Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Well, quick recap..Badgers swept RPI last weekend, though the first game was much closer than expected. Prevost gets co-offensive player of the week after an 8-point weekend.

Should be a couple of wins this weekend against St. Cloud. Nice to see that Alev Kelter is back after completing the soccer season. Adds quality depth to a position where they are already strong. Curious if Rigsby gets both starts this weekend. Outside of some serious third period mop-up duty against Lindenwood opening weekend, I think Rigsby has played every other minute.

Not exactly sure what kind of crowd to expect on a Black Friday game. Though I don't think they promoted it real well, tickets for today's game are only $1.

Don't have a link for it, but it sounds like everything is on schedule for LaBahn Arena to open next October. Really looking forward to the women's team having their own arena and hoping it will minimize the Friday 2:00 games.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Is there any news about Carolyne Prévost's injury in yesterday's game?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

She was sitting in the stands, with her leg in a brace during Sunday's game. I haven't heard anything, and didn't talk to her, but I'm guessing by the brace and the way she was moving around as she went to and from the locker room that she's going to be out for awhile.

Freshman forward Katy Josephs has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

The Calgary, Alberta native contributed a goal and an assist to help the University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team to a two-game conference sweep over St. Cloud State last weekend.

Joseph had an assist in the Badgers’ 5-0 shutout victory over the visiting Huskies at the Kohl Center on Friday and then scored UW’s third goal in a 6-1 triumph on Sunday. Along with her two points in the series, Josephs put five shots on goal and earned a +2 plus/minus rating as Wisconsin moved back into first place in the league race.

Seeing action in all 16 of Wisconsin’s games this season, Josephs is tied for third in overall scoring among WCHA freshmen with 10 points (3G, 7A).

My first game of the year for the ladies this past Sunday. What a great team. Great skills and you can see how well coached they are.

(Would I be sexist if I also added how good looking they are as well?) :D

Anyone else planning on the Fill the Bowl for January 28? I'm hoping to get up a group from Milwaukee to head up and support the ladies. Haven't made it for a Fill the Bowl before - should be fun to see them get support and be amongst all the fans.

Does anyone know why this video was made? It's pretty nice for just 11-seconds.

I am hoping to get 10-12 people from the metropolis of Juneau. Last year we got there just as the lower bowl filled and we got the second tier, first row at center ice. I could not have planned it any better than that.

Was really disappointed/upset when Minnesota took over the #1 ranking this week, despite having one more loss.

So I'm happy to report that Minnesota lost tonight to third-place Minnesota-Duluth 4-2. The Badgers have a chance to get a little more separation here, so hopefully they take care of business at North Dakota.

As much as I would love the 'Dogs to have that #1 Spot, I will gladly take knocking down the current #1 to hand it back over to Big Red. Confused how one win and a tie earns you #1 with a powerhouse like UW doing their usual awesome thing...

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

I was also a little put out that the Badgers go from undisputed #1 down to #2 after a shootout win and 1-0 loss on the road to the #2 ranked team. Though I guess the arguement could be made that Minnesota won the season series 6 points to 5. Whatever..

With that said, I was also pleased to see UMD knock off the Gophers last night. Not that they probably weren't jacked up to play Minnesota anyway, but having them #1 may have been even more motivation.

Hopefully, the Badgers can take care of business against North Dakota, but fully expect a couple of tough games. If they can put any more distance in the standings against the Gophers this weekend, they will be close to impossible to catch for the regular season title.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Before someone calls me out on it, Minnesota actually took 7 points to 5 for Wisconsin in the season series, if my math is right.

I'll be very interested in how things will go for Fill the Bowl. Wish it was a more high profile opponent, no offense to Bemidji State, though they are better than the average fan around here thinks.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Wow, wouldn't have predicted a 8-2 rout. Looking at the box score, looked like a physical game with the Lamoureaux and Ammerman sisters being in the mix of everything. Lams combined for 8 penatly minutes and a goal, while the Ammermans tallied 16 penalty minutes, a goal and four assists.

Oh, can't leave out that Decker had a hat trick.

Looking at the line-up and didn't see McKeough or Turnbull. More injuries, national team play, other?

Let's go get that sweep tomorrow and take firm control of the league lead.

That math is correct for the WCHA. The way that the poll voters likely look at it is the national picture, where Wisconsin went 1-2-1 versus Minnesota (or 3 of 8 points if viewed in terms of points, although this is an abstract concept at the national level.) But overall I agree that UW should have stayed #1 after last weekend, and will certainly be so next week, unless the voters are impressed by Cornell beating teams that they should beat. If UW wins tomorrow (today?), I predict that the next poll has #1 UW, #2 Cornell, #3 Minnesota.

Probably true, it seems clear that the top two team are UW and UM though. Based on past practices I am convident that the pollsters will do all that they can to ensure an EAST vs West final as opposed to a WEST vs WEST final and moving Cornell to #2 helps to acheive that.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Ok, on this thread there is only one Big Red and that's Wisconsin. :)

Not that Cornell isn't a very good team, but I'm curious how they'd fare having to play 4 games a year against Wisconsin, Minnesota, UMD and North Dakota.

Glad your in agreement that Cornell should be #1. Go Big Red!

Haha! Well played, pakidnyc! I will say that I became a reluctant Cornell fan after their stunning performance in the 2010 National Championship game. Their fans were also great!

Looking forward to a spirited game against WI and UND today!

Sorry I couldn't resist hijacking your thread ;) Sorry, to say, I am hoping UND pulls one out giving #1 and #2 one loss on the weekend...

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Definitely feels like the Badgers left a couple of points on the table in North Dakota. Normally, they don't squander two goal leads, no matter who or where they are playing. Granted, it didn't help that Decker didn't play the last two periods (or something like that).

It leaves the door still slightly open for the Gophers in the conference standings. Needless to say, the upcoming Badger series against UMD will be huge for everybody involved.
