Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 3: Just win, baby!

ESPN's starting to call him The Big Pavelski. I almost like that nickname better than The Polish Prince.

"Say what you will about the tenets of rooting for the Sharks, Dude, but at least its an ethos"

You're Pavelski, Pavelski. Your wife owes money to Jackie Treehorn, that means you owe money to Jackie Treehorn.

No updates right now but man, I would have to think that UW would be all over this situation. We have 14 forwards lined up for this season and I just do not see us going into a season with 14 even though D-Playa said we might. It just doesn't make sense. The only possible reason would be that Eaves is trying to balance classes, which he has been trying to do since he's been here but you can't roll 14 at forward to start a season. Unless Eaves thinks one of his defensemen can play forward in a pinch? Drake...Springer? Ick.

Walters is a high end kid that would be a steal this late in the game. His options are extremely limited for the upcoming season and UW is one of the only schools with likely scholarship and roster space at forward for next season.

Wisconsin Hockey: Get. It. Done.

Walters seems to be a no-brainer as far as offering a scholarship to, unless other players were told if guys left early they would get a hunk of $. But then there's still Thurber's $ floating out there as well. In fact, when taking into account Thurber was in the long range plans and would have been the 15th F, wouldn't sliding Walters into Thurber's spot make a whole ton of sense? They seem to have very similar skills sets as well.

And what better way to get revenge on the rodents than to sign with their biggest rival? Not to mention play for the Glorious and Storied Cardinal and White?

2. "Jumbo" Joe Thornton had his finest game of the postseason, a real strong effort in Sunday's win, including the game-winning goal. He was a physical force and a threat every time he was on the ice. Imagine how deadly this Sharks team will be if the top line of Thornton, Dany Heatley and Patrick Marleau (which had its best game as a group Sunday night) gets hot while the second line of Joe Pavelski between Devin Setoguchi and Ryane Clowe stays as productive as it's been. Ah, yes ... you didn't think we could have a Five Things blog without a mention of The Big Pavelski, right? He was at it again Sunday night, collecting two goals and an assist to the take NHL lead with nine playoffs goals. When Rob Blake retires, it says here No. 8 should get the "C."

Blackhawk playoff record with Burish in the lineup 4-0, without 1-3.

On Thursday, May 6, the Hobey Baker Memorial Award Committee will hold its annual banquet at 317 on Rice Park, St. Paul, Minn. A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the banquet will follow at 7 p.m. The banquet will honor University of Wisconsin forward Blake Geoffrion, the 2010 recipient of the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, and legendary University of New Hampshire coach, Charlie Holt, the 2010 Hobey Baker Legend of College Hockey.

Blake Geoffrion won the 30th annual Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's top player while helping his Wisconsin Badgers to the NCAA national championship game. A fan favorite, the always jovial Geoffrion finished the season third in the nation in goal scoring with 28 in 40 games. He led all scorers in the country with 15 power play goals. Geoffrion was second in the WCHA conference in points, was named a First Team WCHA all-star, was the NCAA West Regional MVP, a west All-American and became the first Badger to win the Hobey. He recently signed a pro contract with Nashville and potted two goals in his pro debut with Milwaukee of the AHL. The family bloodlines of Geoffrion are incomparable. His dad Danny, granddad Bernie "Boom Boom" and his great grandpa Howie Morenz all played for the Montreal Canadiens. Boom Boom is credited with popularizing the slapshot and along with Howie, the two won a combined nine Stanley Cups and both had their numbers retired. Geoffrion will also throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Friday's Twins game vs Baltimore.
The banquet will feature two of college hockey's top coaches: Mike Eaves of Wisconsin and Dick Umile of New Hampshire as guest speakers.

Gary Shuuuuuchuck on the "On Wisconsin" radio show when BP asked him about coaching, "I officially put my name in the hat...."

I kind of figured he would, but I've been gone for a few days and this is the first I heard about it; anybody else?

Nice.

“He’s been good,” Babcock said this morning. “My wife actually mentioned it to me yesterday -- I was driving the kids around, and when we got back, my wife said to me, ‘Where’s that Pavelski from?’ And I said, ‘Why?’ ‘Well, he’s a stud.’ And I said, ‘Well, he played at Wisconsin -- thanks for the tip.’”
