Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Yeah I almost never watch the VS intermission and postgame shows, since I can't stand Keith Jones, so I've never really heard Engblom talk about UW either. But it was nice he acknowledged it and was clearly proud last night.

Yeah the intermissions and pre and post games on versus are just terrible. I find it kinda ironic that all the versus announcers and broadcasters are surprised about the success of joe pavelski, if there network actually showed some western conference games besides detroit and Chicago or didn't spend all there time talking about Sidney Crosby, I think they may have already known he is a pretty clutch and all around player...

It would suck to have to listen to pierre MCguire on TSN but i really wish we could get TSN in the states, i'd much rather watch there broadcasts. What sucks is Canada gets ESPN in there cable and dish providers but the US can't get TSN..

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

He looks **** good too. He doesn't look a day over 30.

Well, he certainly looks in good health. I don't know that I can call that mullet "lookin' good." :D

Agreed. That's a lifetime ago and even Chelios was here forever ago when you look at all of the hockey he's experienced since then.

I think that the athletic department could do more to bring these guys back in also. Why not have these guys back and introduce them before a game?

The video montage that they created this year is a start, but why not honor the '81 team this year? Why not have a ring of honor or even a banner of honor? We have a tradition that is largely ignored other than saying that "We have a Tradition."

I'm sure there will be some sort of recognition of the '80-'81 team. They did have one night where they recognized the 1990 team this past season. It was early, they did it at one of the football games and then at the hockey game that night.

They also do invite alums back, the problem is that most of them tend to be playing hockey during the Wisconsin season. I seem to recall a few more stop by during the lockout. Burish has made a few trips up from Chicago when the schedule works out, but I think it's pretty hard for any of the guys who are still playing to get back to be honored during the season.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

I'm always in the middle of the fans yelling, "Stand up old people!"
*clap*clap*clapclapclap*

I'll continue until I AM an "Old People" yelling at the young ****s!!:D
A lot of the time Im tempted to go sit with the students because of the, "old people" who dont seem to understand that standing up and cheering is part of being at the game.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

I almost never stand up when they start that cheer...and I'm 27. The benefits of having front row seats. ;)

Im the exact opposite. Id probably stand up and cheer for most of the game if I werent worried about blocking other peoples' view.
Part of what makes the Kohl so great is how loud and engaged in the game the fans are.

any word on who is being interview for the vacant coaching positions outside of Norwich?

Anything on that Ryan Walters kid?

Pretty sure this weekend is the coaches convention in Florida which means an aweful lot of coaches in one hotel. I would think at the least Eaves is firming up his list of choices if not even doing a bit of interviewing.

Is there a timeframe in which the open job has to be posted before anyone can be hired in that UW is a state school? Obviously we knew Patrick was gone for a while, so the process of replacing him should be relatively close to the finishline. In the same regard, Oz leaving opens up a much broader pool of candidates then Patrick's job would as there are probably quite a few more guys that would be interested in being the lead assistant as opposed to the third fiddle.

On Walters, With Golo and Smith departing, it would seem logical that some money is now available to bring in another kid you might not have been able to.

No updates right now but man, I would have to think that UW would be all over this situation. We have 14 forwards lined up for this season and I just do not see us going into a season with 14 even though D-Playa said we might. It just doesn't make sense. The only possible reason would be that Eaves is trying to balance classes, which he has been trying to do since he's been here but you can't roll 14 at forward to start a season. Unless Eaves thinks one of his defensemen can play forward in a pinch? Drake...Springer? Ick.

Walters is a high end kid that would be a steal this late in the game. His options are extremely limited for the upcoming season and UW is one of the only schools with likely scholarship and roster space at forward for next season.

Wisconsin Hockey: Get. It. Done.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

thanks markwojo and chuck.

one would think there'd be quite a few applicants for both coaching positions given Eaves' track record of winning but also, and probably more important to aspiring coaches, his track record with his assistants becoming head guys within 3-4 years.

as for Walters, if they're not all over him right now it would be a shame, but given the coaches meetings and the fact we're down to Coach Eaves for now I wonder if he's getting any sleep at all talking with potential candidates and recruits...ugh

I'd have to look through the rosters to see if anyone else has any openings, but North Dakota is pretty stocked, so is Denver. Not sure about St Cloud or Duluth, but I agree about the 14 forwards issue. Jake Gardiner could play forward in a pinch, but I'd rather see that be an extreme fill in if 4 forwards were injured at one time.

Bring in Walters!!!

Pavs, 2g 1a
Heater, 3a
Rafalski, 2a

Pavs is the first player to have 3 straight multi goal games in the playoffs since Mario in 1992. Not a bad night for former Badgers. :)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

ESPN's starting to call him The Big Pavelski. I almost like that nickname better than The Polish Prince.
