Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

NY City subways closing 11 PM.

So much for the "city that 'never' sleeps," eh? ;)

"Here at CNN we're driving around in the Blizzardmobile. We call it that because we're driving and it's in a blizzard."

Thanks guys.

It was 70F here today. Tomorrow it'll be around 65-70. I love Denver.

Ain't most of the NYC subway system underground?? And for the parts that are surface or above ground, why don't they have a couple of souped up snowblowers attached to the front of a service vehicle that can remove the snow from the lines??

Tracks are electrified. Do the math.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Wait, so NYC got a foot of snow and you can be fined $300 for violating the travel ban? Wow.

They thought the snowfall was going to be much deeper than it actually turned out to be.

And this just in, de Blasio happy he didn't go with his original planned warning -- AGHHHH! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Update here in Central Jersey right on the shore-we got a total of about 5 inches, no major winds, a little drifting, and so far zero power outages. It is freaking cold though since 20 degrees feels just that much worse when you are right on the ocean. Overall, overblown panic down here but I suppose better to be safe than sorry. So much for the blizzard of the century.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

I guess the Blizzard of the Century couldn't cover that much land so it just focused on Massachusetts. So for those of you in Flatlander Country, could you modify your snarkiness to make sure it's just the NY/NJ/Philly area you're focusing on? Because we're getting totally slammed here. Hurricane-force winds plus snow and high tides are pretty disastrous. The entire island of Nantucket is without power. A sea wall was destroyed and sea coast areas are flooding. Still showing and lots of powerful wind.

Southern Maine getting hammered also, York County with close to 2ft of snow

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

They thought the snowfall was going to be much deeper than it actually turned out to be.

So they can get a couple of those fancy diesel snow removers like what Chicago has and run them 24/7 along with all of the other snow equipment they have for the regular trains. Most of NYC's system is underground anyways and it wouldn't be that big of a deal to have a train roll along a line about every hour or so just to plow snow off of the tracks when you're getting hammered with heavy up to 3 inches of snow in a hour snowfall.
