Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!
My bad - I didn't realize I was in the *sshole Part 3 thread. Sorry to intrude - go back to your mutual masturbation now.
He's just warming the popcorn for the inevitable BTHC discussion...
I think it's a good point, however. Part of recruiting is selling the campus and the lifestyle, and Madison has a lot more in common with C-bus than it does with, say, Grand Forks.
Wasn't there a recruit a few years ago that really liked Eaves and the UW program, but chose NoDak instead and specifically cited the slower pace of life and the fact that Grand Forks is a smaller town? I want to say it was a Canadian kid who grew up in a smaller town and wasn't looking for a big campus lifestyle...
Anyway, it's a relevant point.
I have no idea who Eaves might be targeting for specific jobs, aside from a few big names like Shuchuk, Rohlik, etc. I think it's important that one of the assistants have some sort of tie to campus and the league, whether as an alum or having played in the WCHA or something. It's also crucial that one of them have some actual recruiting experience on the road.
It's a tough task for Eaves. It's not just finding one guy for each position, but finding two guys that fit together and compliment each other. Eaves has a good track record, however, of hiring good assistants. I'd also think that he had to know it was a possibility that he'd lose both Oz and Patrick in the near future, and he probably had a list of potential targets in mind in case that happens. It would be wise for any coach to have a list of potential replacements in mind.
