Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Looking forward to this weekend's "meaningless" UM-UW series :D
It's not QUITE meaningless -- if UM sweeps UW they will be in a virtual tie for 2nd with the WCHA champion claiming the #2 spot. That is key for the NCAA quarterfinals since any CHA champion other than Syracuse (or RIT, but, lol) would be sent out west to the highest ranked WCHA team, barring a surprise run by ND or BSU.

It is a crime that LeBahn & Ridder are not sold out every game. I get what you are saying & you are not wrong but you are wrong! :)

You have a ways to go to catch up to Mrs minder & me. A St. Cloud dad told the missus "Why don't you just shut up?" when she hollered at his kid that had just gotten 2 for a particularly nasty slash on Sarah Davis' arm. But another dad put his arms around our shoulders and called us horses a**es for booing his precious twin daughters when they were announced. I agreed with him which he found unsatisfying. To me booing meant we cared enough, I'd be happy if the oppos boo'ed my kid.

I always maintain that one of the reasons players choose the WCHA is to play in front of crowds that get involved. Toning it down because they're women is pretty disrespectful, in my opinion.

The same goes for Big Ten volleyball - one reason players choose that league is to play in front of raucous crowds. Despite that, I occasionally come across someone who seems to think that these incredibly competitive athletes are too delicate/dainty to withstand fans shouting nonsense at them from ten feet away.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

+1 for the Fill-The-Bowl game being bad. I hope I'm not merging other disappointing aspects from that night - even before the game, the festive atmosphere from 2012's event was totally absent - but I remember the game itself being nowhere near as compelling as the Friday night game, even when the score was still close.

In January 2011, the UW heavily promoted the Saturday night game against Minnesota even though it wasn't officially a "Fill the Bowl" event. They drew almost 10,000 (which blew away the prior Badger attendence record) and there was an energy there that I thought was more than the next two Fill the Bowl events. Part of that was the novelty of a huge crowd, part was playing Minnesota and another part was the team was putting together a championship season (with the Olympic return of Duggan/Knight). Also helped that the Badgers scored right out the gate and the place exploded. Set the tone for the rest of the game. To date, it was probably the most electric regular season environment I watched the Badger women in.

Fast forward to 2014, the Badgers were in the middle of that horrendous losing streak to the Gophers and lost a close game the night before. I can only speak for myself, but I had an impending sense of doom. When the Gophers scored, it took the whole energy out of the building. Just had a feeling of "Here we go again." Would have been a totally different story if that game had played out like the Friday game. Badgers scored first and tied it up in the 3rd before eventually losing. Even though it would have been a loss, the feeling coming out of Kohl would have been a lot different.

I'm curious what the UW's thoughts are on future Fill the Bowls. A packed LaBahn probably gives them a better home-ice advantage, but I would think that they would want to have every recruiting class have that big crowd experience at least once in their Badger career.

for whomever that hero was that boo'd the players,

let me guess...you wear a WI hockey shirt and carry a cowbell... you eat powdered donuts, the powder is all over the front of the shirt. right next to that is the mustard from the hot dog from the last game. your mother never got to wash it between games because you didn't want to take it off...superstitious.

these girls are far from delicate. they can handle the booing. it's not church.
I know a player out east that loves being boo'd...but when it's a parent booing a player it is pretty creepy. I think 99.9% would agree. I assume you like being that .01%...which is not bad but when it's for that specific reason it's pretty creepy.

i'll get you some Krispy Kremes if you make it to UNH.

I totally agree. Our delicate little flower played and loved when the crowd got into it, home or away. When they are on the ice they are hockey players not 'girls' I have never been a fan of the cursing that happens in mens cheers so for me I think that both men & women put the same effort into it and deserve the same treatment from the crowd. Cheer your team hiss/boo the other team.

I think you're remembering the game wrong in hindsight. "Fill the Bowl" was half over before the Gophers scored. The UW announcers were starting to comment that the Badgers' physical play was tiring the Gophers out. So your feeling that UW wasn't in it was likely based more on previous games than what you were seeing over the first 30 minutes.

We were there so didn't hear the announcers but I remember a very tight & hard fought game that was tied till around the half-way point and stayed 1-0 till late in the 2nd. IIRC Wisconsin was rolling hard after giving up the first goal and did not slow down. It was not a sure thing. Minnesota scored early in the third and that was the first relief I felt during the game. The Badgers had a great team and played flat out, for 2/3 of the game it could have gone either way. It had to hurt to be on the losing end but it was a titanic game between very worthy teams. I know what that feels like because it was not so long ago that my kids were on the wrong side of that score after similar contests.

A) Who are you talking to? Pretty sure the person you are replying to is a current student/recent grad not a parent.

B) Mustard stain is probably from a brat, not a hot dog.

C) Does Krispy Kremes even make powered donuts?

D) Over the years when I've watched games near loud parents, they are either yelling for/at their daughters or at the refs. It's been the very rare occasion when I've heard a parent heckle an opposing player.

E) Cowbells are more SEC football than WCHA hockey.

F) Make sure to have plenty of cold beer on-hand if Wisconsin makes the Frozen Four.

There was that stretch where a few UMD fans brought them everywhere, but luckily, that didn't last.

As for booing people during the introductions, yeah, it's permissable to do that, but it comes right after the announcement about promoting good sportsmanship. Given women's hockey is much more of a family-friendly event than a lot of sports, can't we aim a little higher? Even the Lam's. I don't want anyone in a Gopher uniform who would rather be playing somewhere else. If they want to go, there's the door. For me as an adult male to boo some young lady just seems kind of messed up.

At UW games, there is probably a 5 minute gap between the sportsmanship video and intros. I have a very short term memory problem. ;) Anyway, I don't boo opposing players. Some people boo the opposing team during their pp, but I prefer to root for pk on instead. The only player specific thing I do is the sieve chant, unless the band is there, someone will yell "Mowatt!" and the response is "SUCKS!" I so enjoy that, but I do have a tinge of a naughtiness feeling after doing it. I do say "cheater" after icing and offsides. Otherwise it's all directed at cheering for UW, there's just a lot of it. Refs, they get booed when they deserve it.

That's the strangest thing I've read in a while. I don't know why you replied to my post, because the first sentence of your post indicates that you're talking about somebody else who might not even post on this board.

I was really tempted to scream SUCKS between the UND fans chant of Sioux, Sioux, Sioux at Ridder like I always did at the men's games
but at the women's game it just doesn't seem right
not because of the players
the fans, totally different behavior between the men & women's fans

but if WI meets UND in the WCHA tourney, you go ahead and do it, I certainly won't mind

It was supposed to be for 7netminder...I posted it in the wrong post.
I noticed I did it after it posted so I went back and edited it to state "to whomever..."
sorry

ne7minder in any kind of Wisconsin apparel is amusing but I would hazard a guess it would be because he/she lost a bet. :)

I do plan on watching the 2nd and 3rd period of the MN Clarkson Championship game...I got curious after the first period when I saw BC Harvard game from last year listed. I wanted to see if "THE" goal in the 3rd period was really as bad as I thought...it was. still hurts.

If we're going there, it would be funnier to see him in North Dakota gear.
