What is your favorite playoff moment?

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

My son and I were sitting near team toga at that game, but it was before I had met most of yuse guys.
Great times! that was a great idea because our section started off as just us..but at the end of the game we must have had 30 people join us! That was a stunning comeback. The sound of the fans in that arena was the craziest noise I've ever heard. And I'll never forget it.

Last year at the F5 semi final between UND and UMTC. It was pretty funny watching UMTC give up 6 unanswered.

Of course in 2011 when UND couldn't score a goal against Michigan...the moment that empty netter sealed it for Michigan and the consternation from the UND fans was, yes I'm a horrible fan, hilarious.

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

#1: Sconnie wins NC in Detroit in 1990. My first NC game in person.
#2: Sconnie wins NC in Milwaukee 1996, watching in the Bradley Center with my fiancee.
#3: Sconnie wins regional in 3 ot's in Green Bay (my home town), watching from the blue line, row 2 where Skille shot the winner (also with my fiancee).
#4:Holy Cross defeats Minnesota.

Worst Memory: driving back from Albany in 1992 after Wisconsin gets screwed by a crummy ECAC ref that calls TWO 5-on-3 power plays in the championship game.

#2? Do you mean 2006? The Badgers didn't win an NC in 1996.

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

Best:
1. PC beating UNH in the Hockey East quarter finals this year on St. Patrick's Day. The entire student section was decked out in green and they were the best I've ever seen them. I never in a million years thought I'd see PC play on home ice in the playoffs, and I couldn't have dreamt up a more perfect game for the last time I'd see PC play at Schneider as an undergrad.
2. Maine winning the 1999 national championship. This was my introduction to college hockey, and I'll never forget hearing my neighborhood erupt when Maine finally scored.
3. BC winning in 2010. I actually watched this game from my hotel room at the NCA College Cheerleading National Championship in Daytona Beach, and my teammates were confused as to why I cared so much about the game. I was overjoyed watching Brian Dumoulin (who I'd previously seen absolutely dominate Maine high school hockey) win a national championship. It was just surreal.

Worst:
2004 national championship game. Brutal.

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

- Denver holding on for dear life with a 6-on-3 to end the title game in Boston

I forgot about that one! The only problem was, I was cheering for Maine (and I still think they got robbed by the ridiculous "no goal" call). :)

Well, I can't say "worst" for me (since I'm a BU fan) but that was pretty disappointing. I had gone to the game with one of my best friends, a Black Bear alumnus who lives in Saco and it was pretty devastating...

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

RIT 6
UNH 2

In late March, 2010.

(And the incredibly joyous and hearty congratulations I received from a couple of Maine fans, in full gear despite Maine not being there, on the way out.)

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

For Tech 1994 was a good year. Upset #1 CC at home and then went to the Bradley center where we beat NMU 5-1 as the 10 seed. Listening to the band chanting "We're number 10" was priceless.

Just imagine a 12-year-old me sitting in my living room in a umaine jersey holding on to a black bear stuffed animal and crying.

(I feel like I should clarify that I'm a girl.)

Games that I was really not happy about: Minny vs. UNH, NC game in 2003, Minny beat my Michigan team in an exciting OT game while UNH had a close game against Cornell to match up for the final. But for the game, New Hampshire thought the tournament was apprently over. Terrible game to watch as a neutral fan 5-1 Minny.
Two years later, CC has an amazing comeback against my Michigan team in the regional final. Again, the must have thought the tournament was over, since the national semi-final, against their biggest rival Denver they laid an egg, losing badly 6-2.

There may be some blow outs early in the rounds, but it really frustrates me to see a team just play terrible in the Frozen Four. So much work to get there leads to so little effort.

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

Favorite non-BU moment, Eastern Regionals at Providence Civic Center in 1992. At this time, BU and Maine had a venomous rivalry. Michigan St knocked out BU on Thursday night to advance to Saturday night's final vs Maine, who'd earned a bye.

Maine had one of those teams that "wasn't supposed to lose". This game was regarded as a mere formality for them to reach the FF. MSU had a one goal lead in the 3rd Period. Most of the period was played in the MSU d-zone. You had the feeling that if Maine scored once, they'd scored 2 or 3 more. They never scored. MSU won.

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

I suck, and I don't have any non-homer favorites.

But mine are both from the 2004 NCAA tourney--DU beating North Dakota 1-0 in the Colorado Springs regional with a stunning goal from Max Bull (though Fulghum may take credit). DU and Berkhoel had masterfully withstood a barrage of pressure over the course of the game, and DU's goal just came out of nowhere to stun everyone involved.

As good as that was, withstanding the 6-on-3 for the last 90 seconds of the national championship vs. Maine that year was so much better. It appeared that we were doomed. 35 years since the last national championship. On the verge of finally winning, but wait...a 5 on 4...then a 5 on 3...then a 6 on 3...shots off the post....Carle's last ditch attempt to lift the stick of a Maine player who had an open net to shoot at....Berkhoel's dynamic save....Caldwell refusing to call a time out...and somehow coming out on top at the end. That was really fun, and will probably be my best sports moment no matter what happens in the future.

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

Here's one of my favorite non-BC ones... I had been rooting for Maine since I wanted to see BC eliminate them the next night and didn't really like the Gophers that much. I got the package for two nights back in the old tourney format and my dad and I went to these games for the heck of it since BC had a bye that first night. CC/SLU had gone into 2OTs in the prior game so it was a long long night but still very enjoyable. Great hockey.

First Period
umn-1 John Pohl (Erik Westrum, Jordan Leopold) 5x4 7:50
me-1 Todd Jackson (Robert Liscak, Doug Janik) 5x4 19:54

Second Period
umn-2 Grant Potulny (John Pohl, Erik Westrum) 5x5 8:44
me-2 Lucas Lawson (Dan Kerluke, Martin Kariya) 5x5 10:40

Third Period me-3 Doug Janik (Niko Dimitrakos, Tom Reimann) 5x4 2:58
umn-3 Grant Potulny (Dylan Mills, Jordan Leopold) 5x4 7:02
umn-4 Erik Westrum (Paul Martin, John Pohl) 5x5 9:26
me-4 Michael Schutte (Niko Dimitrakos, Martin Kariya) 6x4 19:57

Overtime
me-5 Robert Liscak (Unassisted) GWG 5x5 13:04

That's OK - I'm NOT a girl and I would cry when the Red Sox lost (which was all the time in the early 60s) :)

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

2nd best niko in history, behind niko in Above The Law

Preach on brother mookie.

Niko the Greek-o was a good college player and even had a nice run with the Sharks for a while. But he's still a dirty bastid for playing under Walsh and needing a teammate to cheat to win the 2000 HE title. :)
