michigan and BU for sure. BC's case is probably as strong as Michigan State's, with an extra vote for their extra title I suppose.

BC's run in the past decade is very impressive, of that there is no doubt. BC fans have the right to be proud of that. But its still only the last decade. That doesn't catapult them past other programs with several more titles (i.e. Wisconsin, Michigan, Denver and North Dakota for sure) any more than the Patriots can claim to be one of the best NFL franchises ever (over, for instance, the Giants, Packers and Bears) just because they won three titles in a decade.

right on EODS.

and I'd add Michigan Tech to the historically significant franchises. 3 titles up in Houghton, and when they did it (while there were fewer schools playing) they were still beating UMN, Nodak, UW, Michigan, Denver to get there.

Exactly.

And sorry I'm late with this, but congrats on a good run.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

How long do you think it will take before we start getting word on what McD, B Smith, Golo, Gardiner, and Stephan will do?

Is Blake going to sign with Nashville and play for Milwaukee in the AHL playoffs or does he finish up his degree?

I wonder where Mitchell and Davies will end up. Davies will truly be missed. He was a lot of fun to watch over the four years.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Well, I have a few days to clear my head....here some some random thoughts...

Goody....That 2nd goal, though a backhand, was in pretty close. I'm on the fence on whether or not it was soft. It's the Goody/Bennett show again next year as Rumpel is coming in the next year. Jeff Sanger is the volunteer goalie coach whose hours being put in is equal to what Howie was doing, which was more that Valley was allowed to do.

If I were Eaves, I'd not recuit a forward over 6-1 or 6-2 with this illogical blow to the head stuff being called because of the height differences in players.

Yeah, the boys seemed off in their effort on the lose puck battles, but if Bendickson and Davies convert on the prime chances (neither of which made it to the net), it's a 2-1 or a 2-2 game, depending on when Davies' occurred. Who knows then....

I too was shocked to see Geoffrion get tossed out of so many faceoffs. He was a machine when he was allowed to take one.

In the end it sucks to get so far and not close the deal. Still was a great season and now that Geoffrion has won the Hobey, the flood gates will open for UW. Stepan will bag it next year. Great to see 4 players over 50 points after all those lean scoring years.

It's going to be a fun summer prognosticating where the scoring is going to come from. I don't think a repeat of 4 50 pts scorers is going to happen, but I'm feeling pretty good about next year's team. :)

I've gone almost two whole days with that blocked out of my head.

That was really annoying. I stopped trying to figure out why people were getting tossed out of faceoffs. Especially when they'd toss both players out just as soon as they got into the circle. Bizarre.

I thought BC was doing that on purpose to neutralize Blake. One of their wingers would start tussling for position with our guy, swipe sticks, etc, then boom, the linesman or ref blows the whistle, Geoffrion is out and BC wins the face off. Seemed to happen a lot.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

My F4 thoughts:

Detroit as a host city was a shocking suprise to me. Nothing at all what I expected from the reputation and the brief glimpse getting misdirected in downtown a few years back trying to find the tunnel to Windsor. Very vibrant downtown that was as safe as any other big city downtown area. Don't know if that was the exception to the norm because of the Frozen 4 and the Tigers opening weekend, but a big thumbs up to downtown Detroit as host.

Ford Field as a venue for the national championship in mens hockey was an utter disgrace. I'm sure it's more then fine for oblong ball, but for hockey and a CHAMPIONSHIP at that, it is a failure in so many ways. First and most importantly, despite what the talking heads wanted to say on ESPin, the ice was aweful. When at every stopage, you have people with buckets of snow packing bad spots...the ice is bad. When 5 minutes after the zamboni has finished, you have guys with squeegie's trying to spread massive quantities of standing water, the ice is bad. An hour before the championship game, I saw the crews working with a fire extinguisher and a pump up spray you would use in the yard for weeds. While I have used the pumpup sprayer on my backyard rink, I've never used a fire extinguisher back there and while the stakes in the championship of the universe with my 7 year old are pretty high, we don't award a trophy for that (we normally just play another game...until I get lucky and win a game). The riser section (we sat in the 4th row of) were beyond aweful for sightlines considereing how close to the ice we were. How on earth you can call those sections "risers" when they have no slope or rise is beyond me. The accoustics of the sound system was aweful. The video board was showing the game backwards from the way it was being played on the ice. A new indoor attendance record for a hockey game is nice and pays some of the bills, but NOT for a championship game.

On the Badger performance...they accomplished what I expected which was to be in the thick of the national title discussion all year and for the most part they did that and got to play on the last day which 57 other teams would have gladly traded them for. RIT game was just a complete destructive domination. I was sitting there after we had rolled our first 3 lines out thinking this is going to get ugly. I don't think RIT crossed center ice even once in any of our first 3 shifts. BC...unfortunately our achiles heel rared it's ugly head, namely goaltending. That 2nd goal was deflating and the backbreaker we never bounced back from. The dman did a nice job of forcing the BC player not only to the outside, but also to his backhand both of which are exactly what you want. Your goalie HAS to stop that weak backhander from the face off dot EVERY time. Badger nation seemed ready to rock when the game started, but had nothing to cheer about after that point. It would have been nice had Guddy stopped that shot and maybe Davies converted one of the grade A chance he got, I think the momentum would have swung 180 degrees and it would have been interesting to see how things would have went from there.

Credit to BC for doing what it did to never let UW get the momentum or into the game (I thought we had the better of the play in the second...but in the end had nothing to show for that).

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

If anyone happened to record the game and has not erased over it, I would love to track down a copy of the entire game. I should have a recording of this mornings rebroadcast, but those generally are somewhat edited. My son was the little dude in the fake stash that got shown during the game and was part of the game highlight package on sportscenter.

Seemed that they got Craig Smith to bite on that more than a few times. Coaches might have wanted to notice that and tell him to just take it.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Hey, pig, I know you do this to just get a rise out of other people, but tonight, I feel like obliging you.

BC has not made us their ***** like ND...we beat them in 06, remember (oh wait, you probably don't remember that because you were still trying to figure out how the heck Holy Cross beat you that year).

How can you say anything about being in the bottom of the WCHA, when your frickin' rodents finished 7th this year. They are the perfect example of a team at the bottom of the WCHA, where they belong.

Call upstairs to your mom, and ask her to tuck you in, because I don't think you want to get into this argument with me tonight.

I;m pretty sure BC demolished Minnesota in the 2008 regionals...

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

I'm just saying BC, BU, UNH, Maine playing WCHA schedules won't come out like they do in Hockey East. The WCHA is a punishing league.

BC would be a top 5 WCHA school. Where in the top 5 would change annually as it does for UW, Nodak, Denver Rodents etc

also - not to ruffle feathers But I'm not about to say BC is the premier program in the country since Jerry York took over. Gimme a break. I'm just not going to do it. 10-12 years ago michigan fans said the same thing, then Denver, then minnesota, BC is now at the top of the cycle. great program, yes. Premier? I don't concede that.

But what I'd love to see is BC schedule OOC weekends annually a top 4-5 WCHA school and over time see what the results would be

If BC didn't regularly destroy the WCHA's best teams in the NCAA, you'd have a point. This isn't just recently, either. Back in 99 and 2000, BC beat North Dakota and Wisconsin in the regionals, beat UND in 2001 in the final, etc. I think the Eagles would be fine in the WCHA.

You've had a good decade. Want a cookie?

BC hasn't really been a "great" regular season team under York, but you're right. They'd be fine in the WCHA.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Seriously...do you have nothing better to do then gloat in a Badger thread on a messageboard? You should be shopping for you're championship merchandise...there's a tab on the left hand side of this page. Keep an eye on ESPN, they might run that SI promotion where you can get a hard bound commomerative copy of the championship edition, with a puck or throw rug.

Good point, we'll go back to shopping for gear and we'll let you guys go back to coming up with clever "Eavesisms" and inventing new uses for cheese. Thanks for the advice.
