Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Solid performance last night in front of about 1,200 along with the UW band, which was nice to see.

Very liberal use of 4 forward lines and 6 defensemen and predictably wore out St. Cloud in the 2nd and 3rd periods. The Decker goal was definitely the highlight goal.

Hoping for a bigger crowd tonight with the state high school tourney final being in the afternoon and the Badger men's game not being televised.

Electric atmosphere, and a great win they needed.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Terrible officiating last night. Especially by Ludwig. I was surprised that Packer came back to play after the hit that she took into the boards. She was clearly p***** off, taking a penalty well after the whistle later in the game. Almost got ice cream again with the team seeming to really try hard to get that 5th goal all the way to the end. On to Minneapolis.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Loud and fun game that got chippier as it went along. Decker and Packer were playing with an edge all night. I agree that the refs had a rough night. They didn't seem consistent at all as to what was a penalty and seemed to miss on a couple of basic icing and offsides calls.

Badgers again went pretty deep in the bench, but I don't think they will have that luxury next weekend. The semi-final against No Dak is going to be a war. Not only is it a good rivalry game as it is, but a NCAA berth could very well be on the line. The loser will be sweating it out big-time during selection Sunday.

The officials have been bad at 90% of the games this year. It seems like they don't care. I think most of them need to look for a new job.

The reffing was a complete joke. There are some penalties that are subjective, but hooking is hooking, and St. Clown was doing a lot of that. I saw so much hooking I thought I took my kids to a brothel in Holland. That Packer high stick deal happened right in fronm of Ludwig, what a loser. Then there was the time when a Badger and a Huskie were locked together and they hit the boards in the 3rd period, and the call when against UW, when it should have been a no call. Pathetic. Packer skating over to that gal and gentley touching her was funny, then she goes down like she just took a bullet to the head.

It was not a good sign that Decker and Packer kind of lost their cool in the game. Decker was on the refs from the start ofthe game. To me that says they feel a lot of pressure. The bar is set pretty high @ UW, but they just need to go out and relax this weekend and have a good time on the ice.

The band being there was a great surprise. We sat right down by them, it was pretty cool.

We were probably near each other as the wife and I also sat right near the band on Saturday night. I love the energy that they bring to the game environment.

Decker and Packer (whole team actually) will have to tread the fine line of playing with emotion versus playing out of control. Multiple 5-on-3 penalty kills will be disasterous again a team like No Dak. Also need to keep getting contributions from the lower lines.

I think the pressure will be about the same for Wisconsin and North Dakota. The loser probably doesn't make the NCAAs which would be a bitter season-ender for either team.

My eldest son was wearing this furry Badger hat and he was in the front row along the boards with his sister. The wife, son, My sister and I were in the 2nd row. We did a little family picture before the game, I don't know how early you arrived. I had my felmet on.

Sounds like this sue match-up us pretty much a do or die game. I suppose there's no tv or any purchasable on line viewing for this....

I'm fairly sure the WCHA will be streaming the games from their site.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

I brought my 2-year old daughter to the game. She hadn't had a nap all day and so she only lasted one period before I spent the next two walking around the concourse as well as checking out the drums. She did seem interested though when the play was down in the end where we sat (front row, opposite side from the band). And she loved Bucky (aka Guppy in our house), of course.

This was my second game, with the first being the opener. I still can't get over the leg-room issue, the seat-width issue, and the lack of adequate concessions and merchandise stands. I bought the $2 ticket for my daughter mostly to get more space for my 6'2" frame. I had thought maybe we could get over to the Bucky's Lockerroom in the KC to get my daughter a new Badger outfit as she had outgrown her latest Badger cheerleader outfit. No dice. La Bahn is nice, but it could have been so much nicer.

Yeah, I don't think any poster on this site is 100% happy with the place. It indeed could have been so much more, the cheap azz Barry had to cheap it out. Great point on Buck'y Lockerroom. You can buy a few things at LaB, can't you? They should open that up at least before the games. Too bad the layout didn't allow that to be shared by both facilities.

They should just build a nice store in the area in between the two arenas. Gotta love that you can go to Minnesota and get swag galore at Goldy's without having to jump through hoops.

Yes, this is correct. It's what they've done in past years, and the WCHA press release about this weekend's game confirms it will be the case again this year. The stream is free.

There's no direct link yet, but it looks like they're running it through AmericaOne.

Is Ridder that much different than what's at LaBahn for merchandise? I was thinking Ridder might have a few more things, or at least a store that extends slightly into the concourse, but I was thinking that was also a glorified kiosk. I haven't been there in a couple years though.

I've got plenty of issues with LaBahn, but merchandise and concessions are two areas where I've never found a big problem. Yes, the merchandise stand is limited, but they do sell pretty much every womens hockey item that's available. And I've never had a especially long wait at the concession stand.

Ridder has basically a hole in the wall with a decent selection of stuff. Nothing compares to the "Store" experience though, like that found at Goldy's or the shop in the Ralph. Maine also has an excellent setup at Alfond.

Due to some "time management" issues at the restaurant prior to the game, we didn't roll in until after faceoff. With that said, I remember making a mental note of a guy with a felt helmet on near the ice several rows ahead of me. Going to make a wild guess that was you with your family.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

I'm getting nervously excited. This is as huge a hockey weekend as UW has had overall in a long time, both teams fighting for thier ncaa lives.

Let's go RED!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Scrambling to finishing up all my work for the day so I can catch the on-line feed. Wish I could be up there.

On Wisconsin!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2012-2013 - The LaBahn Era Begins

Video feed kind of sucks. Badgers down 1-0 after 1. Cannot afford to get down by 2 as they are not really a big come-from-behind kind of team.
