Re: What the Fark 3: The Strange and Unusual

This time of year we have a plane that flies between Anchorage and Seattle solely carrying seafood to Seattle and cherries, many pallets of them, from Washington to go to China and Japan for exorbitant prices.
Maine ships lobsters all over the world, China has become a huge buyer. Most hard shell lobsters(shedders don't travel well) leave Maine the day they are caught for Boston and NY airports and then other spots throughout the world.

Small town North Dakota, yeah, I drove a few folks home from the bar before I was eligible for a learner's permit. Then again, I was driving for nearly a decade when I became eligible for a permit.
Yikes! My North Dakota learners permit was issued to me at age 13. 3 seems early, even for North Dakota.

I said "nearly" a decade. ;)

Drove a tractor to the yard from the field at 5; drove a street-legal vehicle over a couple miles of gravel to the yard at 7. That was an automatic. Learned how to drive a stick later that summer (with some troubles reaching the clutch).

I got my permit the first day eligible; I had my ND driver's license (no restrictions) two months before my 15th birthday (youngest in my HS class). When the trooper who did the road test with me realized this he looked at my dad and said, "Are you sure?" My father said he needed me driving grain truck to the elevator legally because I'd been doing it illegally too long. ;) :D

These days ND is license at 16 with a ton of restrictions (passengers, night).

I am old. Would somebody young please explain to me what this stupid game really is?

It's a mobile phone game based upon an old Nintendo Gameboy game and cartoon series. Nintendo has made billions upon billions of dollars from this franchise over the past 15-20 years.

Now that it's on the mobile phone platforms, they have people doing what's essentially a massive scavenger hunt throughout their various towns. They check in with the phone on the spot where a Pokémon (contraction of pocket-monster, I'm told) are listed as being and the players "capture" them. Then they do some other things in the game about which I know very little.

Um. Yeah.

Don't read the Comments if you want to retain any hope for humanity. You have been warned.

One of the local parks here is laid out in the shape of a Star of David. It's a memorial to Ukrainian Jews slaughtered in Kiev during the Holocaust. If not for Ingress (Pokémon Go's predecessor created by the same developer and the source of their map data) I would have never known about it.
