Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Bummer. Smith was expected but not Goulobef. Is this partly to do with Oz leaving and feeling like the development would not be the same?

I think Goloubef was definitely expected to leave. This may very well have a lot more to do with the organization that holds his rights than anything else, but I don't think it really should be a surprise - it was certainly on the table before Oz left for OSU.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

As for coaches. What about Barry Richter? He just moved back to town after a successful pro career overseas.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

In addition to Goulobef, Columbus recently signed Jr. D-man Teddy Ruth from Notre Dame. He had in an injury plagued season for the Irish and surprised some by his signing since he is a pure defensive minded defenseman. Not sure if Ruth wanted to leave with the Irish's disappointing 09-10 season, or if CBUS wanted him in the system given that teams annual struggle to make the NHL playoffs.

Barry? Is that you?

Selling insurance sucks, doesn't it?

;)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Goulobef and Smith are gone.

That still leaves a rock solid D Corps. *indicates regular pairing player. I love the 5 * guys, then for sure one of the other 4 will be good enough to get into the 3 pairing rotation. Even if McD leaves, the bases are covered and then some.

*McD - Sr
*Johnson - Sr
*Gardiner - Jr
Little - Jr
Springer - Jr
*Schultz - So
*Rammer - So
Drake -Fr
Simonelli - Fr

I'm more concerned about the coaching than the players at this point.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Saw this over on MGoBlog:

http://www.letsplayhockey.com/CollegetoNHL0910.html

In fact, according to our research, 269 players who saw at least one regular season NHL game in 2009-10 honed their skills in college before making the leap to the professional ranks. That number represents nearly a third of all NHL players from the current season. In 2009-10, 40 former collegiate hockey players made their NHL debut.

...

Breaking down the 269 players by college sees the University of Michigan leads the way with 23 players, followed by Wisconsin (17), Boston College (16), Boston University (16), Minnesota (14) and North Dakota (14).

Nice.

Full list here:

Colorado and San Jose are the most college-friendly teams in the NHL, Phoenix is the worst this season.

Interesting to see the effects of the Minnesota Wild ownership/management change. This year they've had 11 collegians see the ice. 08-09? Three.

I hope not! Barry was a mediocre player. Chris Nelson was much better but writers like Baggot heaped praise on Barry to curry favor with Pat Richter.

Not to be a nitpicking ******* but Little is a So.

But I entirely agree. Even losing McD, I am still more worried about our coaching right now as well as replacing all of the scoring we have lost at forward. I mean it is nice to hope that our high end freshmen forwards coming in will produce high numbers but I am usually a wait and see type person in that regard.

I'm probably going to get ripped for saying this, but it seems like Barry gets a bad rap from Badger fans. He played on the World Jr. team two years and was a first team All-American. I really enjoyed watching him play and I guess I don't understand why people rail on him just because of who his Dad is.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

I loved Barry with the Badgers. He was a Madison kid, successful as a player and on successful teams, soft spoken good guy, but does that make him a good coach prospect? Nobody knows, but to make him an assistant coach in the WCHA as a first gig?

br941100, hmmmm. ;)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Will this bring in anybody early? I know these possibilities were talked about and we have very good players coming in, but are they enough?

Cawfee tawk....discuss.........

Given the numbers and the fact that some Dman departures were expected, I have to believe that UW will sit pat with what they have in the pipeline for next year. Forward is where a late recruit would be added.

please explain to me how good a player was relates to how good of a coach they will be. Wayne Gretzky must have been a great coach then.... I'd be more concerned about his coaching experience or lack there of then the type of player he was....

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

MCR, uw14 thinking they will be gone for sure only means they more than likely will be back. You as well as everyone else know he is never right. :D

yeah i guess i didn't know what i was talking about when i said he wasn't gonna be back....

To Anybody who follows the NHL this is not a surprise, CLB needs to get there prospects developed and in the lineup as soon as possible. Nash and Mason can't do it on there own...

This means that the best stay at home - shut down - Goalies wet Dream defenseman Craig Johnson will likely be in the lineup next season...
