Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

Really? This is your reasoning? Maybe you should pay attention to the selection process. Then you might understand the cause for Wisconsin not to be in the West Regional. (I'll give you a hint: no one school is responsible, and UMD is almost a non-player in the issue.)

A. Sunday's game isn't in St. Paul.
B. Pretty sure they'll be playing in St. Paul next weekend.

From what I have been told the University of Minnesota will get a word in who comes to Minneapolis in two weeks. Please don't kid yourself into believing otherwise. I doubt Wisconsin comes to Minneapolis for the NCAA's. Granted I have been wrong before but I have a good feeling UMD or SCSU make the bus trip to Minneapolis before Wisconsin.;)

Here we go again, with the inordinate claims of Minnesota influence. They might have a say, given the economic relationship between the NCAA and the host sites, but the selection committee hasn't historically really given a rat's *** as to who the host site wants.

I doubt Wisconsin comes to Minneapolis for the NCAA's.

I doubt anyone is in Minneapolis for the regional.

Granted I have been wrong before but I have a good feeling UMD or SCSU make the bus trip to Minneapolis before Wisconsin.;)

I did too--I just knew why, though. Unless the positioning shifts, there will be a lot of flexibility on the part of the selection committee. If the predicted seeding of a BSU-UMD first-round game holds (as it was before tonight's games,) that is the cause of that. SCSU would be a bonus school.

However, given the PairWise as of this moment, there would be no UMD, and BSU and SCSU would be in the same regional. Given the three-way tie for SCSU's spot, Wisconsin could be the 1 seed in St. Paul, sending BSU east, with the flexibility for SCSU to be the 2 seed. Do I think this will be the case? Not necessarily, but this is all tilting at windmills until the conference tournaments are over.

Earth to UW BadgerHockey. Where are you? Do you know the school who started cheerleading?

That is right the University of Minnesota started organized cheering. Back in 1898 Thomas Peebles and his croonies started all the cheers you all hate. How can that be less creative? They were the FIRST school to do it. Every other school in the nation copied the University of Minnesota organized cheering.
:D

So it's all your fault we have cheerleading championships? ;)
Rah rah ree kick him in the knee.
Rah rah rass kick him in the other knee. :D

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

Didn't see the game tonight because we have a NHL team called the Wild playing in Edmonton on FSN. Obviously you will never be able to watch a local NHL team in Wisconsin but that is okay you have the BADgers instead.
Id rathar watch the Badgers than the Wild, at least the Badgers win. Have the Wild managed to get their record above .500 yet? :D
Its kind of funny the the, "state of hockey" cant even manage to put a winning team on the ice.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

Sure, the North Stars left but Minnesotans got fed up with supporting a losing franchise with only 4 winning seasons in 23 years.
So you guys support the Wild instead. Boy, now theres a winning franchise. They have made the playoffs what, like, once since their inception.
One thing you convieniently forget is that it was a Wisconsin businessman and his money who brought hockey back to Minnesota. "The state of hockey" and Minnesotans had little to do with it.

I like how they say that the team sucked, then the Stars move to Dallas and win the Stanley Cup. I think it was the surroundings not the team.

Shhhh. They don't teach Geography up der in da Nort. Leave him alone. :D

Unlike Wisconsin and your home state we play the game of ice hockey as it is known in that part of the country. The State of Hockey supports more programs than any where else in the country. We support every level from the grassroots all the way up to the NHL. Sure, the North Stars left but Minnesotans got fed up with supporting a losing franchise with only 4 winning seasons in 23 years. Besides plenty of losing there were other reasons why the club left. The sex scandal had something to do with it and Wolves not wanting to share their arena.

Yes. Thank you for feeding our hockey program with recruits. Should I send you flowers in gratuity?

So you're off the bandwagon and onto another. That's SO out of character for a Minnesota fan.

Actually, I grew up in Chicago and my Hawks crushed the Canucks tonight. How'd the North Stars do tonight? Oh yeah, that's right.

Ahh. That explains a lot. So you're probably a Cubs fan too. Barf.

Barry wanting hockey alum to pitch in and row the boat is crazy. WI has had great success in having guys play at the NHL level, but even so, if 1 to 2 guys a year makes it to the bigs, most of them aren't going to make a ton of money. A few are/will like Heater, but 99% of UW hockey alum aren't in the NHL, they are out of hockey with regular jobs, kids to put through college ect. Guys like Hussey, Snedden, Toumie, Daveyduke, Kuk, Nelson (you know the names) aren't going to be able to foot the bill for this. Other guys toiling in the ECHL or Europe and places like that don't make crap for money. It's for the love of the game they are atill trying to make it work. Barry probably has enough money coming to him in pay, benefits and retirement funds he could pay for the whole **** thing himself. Arshole. Arswipe.

And from a practicle standpoint, now is the time to build. I work in the commercial construction world. Prices are down 10-20% on building supplies with everyone so desperate for work. I was marking up projects 18% 2 years ago and we had a huge backlog. Now I am marking up projects 8% and I'm getting slaughtered and have very little backlog. If they wait and build in 2 years, they'll add at least 15% to the cost of the project vs if they broke ground today, assuming the economy improves, which I think it is to a certain extent from what I'm seeing. So this delay is going to cost them more money in the long run. :(

Hockey makes money for UW, and building this facility is protecting the long term health of the program.

This is ****ed up on many fronts. Barry is the village idoit.

Rene Bourque just signed a pretty fat contract. I still agree with the premise of your argument, though.

So you guys support the Wild instead. Boy, now theres a winning franchise. They have made the playoffs what, like, once since their inception.

Doesn't the Wild have Robbie Earl? In that case, not all is bad with them. :D

Someone hide the children, UAA is coming to town for the first round.

Exactly. Anyone who teaches their kid to be a Minnesota fan should be charged with child abuse because thats basically teaching your kid that its OK to be a loser.
Thats why Im happy that they have the whole, "state of hockey" thing. At least then Minnesotans have SOMETHING that they can be proud of in sports. They really have nothing else. Its quite sad really...

I hope today is specifically in the interest of not getting one Scott Gudmandson injured. Please, no more Bennett this year.

Amen to that. I get nervous every time Bennett is at goal.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

The team flat out sucked today. there is nothing else to say but that. that was awful hockey. teams that win championships don't take 60minute coffee breaks during the season. and now on the stretch run.

This one has to be pinned on the leaders on-ice and on the bench. I just don't fu**ing get it.

they better hope to win in 2 games next weekend.

and someone call the goalie coach....is he around? anyone? hello? stop the puck....

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

An unacceptable end to the regular season. While it was probably a done deal by now, at least there is no more question who'll be in goal for the playoffs. Don't know what else to say, but I hope that they get this game behind them and move on to bigger and better things.

I don't care that this game didn't mean anything in the standings, you're still playing the Gophers and there should be a better effort than that.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

I'd settle for not starting him randomly (after he has given no reason whatsoever to consider it lately) when things are going pretty well without him.

I'm honestly not too worried about it, there should be no way Eaves even considers him the rest of the year.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Part 2 - No Silly Eaves-isms, Just Win The Title!

I didn't really pay attention to the last two goals but I don't really think this is a loss to blame on Bennett. The first goal is on Johnson and the others were tips where our defensemen were content to let Gophers stand right on top of Bennett and get rid of any possible chance he had to see the puck. However, I do think we need to stop playing him because regardless of how he plays, the team seems to crumble around him.

You wouldn't think he'd have been back lately at all after he let who knows how many unscreened wristers blast back into the slot off of his chest in how many other games, but then there he was again how many times.

But I agree with you at this point.
