Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Strongly disagree. What ever happened to respect for the game and respect for the opponent. I have no problem with you cheering for your team and enjoy a win, but jeez treat others with some respect. I certainly have little respect for people who make comments like the two Err make that three of you made.

So seive chanting on the 11th goal was not respecting Lindenwood? Phil stopped doing the 1 2 3 4 5 6 we want more chant after 6 or seven goals. I was bummed.

Realistically, what could Johnson have done? If he calls off the dogs, and they are clearly not trying to score, I would be p/o'ed as an attending fan. I didn't drive 55 miles 1 way to watch a practice or exhibition game. I want goals!

My son was a decent goalie on a bad squirt team, they lost 10-1 all the time. It sucks, but sometimes life sucks. Those instances make you better.

And, if you looked at Lindenwood's record and results over the last fews years, they crushed teams worse than UW crushed them, way worse.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

I'll be there for the game next Friday night (14 Oct). I'll be bringing my wife and 17 year-old daughter...all the way from Colorado Springs. lol

Itinerary:
Thursday - Road trip to Wisconsin
Friday - Women's Badger Hockey vs. Minnesota
Saturday - Badger Football vs. Indiana
Sunday - Packer Football vs. St. Louis Rams
Monday - Road Trip back to Colorado Springs

5 days...2,500+ miles round-trip, 3-sport road trip! How's that for a fun weekend? lol

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

It should be an interesting series this weekend with NoDak. They should provide a much bigger challenge than Lindenwood did. Im still expecting UW to sweep but at most they will be 3-1 or 4-1 wins.
NoDak put up a good fight against BU last weekend but BU is no Wisconsin.

Not sure how you would define a "good fight", but NoDak beat BU in the second game, 5-1.

I would venture to guess that Mark Johnson will make sure his team doesn't take UND too lightly.

The Badgers will have their hands full in my opinion, in many ways these will be their first real games given that they were missing roughly 1/2 of their top 10-12 players vs Lindenwood. UND on the other hand played a couple of real games with their real rosters. I think Wisco will prevail but things will be tight.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

At this point, I've added North Dakota to the list of Minnesota and UMD where I fully expect close games against the Badgers, regardless of venue. I think Wisconsin has superior depth and goaltending, but the Sioux going out and getting a split against BU is impressive.

Hopefully, there will be decent crowds both days as they neither have to go up against Badger football on Saturday or the Packers on Sunday. Not sure if playing when it's sunny and 80 degrees out helps.

Re: Lindenwood

The Badgers also only suited (I think) 16 girls. They didn't have a lot of options in terms of pulling the more talented girls and playing the lower lines. They just didn't have the numbers to do that.

Bullit - that road trip sounds amazing. Awesome that you get to see so many games. Have so much fun!

Don't underestimate UND. They might just be the most formidable WCHA opponent Wisco faces this year. Great early season top ten matchup. I would be betting on a split in this one.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Wow, dead thread for the #1 team in the country. Nice sweep with a comeback win on Sunday. Not surprisingly, North Dakota was very competitive, but Rigsby always keeps them in the game and the offense is rarely held down all game.

It's going to be a great series this weekend against the Gophers. Not that Minnesota doesn't want to beat Wisconsin anyway, but I'm sure they would enjoy ending the Badgers 31-game unbeaten streak.

I wish that tomorrow's game wasn't going up against both the Brewers and Badger volleyball at the Fieldhouse. There are only 4 night games all year and one of them was against Lindenwood. Not a lot of local promotion for the series, which is a little frustrating.

UND looks really good this year (the 2 games in madison).....they can create some trouble later this season.......
I'm looking forward to see the 2 BU games in madison as well....with poulin coming to town.

The UW bench was not at full strength at all.

This weekend....LET'S GO RED! Let's wax some rodent booty tonight!

(Channeling my roots for Wisconsin this weekend.) ON WISCONSIN!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Speaking of a less than full strength bench, I see that Ruegsegger is not suiting up for games, but is on the roster...is she hurt? How about Packer, anyone know how she is doing?

Good to see Dan Koch back behind the bench and I see that Peter Johnson has taken on Coach Koch's old role with the U16 team at Shattuck, very interesting!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Big win for the girls over #3 Minnesota tonight.

They also tied an NCAA record for most consecutive wins with 32 (set by UW in 2007).

The Badgers came out strong, netting 3 in the first period (including 2 in the first 4 minutes) and that held for the rest of the game. The Gophers out-shot the Badgers 13-5 in the third period and after a penalty late in the game, pulled their goalie and skated 6-4, but Rigsby held up and Wisconsin won 3-2.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Badgers have yet to play up to their full potential this season. Hopefully that will come in time.

Luckily Prevost has been there to bail them out so far..

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Well, losing is never ideal, but it was going to happen eventually and losing 3-2 to a talented Minnesota team isn't anything to get too bothered by. Makes the 32-game unbeaten streak look that more impressive considering since their prior loss they had played North Dakota 6 times, Minnesota 5 times and UMD 3 times and won the NCAA title.

The meat-grinder of the schedule continues with a trip to Duluth. After 6 straight home games, the team might be looking forward to hitting the road.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

Per Andy Baggott's article that I can't seem to cut and paste, UW is putting together a bid to host the 2014 NCAA Final Four to be held at Kohl Center.

Madison is way overdue for both the NCAA Final Four and/or the WCHA Frozen Four, but facilities have always been an issue. I'm still surprised that there would be an open weekend in March for Kohl Center. Badger men's hockey and the state tournaments usually take up all the weekends.

I would love to see it here, but the article says one obstacle would be that Duluth is hosting this year and Minneapolis the next. Three WCHA sites in a row would definitely be surprising. But maybe since the league has owned the NCAA title from Day 1, it should host more Final Fours. Plus, UW may make an offer that the NCAA can't refuse. If the Badgers got in to a Madison Final Four, an attendence record would most certainly be set.

Interesting to see how this will play out.

Yes, but two WCHA sites in a row was surprising, as was three out of four, interrupted only by a CHA host in Erie, PA. It makes me wonder if the ECAC sites ever bid. The large ice sheet in the Kohl Center isn't the ideal size for a Frozen Four IMO, but there is certainly a precedent for Olympic sheets (The Whittemore Center, Mariucci.) I'd guess the chance to go to a new location and that 10K fan possibility would be a big draw. Plus, Madison seems to have enough people willing to support college athletics that even if UW didn't make it to the FF, some people should turn out and prevent the building from being empty.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2011-12 - The Drive for Five

I think if UW makes a sweet enough offer, the NCAA won't care about site equality.

I would like to tell you that the local fan base would show up in large numbers regardless of the Badgers making the Final Four...but I can't. There would be a radical attendence drop-off if Wisconsin didn't get in. Can't defend it, but that's the reality of it. The same problem happens when Kohl has hosted a men's hockey regional in the past.
