Also, don't forget about Team Wisconsin U-16 coach Gary Shuchuck. He's been rumored to have been interested/talked to about Kevin Patricks job as well.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

Assistant coach thought... Mike Richter.. Thoughts... think of the goaltending recruits... think of the influence... Its too great to think about.

I know Barry Alvarez doesn't even know who he is but i think it would be a great choice...

Just tell Barry Mike is Pat's brother, then he might listen. :D

Just wandered over from the Ohio State thread to see the discussion on coaches. What about Steve Brent from OSU if Oz doesn't keep him? He's not a WI guy, but was 3 time captain at OSU and has been recruiting for 10 years. Also, I would think as a Big 10 guy he would understand how to operate at WI.

Thoughts?

Sorry, was warming up the microwave. What did I miss?

Empty Upper Deck = FAIL

I agree with you that the spectacle was important and with your economic argument.

It may have been a success from a revenue standpoint, but the fact that it was not even close to capacity makes it a forgettable failure of an event, IMHO.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

(Sorry. Unfair, but I couldn't help myself.)

By reading a few of the osu posts i don't think some OSU fans realize what a great hire Oz really is for there program. He's got connections everywhere, he will turn that OSU blueline into one of the best blue lines in the country instead of what it is now. They will be better instantly, they may play more of a defensive style until he gets the right players in there but I wouldn't be surprised to see this team contend for an ncaa spot next season.

My bad - I didn't realize I was in the *sshole Part 3 thread. Sorry to intrude - go back to your mutual masturbation now.

He's just warming the popcorn for the inevitable BTHC discussion...

I think it's a good point, however. Part of recruiting is selling the campus and the lifestyle, and Madison has a lot more in common with C-bus than it does with, say, Grand Forks.

Wasn't there a recruit a few years ago that really liked Eaves and the UW program, but chose NoDak instead and specifically cited the slower pace of life and the fact that Grand Forks is a smaller town? I want to say it was a Canadian kid who grew up in a smaller town and wasn't looking for a big campus lifestyle...

Anyway, it's a relevant point.

I have no idea who Eaves might be targeting for specific jobs, aside from a few big names like Shuchuk, Rohlik, etc. I think it's important that one of the assistants have some sort of tie to campus and the league, whether as an alum or having played in the WCHA or something. It's also crucial that one of them have some actual recruiting experience on the road.

It's a tough task for Eaves. It's not just finding one guy for each position, but finding two guys that fit together and compliment each other. Eaves has a good track record, however, of hiring good assistants. I'd also think that he had to know it was a possibility that he'd lose both Oz and Patrick in the near future, and he probably had a list of potential targets in mind in case that happens. It would be wise for any coach to have a list of potential replacements in mind.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

I was really hoping for Rohlik, but Baggott thinks Oz will contact him about a job @ OSU, which would suck for WI's sake.

The killer thing with Oz leaving is the recruiting. Finding someone who wants to travel that much and be away from their family that much, who has the right pedigree, eye for talent and fit with Eaves is going to be hard. They have to have the contacts to keep the Canadian pipeline going, love those Canuck kids. This is a make or break hire for Eaves.

I also have a feeling that the odds of Goulebef, Gardiner and Schultz leaving just increased 50% with their position coach leaving. I didn't count Smith or McD in the mix because they probably were leaving before this happened, though McD seems to be less certain.

I hate uncertainty.

If he was any good at recruiting, wouldn't his old boss still have his job and Oz still be @ WI?

Only if you believe that a team with great talent can win championships without a great head coach. Remember that development once the recruit arrives is just as important as getting the raw talent to begin with.

Just think how good minnesota could be if Don Lucia didn't **** away all that talent every season.

Just dreaming but how about stealing someone from Gwozdecky's staff. Steve Miller has been with him for 19 years but he is a Wisconsin guy from Sun Prairie. Actually I'm suprised that he hasn't moved on to a head coach somewhere.

How about Gwoz himself? With Scotty Owens as the other. ;)
