Wisconsin Hockey 24-25 Improving With All Due Haste.

If you look down the stat sheet, they did a lot of good things.

Outshot them 36-19
Outshot attempted them 77-32
Took fewer penalties
Won 34 of 51 faceoffs (66.67%)

They just need some scoring touch and some better goaltending.

These are must-win games. We can only hope it was an anomaly.

4 goals given up on 19 shots against is not going to cut it. I would not be surprised to see Gramme in net tomorrow.

Gramme should be the starter. Scarfone didn’t face tough competition with RIT. He’s in a big-boy league now and he looked weak against a nothingburger opponent.

denver will be a real eye opener for this kid if he plays against them.

Could have been just a bad game. It's important to go with the hot hand in net though. We shall see in a few hours!

The processes are in place for this team to be successful. Just need to execute.

Next day thoughts:

-Gramme looked pretty solid. Can’t really blame either goal on him.
-Power play needs to be better. 1/8 is not good. Is just me or did it feel like our players were always on their backhand? I know they want the guys in spots for one timers, but it sure seemed like they were turned around a lot of the time.
-Passing is off. Could be a chemistry issue with all of the new players. Felt like players were hesitant to make easy passes too.
-There were several times where one of our players made an ill advised pinch or a questionable play that resulted in an odd man rush (breakaway/2-on-1). They have to clean this up and make smarter plays.

Well, I won’t tune in tomorrow. What a garbage loss.

this Mickey Mouse team Lindenwood would NEVER be able to do this at Denver, Nodak, Minnesota.

but Wisconsin? Well,…I try to be optimistic a d I like Hastings but the constant losing since Eaves’s final 2 seasons has worn me out. 3 good seasons in 10 years.

Jeez, we made the ncaa's last year. Way to give up on the boys. It's a marathon, not a race. One loss wipes out all the positives we saw out of a Hastings coached team?

I am not giving up. 12 new players, 8 of which are freshman, 4 transfers. That's basically half the team. And lots of scoring graduated or transferred.

It's going to take some time to gel. I knew scoring was going to be a concern and still is obviously. Power play has to get better.

I wish they were more physical and finished more checks. Need big improvement versus Ohio State and then on to Denver.

This week: Ohio State at Kohl Center Fri 10/18 7 pm (BTN+?), Sat 10/19 6 pm (BTN+)

Next week: At Denver Fri 10/25 8 pm (NCHCtv), Sat 10/26 7 pm (NCHCtv)

Not a great start to the year to say the least. However, attendance was not too bad with 8,197 paid per game (not that many there however). They said on the radio they are up like 1,000 additional season tickets over last year (both Friday and Saturday combined). If the team plays well, we should see better attendance again this year.

Not giving up, but damn sick of this losing to teams they should be smoking. Having 7 terrible seasons in 10 years has me pissed off still.

they barely salvaged a win Saturday agains a team they should have beaten 7-1.

like I said earlier, I like Hastings and think he’s the right guy for the job but I have 0 patience for the crap I saw this weekend. The cupboard was bare for Fickell/Longo/Tressel and I think they deserve 4 full seasons to rebuild. Hastings, however, had a full cupboard. I want to see Wisconsin play like the blue blood they are supposed to be. Coming out on fire and smoking teams like this.

All those “me first” players left, remember?

I’d like to see Hensler and a few others play better in the defensive own zone. Bobbled pucks a number of times and took too long to make decisions. The book is out on the badger defense: pressure them early and often and they will make mistakes. It was the same thing last year in the second half.

The defense should be carrying this team while the forwards learn to play together. Shots against were low, but a lot of goals given up were due to stupid mistakes and bad decisions.

I expect much better play this weekend. Learn to pass the puck and play as a unit.

Pretty good weekend for ex-Badgers:

Zach Urdahl with a couple of goals and Sam Stange scored as well as Omaha wins a pair.

Charlie Stramel scores twice for Michigan State Saturday night as they earn a split with BC.

I think the D are being asked to move the puck into the offensive zone due to lack of scoring punch from the forwards. That was mentioned by Todd M or Brian P in some of the articles I read. That could result is more turnovers. We will see if there are any changes this weekend. I think they will improve quickly and need too with the next two weekends.

I also keep getting emails to upgrade my seats to the new seating along the boards. I did talk to a rep from the AD, and it is costly. Apparently, they aren't selling them all for the low price of $1,750 / seat / year.
