Wisconsin Badgers Off-Season '13

Re: Wisconsin Badgers Off-Season '13

Back to the topic about charging to get into the exhibition game and donating the money. I received an email that said the athletic department policy is that they do not charge for exhibition games. Last time I checked the football spring game was an exhibition and that costs 5 dollars to get in with the money being donated.

Same with the men's games against the NTDP, and men's basketball against D-III schools. Maybe it's exhibitions excluding football/men's basketball/men's hockey?

Congratulations to 2014-2015 Badger recruits Maddie Rolfes (Shattuck St. Mary's), Taylar Cianfirano (NSA), and Baylee Wellhausen (Shattuck St. Mary's) in being named to the USA U-18 Team! Three players very deserving of the honor to wear red, white, and blue after a tough week of try-outs! The team will play the annual 3 game series against Canada this weekend in Lake Placid, NY. Good luck girls! All Badger fans are proud of you!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers Off-Season '13

Times finalized for the Minnesota at Wisconsin series in February:

- Friday, February 14 at 7 p.m.
- Saturday, February 15 at 3 p.m.

Good to know! Hopefully they don't sell out prior to game day. (That felt weird to type...)

I realize that women's hockey is included in the Red Card so you feel like you've already paid for them, but most of second semester home games (North Dakota, UMD and Minnesota) will probably be sold out in advance. With the relatively small capacity of LaBahn, this is going to continue to be an issue for the rivalry games.

I would recommend buying tickets ($2 for students, I think) in advance for any of those big games you know you want to go to.

Exactly 1 month away til live hockey....pretty cool.

So on the sellouts, do season tickets gain access or not?

I'm not expecting anything, but I'll probably ask someone in the athletic department if there's some way to ensure I get in without just buying a bunch of tickets in advance (not that it's much, even with processing fees). I got to the Sunday Minnesota game when a friend found someone on Craigslist, and UMD tix were courtesy of someone on this board.

I'll figure it out (probably buying extra). :p

For the non sellouts there are some pretty open sections with only a few people sitting in them. Would like to see some more deals for students to fill the place up on those non rivalry game days.

It can't be cost (at least ticket-wise). Women's hockey is part of the Red Card or individual tickets are only $2 for students. Even a couple hundred students, centrally located, would make for a loud atmosphere. Would help if the band made more regular appearances. Makes the games seem more big-time.

More frequent band appearances would be great.

Students...I've been to a few games were 4-5 students stand on the zamboni end of the rink and do their thing, which helps get the crowd going.

I'm one of those students. If you ever want to join us, you're more than welcome (we're not all really students, anyway). Standing is healthier! A few volleyball players I recognized have showed up several times, and I've recognized band members and football players at least once, and I've seen a few students I know from the men's games, so those are all students who have shown up. (They sat in random other places.)

So some students do show up, but there's nothing really organized, unlike volleyball games.

There was technically a "student night" on the schedule, but it sold out anyway.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers Off-Season '13

I think it would be awesome if Wisconsin women's hockey games could have an atmosphere similar to what RIT men's games have now, making the most of a small capacity arena.

There was one night there were 3 guys up there and they were just awesome, we got a big kick out of it. I might just do that, though the kids like to sit right behind the goal and pound on the glass. I think that is a bad spot to sit because our cheering/taunting just hits the glass and doesn't echo into the building like being up high. I like to sit center ice. I'm looking forward to taunting the Japs, within all the proper confines of being politically correct of course. ;)

Re: Wisconsin Badgers Off-Season '13

We usually sit just to the side of one center ice, right against one of the poles, but we always sing and dance. Invariably we're the only ones around us Sieve-ing and what not, but sometimes we inspire others and I've often taught other folks what's going on.

We buy season tickets, but are in Milwaukee, so only get to about half a dozen games. I will give away whatever tickets I can, especially to games I know will sell out. I think maybe I gave to WiscDC last year.

A big problem is that even for the games that are sold out there are some sections with only a few people sitting in them!

With tickets as cheap as they are, there are a lot of people who buy seasons but only get to a fraction of the games. I'd really like to see them do some sort of "standing room" ticket where they oversell the rink. Its just sad to see people being turned away for a "sold out" game in a rink that's not even 3/4 full. Some of those turned away fans are never going to come back. I haven't seen anything to suggest they've come up with a solution for that this year.

It's a bit of a relief that you're not still students. I've been seeing the same guys down there for at least 6 years now, and I'd hope at least some of you graduated! :)

I like sitting on the end boards, and depending upon the opponent, I often switch sides between periods to be on the Badgers end of the ice. I think in Duluth for the F4, we were some of the only other people to actually sit in the bleachers.

This could continue to be a big issue. If not against some code or ordinance, they should try to oversell official capacity or hold a certain amount of tickets available only at LaBahn 60 minutes prior to face-off.

While students get in with their Red Card, if the game is sold out in advance, the Red Card is invalid. Not exactly a great way to increase student attendance.

Hopefully, there are some better answers this year. All the second semester home games look to be rivalry games, so sellouts are likely.
