Wisconsin Hockey 23-24: Hastily Making Wisconsin Hockey Great Again

Who scored the PP goal that got waved off?

Dsp during the first 5 minute major. Heck of a shot.

I hope Lindmark isn't hurt too badly as he's a beast on those face offs. It was sad though that on the first goal if he skates and doesn't glide following his man he can stop that for goal from happening. A pretty lazy effort there.

A common theme over these past 5 games has been poor defensive coverage whether it be losing someone in our zone (backdoor especially) or giving up odd man rushes.

UW won last night but there were at least 3 different 3 on 1s given up while UW was on the PP. That cannot happen - a better opponent buries at least one of those.

Hope UW figures this out.

On the bright side... good to get a win and these games will be more comfortable when UW starts burying more of its chances.

New recruit for Bucky……playing pretty well in Lincoln in his first year in the USHL and has a big frame:

Looks like a promising power forward goal scorer.

We haven't landed any blue chip forward says Hastings and Knott came to town. Im a little disappointed, since we could use one or two more play makers like Lucius. But they have a track record of winning so I'm sure they know what they're doing.

To be completely fair to the coaching staff, most of the high end recruits for this cycle (and the next) had signed 1-2 years ago. What hurt Bucky is they lost a few high end recruits when Granato left - Fink to PedSt, Skahan to BC, Buckberger to DU.

I do consider Silye, Fitzgerald, and Tassy “recruits” and I’ll take those three over any unproven freshman - Fink appears to be a stud, though.

Looks like Brady Cleveland continues to sit. He was listed as the extra defenseman in the box score from last night so I’m assuming he’s healthy??

He was a little shaky with the puck last night. He probably needs some seasoning.

I don't think I understand the rules of hockey anymore. Guys getting kicked out of games for a glove tap or inadvertant stick to the face? That is too much in my book. ND plays dirty but those majors they received should be two minutes in the box. Hard hits to the head and checking from behind I get.

Wasn’t the five minute call at the end of the game a cross check to our guy’s head? I didn’t get to see a replay at the game.

So Brady played this weekend? He wasn’t listed in the D line pairings for either night.

The son of a really good Badger fullback, Mark Montgomery from the 1993 rose bowl team!

I didn’t realize that - good genes!!

Got another commit yesterday - defenseman Mason Peapenburg who plays for the Chippewa Steel in the NAHL. Played at GB Norte Dame in high school - coach compares him to current Badger, Daniel Laatsch. Big frame (6’3” 185lbs) and appears to be a stay at home defender. Looks like he may play with Des Moines in the USHL next year - appears that he had a cup of coffee with them this season.

Yes. Absolutely two handed chopper to the face mask.

I was shocked the boarding call on Friday night didn't get an additional game off. It was a brutal hit and one of the worst ones I have seen in a long time. It's the Kris Draper, Detroit vs Colorado hit from many many years ago and the face mask saved him from getting seriously hurt.

Comments from the weekend.
  1. Bischel is a punk goalie. Hitting, hooking, and generally a jack wagon. The charging call on Bantle on Saturday was awful as it should have been on Bischel. The allowed goal with our guy (Mehlenbacher?) in their net was perfect karma. My buddy on Saturday said someone needs to run him. I saw him doing this on Friday pulling this crap, while my buddy only saw Saturday live.
  2. Notre Dame is shady. Clutching, grabbing, etc. Three 5-minute majors, 2 by Henry POS Nelson (who had 34 penalty minutes alone this weekend).
  3. And it all starts with their coach Jeff Jackson. After shaking hands quickly with Hastings Saturday, him and his staff left the ice and didn't shake hands with Badger players while Hastings went thru the line and shook hands with each ND player.
  4. Ref with no mask, number 17 must hate Tassy and the Badgers. Tassy was roughed up all weekend and didn't draw any penalties. Multiple badgers were dumped after the whistle and never got any calls. To be a little fair, Tassy is an agitator and he as well as Horbach rarely get any calls.
  5. Bantle was tough and nasty all weekend. He finished checks and got under the skin of ND. He was definitely fired up and he was yelling at ND after getting the e/n goal on Friday.
  6. The linesmen were ridiculous all weekend. It's not about you clowns. Drop the puck.
  7. Speaking of the faceoff circle, this had to be one of our worst weekends. Losing Lindmark didn't help. Hopefully, he isn't hurt too bad. He's having a fantastic year.
I have come to hate them more than just about any other team (reminds me of the Hack-stol Nodak days). Contrast this weekends WW3, as Ian Perrin described it on the radio driving home, to the super clean play the week before with Minnesota. The Badgers, to their credit, didn't let ND get under their skin and take retaliatory penalties.

Sweeping the season series feels really good, even though our rocky play especially defensively and special teams needs to be cleaned up quickly, as we will get destroyed by Michigan, MSU and Minnesota later this year.

  1. Bishel definitely needed to get run. Had the score been 6-3 late in the 3rd, he should have got it. Hard. The penalty against Bantle was a complete fantasy call. Sometimes LOL they let stuff go, or er cough, don't "see" something, but to make a call out of thin air like that was egregious. WTF.

Obviously I have a grudge against Jackson going back to his LSSU days, but he's gotten worse the older he has gotten. MSU and UW have jumped them and he can't handle it.

Simon better be careful, I'd hate to see a sassy mouth end up getting into a physical penalty situation in a crucial elimination game.
