The 1961 Maximillian Schell, Burt Lancaster, William Shatner, Richard Widmark, Spencer Tracy movie?

Powerful. Well done.

Awesome, thank you! I need to check it out ASAP. I saw a clip on YouTube of the speech re Churchill, Inustrialists and bankers and was shocked that was a mainstream film.

Re: Who is in your Deadpool for Solo: Infinity War

A Star is Born was great. Could have done without that 23 minutes of previews though, amc

My wife gets really worked up when watching a movie or show that she likes, and was in tears at the end. Neither of us really knew the plot, having never seen any of the prior 3 or 4 versions.

Lady Gaga nails her role, and it turns out that I like her voice when she's not singing a song for pure shock value. Also, I want to look into the music used for Bradley Cooper's character. There was some good stuff mixed in there.

All the music was original as I understand it. Should be a soundtrack around somewhere.

Yes it is all original songs and the soundtrack has topped the charts all over the world including here.

Re: Who is in your Deadpool for Solo: Infinity War

Not saying I agree with the decision but I read (don't recall if this was pure speculation or from the makers of the film) they ended after Live Aid because they didn't want to dwell on his contracting AIDS (which he discovered 2 years after the concert not before) and rather go out on a high note reflective of the how freaking BIG that moment was historically.

Like I said it was rather boring and there is so much out there on YouTube to discover that there's nothing ground-breaking in the film, but for me seeing it in the theater felt like a rock concert on a scale much grander than watching on my laptop or even my 55-inch and surround sound. But I get why others might not feel it's worth a theater viewing.

Re: Who is in your Deadpool for Solo: Infinity War

I just think the script was incomplete. I mean they never even showed real conflict in the band. They never showed the band struggle. They never even had Freddie explain why he wanted to become a singer...he just goes to a club and POOF he joins a band. Then the band starts performing and POOF they make an album. The band makes the album and POOF they are touring America. There were five year jumps with no explanation as to why or what happened in that time frame. There is zero depth because you never feel any of the characters grow for half the film.

Hell they spent more time talking about what A Day in the Races was going to be than they did actually showing the making of it and even that was just Freddie being OCD about Bohemian Rhapsody.

And, I get Freddie was a Diva and an epic pain in the butt but the film made it seem like the rest of the band was just normal and never a pain and that is far from the truth. The film set Freddie up as the villain in the story (he was always late, he caused all the problems, he had to beg for forgiveness) and wants people to believe no one else did anything wrong.

Honestly I think Sacha Baron Cohen was right in his criticism when he left the film. And I think the rest of the band had too much creative control of the film which is why Freddie's character is never fully fleshed out and the real behind the scenes stuff never gets talked about.

And seeing the performance and hearing the songs was cool...but that fades fast. See the problem is since I have seen many of the concerts they showed (or clips of similar ones) after about 10 seconds my mind reminds me that what I am seeing isnt Queen performing it is a bunch of Queen Cosplayers lipsynching. Even Malek, who was about as spot on as you can get in mimicking Mercury, after a few minutes in the Live Aid show it just doesnt feel the same. Because they mostly just used Queen's actual music it doesnt feel authentic, it feels like a music video. In contrast, every time I see the preview for the Elton John biopic Rocketman it feels real because Taron Egerton is actually singing. Sure it sounds different, but it feels connected.

Well they show the band giving give him a short-lived hard time when he said he wanted to come back but even that was contrived. Same thing with some very minor conflicts during the creative process which was far from the truth. I also didn't like how they (incorrectly portrayed him meeting Roger and Brian) took him from watching them play to suddenly being their leader and bam SUCCESS! And yeah most of the singing wasn't Malek, but Freddie and some unknown but dammit I still tapped my feet, clapped and sang!!!! :p

Oh I did too...I just was disappointed in the rest of the film which sucks cause it could have been great.

The Death Of Stalin:

After the death of Stalin, different people vie for power.

Delicious dark satire. My God, I was laughing hysterically throughout the movie. It's like Christopher Guest took a bunch of crack and made a movie. So off the wall, in a very smart, curt, and intelligent way. I would highly recommend this.

Netflix? I've been waiting for it on streaming.

Pretty much. :D And also not entirely inaccurate (though the real story is a lot more complex and took place over months, not days).

Disc for me. I have streaming and 1 disc to cover everything.

Best Of Enemies:

Doc on the Buckley/Vidal debates. Man, those guys were eloquent. They discussed, debated, but never reached the angry shouting heads that we see today, and mistake for debate. Great watch.

I did not. I think someone on here did get the early watch, but don't recall who.

Chappaquiddick:

The story of Teddy Kennedy's car accident. Well-acted, I thought the movie gave a little too much sympathy to Teddy, softened the actions of his a little. It was still worth a watch.

Might've had to soften things a bit to prevent the Kennedy family from siccing their lawyers on it.

Or the director is a flaming Hollywood lib, and didn't want to go there.
