Wisconsin Badgers Off-Season '13

Re: Wisconsin Badgers Off-Season '13

Two Badgers earn invites to Canadian National Women's Development camp

Seeing Badgers in the Olympics is great, but as an American and Team USA fan, it would be kind of annoying to lose players for the NCAA season so they can play for the enemy to the North!

I think you're misreading the press release. This roster is just for their development camp & a three game series with the 27 players already selected to compete for a spot on their Olympic team in late August.

Based on evaluations and performances at Canada’s National Women’s Development Team selection camp, Hockey Canada will choose 13 development team players to join the 27 senior team players who will centralize with Canada’s National Women’s Team in Calgary for training to prepare for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. The 40 players will be split into Red and White teams, which will compete against each other in a three-game series set for Aug. 19-24 at the Markin MacPhail Centre.

Pretty sure you don't have to worry about losing Channell or Zgraja. If they were in contention, they'd already be part of the 27.

Thanks for correcting me!

Instead of free admission for the first game against the Japanese team. I would like to see something like a 1 dollar admission with the money going towards local youth hockey.

I'd be in favor of that.

I'll second the motion, all in favor say Aye.

In both venues, I'm hoping for the quality and selection of food/beverages to get better. I assume the general pricing will remain about the same. The one nice thing of the team playing out in Verona for the playoffs was the high-school pricing of concessions.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers Off-Season '13

Well, the schedule has some game times down, at least thru November. The times work out where I could possibly attend the first 8 games, pretty cool. I like the Friday @ 7 times, but it does conflict me with watching HS football games in person. It's kind of a bummer they only play 2 games all of December.

I wonder why that Saturday game against SCSU is a 3:00 start. 2 games (in any location) in December is very, very strange.

I'm disappointed that there's a conflict with volleyball on Friday, October 18 against SCSU, but other than that, I'm kind of glad the first half is more October-heavy, as men's basketball and hockey will have some more games later in November and December (although there are no hockey home games between the first weekend of November and December).

Not sure if a coincidence or not, but the Badger football team plays at Illinois that night. Personally, I'm glad I can go to the women's game and then watch the football game that night.

Historically, they don't play many games in December. At most they play the first two weekends, but that's it prior to semester break. The problem is that they only play two games in November. So only 4 homes games in a 60+ day time span. What other UW team gets dealt that kind of schedule?

One big positive is that there are no 2:00 Friday games scheduled yet. I hate those more than anything else. I can't remember the last time they haven't played more than at least 3 of those games.

Curious when the UW is actually going to get around to updating the team roster.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers Off-Season '13

I wonder if they've come up with a plan for sellouts. Even if everyone in standing areas found a seat, there was plenty of room at some of those (especially when you imagine one person over every little number on the bleachers). I don't like the risk of not being able to go, despite being a de facto season ticket holder (red card).

Re: Wisconsin Badgers Off-Season '13

The sellouts were not actually full and I remember seeing a few people that couldn't get in but I don't think there is much they can do with a sellout, because there are no reserved seats they can't sell standing room only tickets. I wonder how many sellouts there will be this year.

Why can't they sell standing room only tickets? They'd just be the same as all the general admission tickets, which is all of them. Seeing people not be able to get in when there was definitely room (especially in the corners) was a shame. I would love to see it packed, and I mean packed, like at RIT men's games. I know overselling is very tricky, but I hope something can be done.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers Off-Season '13

If they sold standing room only tickets they would have to sell them for less than the other tickets. Let's say 3 dollars. Nobody checks tickets so what would stop these people from sitting in seats? Then people who have regular tickets might not get a seat and I know if I paid for a seat and didn't get one I would be pretty upset. They could complain to security but how are they going to find people sitting with standing room only tickets? They can't search every person for their ticket to make sure they have a seat. It happens at women's basketball games every game. People buy general admission seats for cheaper and sit in reserved sections. Same type of problem, there are rules but nobody enforces them.

Back to the topic about charging to get into the exhibition game and donating the money. I received an email that said the athletic department policy is that they do not charge for exhibition games. Last time I checked the football spring game was an exhibition and that costs 5 dollars to get in with the money being donated.
