Sauer mentioned later that he still, to this day, has not watched the tape from that game.

Wisconsin's long NCAA title drought that followed certainly added to the infamy about that game - as well as Wisconsin's failures in Albany. It wasn't until Mike Eaves won a game there against Ohio State in the NCAAs (IIRC) that UW won a game again in that arena since the 92 Frozen Four.

Looking back at it, those UW teams from about 88 to 95 or so were pretty **** good across the board. They really ought to have come away with more than one title.

Remember, that 92 team was a 6 seed - one of the last two teams in the tournament - but was on an absolute tear in the NCAAs up to the championship game. They breezed through the region, defeating the #3, #2, and #1 seeds - 4-2 over UNH, 5-2 over St Lawrence, and 4-2 over Michigan.

totally agree about 88 to 94-95... I mean Steve Tuttle, Tony Granato, Ranheim, CUJO, and about 20-25 other guys over those years....just incredible they didn't win more than 1 title in that span of time....well then there is the caveat the 92-95 crew who wanted to play with 5 pucks out there so...

During those final years under Sour, nobody knew how to pass or shoot from the pass. They all stopped the puck with their skates, then shot. It was actually a pleasure when Minnesota or NoDak came to town so I could see real passing and plays being set up; not dump-and-chase.

Congrats to KP, the Eaves coaching tree expands!

So, who does Eaves bring in for the 3rd coach?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

Nick Licari: He's pretty big. For a Hobbit.

The ironic thing about Licari: he probably had a bigger heart than anyone else on that '06 team. Not much talent, but man did he ever play with passion.

Fourth line on that 06 team brought a lot of energy.

That is EXACTLY what we need!
Coach O teaches the players how to sacrifice their bodies to block shots.
Nick could teach Paddy Johnson how to play with more intensity and heart.

My enduring memory of the Cornell game is Nick crushing their guys who had a foot on him over and over. It seemed like they would look at him afterwards like "How the heck did you do me like that?"

He might get comfortable, take a nap...

Or just as likely, take a dump on it and tell the parents that that is what he thinks of their kid's prospects if he signs with the Gophers or Sioux over us.

Hey now.

Our thread is coming towards the end so I hope that some of you put on your thinking caps and come up with a good title before someone else beats you to it.

You got to be ready when it's time.
