What is your favorite playoff moment?

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

Mowers from Souza in OT Shorthanded to knock out #1 BU in Albany in 1998 after an unexpected win against Wisconsin the night before to send UNH to first FF in a long time.

Matched and possibly surpassed by 2009 Fortney scoring with .1 second left to tie North Dakota and LeBlanc scored less than a minute into OT to win in Manchester... two exciting wins for UNH.

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

Here's one of my favorite non-BC ones... I had been rooting for Maine since I wanted to see BC eliminate them the next night and didn't really like the Gophers that much. I got the package for two nights back in the old tourney format and my dad and I went to these games for the heck of it since BC had a bye that first night. CC/SLU had gone into 2OTs in the prior game so it was a long long night but still very enjoyable. Great hockey.

First Period
umn-1 John Pohl (Erik Westrum, Jordan Leopold) 5x4 7:50
me-1 Todd Jackson (Robert Liscak, Doug Janik) 5x4 19:54

Second Period
umn-2 Grant Potulny (John Pohl, Erik Westrum) 5x5 8:44
me-2 Lucas Lawson (Dan Kerluke, Martin Kariya) 5x5 10:40

Third Period me-3 Doug Janik (Niko Dimitrakos, Tom Reimann) 5x4 2:58
umn-3 Grant Potulny (Dylan Mills, Jordan Leopold) 5x4 7:02
umn-4 Erik Westrum (Paul Martin, John Pohl) 5x5 9:26
me-4 Michael Schutte (Niko Dimitrakos, Martin Kariya) 6x4 19:57

Overtime
me-5 Robert Liscak (Unassisted) GWG 5x5 13:04

i was sitting about 15 rows behind the minnesota net for schutte's goal... with some minnesota fans right in front of me... good times....

Preach on brother mookie.

Niko the Greek-o was a good college player and even had a nice run with the Sharks for a while. But he's still a dirty bastid for playing under Walsh and needing a teammate to cheat to win the 2000 HE title. :)

yeah, yeah, yeah... haven't heard this one since about this time last year.... :)

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

Montgomery from Kariya x3 to beat Lake Superior State in 1993
Gustafson in OT vs UNH to win the National Championship in 1999
Maine 7 UNH 2 in 2002
Maine 2 - UMass 1 in 3OT for the Hockey East Title (Howard robbing Pock to save the game for Maine)
The aforementioned Maine/MN OT game in Worcester
3rd period comeback vs. Harvard in Albany followed the next day by an OT win over Wisconsin

Tying goal should not have happened due to offsides on the play.

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

My favorite feeling was slowly walking up the steps and to the exit after a Sioux celebration, being careful not to slip on Gopher fan tears.

The worst feeling, getting out of the building and to the bar across the street ASAP after a Gopher win.

Sioux Ya Ya!!!!

Agree. Although not matched or surpassed by 2009 since the '98 one was really the start of the "success" (such as it is) that the program has enjoyed since....Could not talk for 3-days after getting home from Albany...

that was when Princeton 'tender Zane Kalemba lost his mind and threw the puck in the corner trying to run out the clock rather than take a d-zone draw with a couple of seconds left. UMD threw the puck out front and banged it home to tie and then won it in overtime.
That was 09? I remember, that was an insane postseason. There were a number of Dewey defeats Truman posts in here.

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

My favorite moment for my team? Well, the championships. But I had center-ice seats for the legendary Molly Game Weekend at Yost, and few moments have ever topped that in any sport for me.

Oh, wow. That whole weekend was crazy, but, yes, Molly-Gate was epic. That was the first regional I attended, and that was the loudest I've ever heard Yost (I was not there for the '98 regional)

For me, it was last year, when we punched our ticket to the Frozen Four. I don't think I need to go any further there.

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

IIRC there was a great UMD comeback that same year against Princeton at the Mariucci regional.
This reminds me of another. Racing with bbdl and Shirtless Guy to Mariucci from their house in Fridley after the 3rd to try and catch OT. Walked right in, and made it with 15 minutes to go in the OT, and got to see the winner. :D

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

Last year at the F5 semi final between UND and UMTC. It was pretty funny watching UMTC give up 6 unanswered.

THAT was one heck of a game. I will never forget sitting in Fargo, watching FSN with Gram and Dad... Listening to Gram hoot and holler throughout the comeback. *grin* Good stuff.

Much better times the next year watching Schutte sitting in the box in OT while the Gophers scored the National Championship game winner after he had hot dogged after his early goal and tried to take out Kowalska's knee in the OT. :D

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

Bemidji State making the 2009 Frozen Four!

Bemidji State getting an at large bid in 2010.

Bemidji State's first appearence in the D-I tournament in 2005, taking Denver to OT :) and losing on a deflection off a Denver leg... :(

Great story, and I say "Good for her!" I've encountered Michigan fans enough times and they can be pretty obnoxious.

Re: What is your favorite playoff moment?

Most of mine have been mentioned by others, and some of my nightmare memories have also been mentioned.

Molly-gate was the best hockey weekend I've ever been to (I was not a fan of hockey yet for my team's national championships). My favorite part of that weekend though, was Jed Ortmeyer's grin when he scored the game winner against Denver. He followed the puck into the net, and was laying on his back in the goal with the biggest grin. I could see it from my seat 10 rows behind that goal. I can still picture it now.

Not involving my team, is the '09 Championship where a Miami student behind me was being asked by an older man to sit down. He turns around briefly to yell, "My team's about to win their first national championship ever! I'm not sitting down!" Ahhh....schadenfreude.

Not exactly game related, checking into the hotel for the regional in St Louis at the same time as the BC goalie's family. I don't remember how the conversation started, but we were talking about yelling at players and profanities. I said, "the worst I'll do at an away game is call the goalie a sieve". His mom said something like, 'well, that's ok'. So, thanks to the emptiness of the arena, I spent the BC game behind the net yelling, "your mom said I could call you a sieve!"
