Wisconsin Hockey 24-25 Improving With All Due Haste.

I need to correct, it's not a five game win streak, it's winning five of the last six games.
I'm not making any claim we're a dominate team, only that our coach who's a Badger himself gets the job done when we play you.

This has the potential to be a very long year. Ohio St. was picked last. Hastings is going to have to coach them up or it could be his first losing season. Next weekend in Denver has all the makings of a bloodbath.

Yeah I knew offense would struggle but these easy goals they have given up is definitely concerning.

Listening to the post game with Hastings, I think he expressed as much displeasure as he would in a public interview. Something to the effect that they will have tomorrow off because they have to, and get back at it Monday. He also said the 5 on the ice are not connecting with each other and they are only getting 1 and done opportunities. Finally, giving up the easy goals early in the period cannot become part of their DNA.

The bright spot this weekend is a women's sweep at Minnesota. Going down 3-0 today and storming back with 4 to win it.

That was awesome. The ladies are DAMN good but can't be perfect every game. A great team does what they did - bury the goofs in the 3rd.
Regarding the men, is it too early to panic?

Some of us were already panicking when all of our point producers left this offseason… Looks like I was right to feel the way I did. Sure wish I wasn’t right though…

This team looks stunningly like the team that ended last season with all those "point producers".

Disagree.
Starting in the Big Ten tournament last year, they scored 1, 4, 1, 2 goals. And that's after a full season of playing together. You'd expect some lack of cohesion to start this season (but not as bad as we've seen). You can split hairs if you want, but I don't see a significant difference in the last few games of last year and the first few this year.

What's your point?

The team right now is not markedly different without the 'point producers' that left than the team right now without them. Maybe a difference will be born out over the season, but the first four games of this season are awfully similar to the last four of last season. It's like they picked up right where they left off. If I knew why, I'd be making Hastings' money. Given Hastings' career track record I think he may well know why and hinted at it in the post game. He said he would have had them on the ice this AM if the rules allowed it. There's something not right and it crept in as the season progressed and it's still present now.

I think this is one of those seasons where there will be gradual progress as the season wears on. I was expecting a similar process last season and was stunned at how good they were early. If Hastings manages to get 20 victories from this crew with the start they’ve had he should be coach of the year.

I’m definitely disappointed but nowhere close to panic mode. I trust Hastings - he will get it figured out.

Don't like to see Wisconsin struggling to open the season. Giving up goals early and late in the period is not going to sit well with the coaching staff. Bag skate Monday? Maybe fans were mislead by recruiting class/pre-season poll ratings and expectations shouldn't be that high. Hopefully it turns around as based on USCHO box scores the fans have returned or at least ticket sales have improved.

This week: At Denver Fri 10/25 8 pm (NCHCtv), Sat 10/26 7 pm (NCHCtv)

Next week: At Notre Dame Fri 11/1 6 pm (Peacock?), Sat 11/2 5 pm (Peacock?)

Awful start and can only go up from here. If they play like the first four games, they likely get rolled and swept at Denver. If they end up 1-5 after Denver, getting back to the NCAA's again is a huge question mark. And if things really go off the rails (and the Big7 is likely really good), forget about NCAA's and Hastings has a hard time keeping his winning season streak alive.

Attendance was not too bad again with average of 9,377 paid per game thru 4 games. We are 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] on attendance to NoDak. RIT shows 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] at 10,566 per game with a capacity of 4,300, so there must be an error there.

Wonder if we see some guys pushed down the lineup due to their play so far. I’ve got a few in mind. Tassy being healthy would also be a huge help.

Hastings used the term “buy-in” describing one of the issues on offense. Interesting…
His post game interview and these comments suggests there are deeper issues than just the level of offensive talent. Where did you here this said?

This is what I was afraid of. We know (or can infer) it can’t be Mankato players or recruits that aren’t buying in or they wouldn’t have followed Hastings over.

I’ll look up the quote, I *think* it was in badgernation.

I'm not going to indict the Granato regime with the culture that developed; I have absolutely no idea. It may be a fair theory to propose the culture Hastings is instituting is quite different and is ruffling feathers.
