What if every team made the tournament?

Re: What if every team made the tournament?

Two more games are final

In Mariucci...
Minnesota - 5
Colgate - 4

The Gophers scored 4 unanswered goals to get the win, including the game winner with just seconds remaining. Minnesota will advance to the Sweet 16 to take on LSSU in St. Paul.

In Schenectady...
Yale - 5
Union - 3

In another upset, the Bulldogs from Yale used two quick goals at the end of the 2nd to take the lead, and they never looked back. Yale will square off against Cornell in Bridgeport in the Sweet 16.

In Ann Arbor, the Wolverines still lead 3-2 with about 5 minutes left.

EDIT: UPDATE!

It's a final in Ann Arbor...
Michigan - 3
Michigan Tech - 2

Despite a wild flurry at the end of the game, Michigan held on to defeat a pesky Husky squad 3-2 and advance to the Green Bay Regional Sweet 16.

That sets up the matches for tomorrow...

Northeast Regional:
#1 BC vs. #16 Northern Michigan
#9 BU vs. #25 Wisconsin

West Regional:
#4 North Dakota vs. #13 Western Michigan
#21 LSSU vs. #7 Minnesota

East Regional:
#34 Yale vs. #14 Cornell
#11 DU vs. #5 Miami

Midwest Regional:
#2 Michigan vs. #18 Notre Dame
#10 Maine vs. #39 Alaska

Gophers just aren't a second period team.

Want the Gophers out? Enter into the formula that the next game takes place on a Friday. BOOM.

:p:D:D

I'm not sure if the simulator has that as one of the intangibles, but I suppose it is possible. That being said, the only games theoretically scheduled for Friday is the Frozen Four Semifinals.

Re: What if every team made the tournament?

In Denver, Neither side has yet to find the net, and that remained the same in OT, so the Pioneers and the Eagles will also skate another extra session.

EDIT UPDATE!

It's over in Denver...
Denver - 1
Bowling Green - 0

Denver scores in the opening minutes of the 2nd Overtime to knock off the upset-minded Falcons 1-0.
Glad to see the Pios still have "the touch" to win in OT.
But is playing OT part of the intangibles?;)

Yes. Record in OT is part of the intangibles, but obviously not the only part.

Also, injured players are a factor, but players considered "day to day" or questionable are used, so Denver's lineup is actually pretty solid right now.

The Early games are about to start...

In Worcester, BC is set to take on Northern Michigan
In St. Paul, North Dakota and Western Michigan are about to hit the ice
In Bridgeport, Yale and Cornell will square off
In Green Bay, Michigan and Notre Dame meet up for what should be a classic.

Update!
Midway through the 2nd, BC is up on Northern Michigan 2-0. The Eagles scored at the end of the first, and early in the second to take control of that game.
In St. Paul, Western Michigan has just scored to tie the game up at 2 late in the 2nd. Western was up 1-0 after 1, but North Dakota scored twice early in the 2nd to take a 2-1 lead before the Broncos tied it back up.
In Bridgeport, Cornell is up 2-1 midway through the 2nd. All the scoring came in the first, as Yale opened the scoring early, but Cornell scored midway through the first, and then just as the period was ending.
In Green Bay, Michigan is in control up 3-1 nearing the end of the 2nd. The Irish scored first, but Michigan responded with a goal late in the first and two more in the second to take control of the game.

EDIT: UPDATE!
BC leads Northern Michigan 3-1 midway through the 3rd.
Western Michigan is up on North Dakota 4-2 late in the 3rd.
Yale and Cornell are tied at 2 midway through the 3rd.
Michigan now up 4-1 late in the 3rd.

Re: What if every team made the tournament?

In Worcester we have a final:
Boston College - 4
Northern Michigan - 1

Boston College added an empty netter to seal the deal and advance to the Elite 8 Regional Finals.

In St. Paul we have a final:
Western Michigan - 5
North Dakota - 4

North Dakota rallied to close the 4-2 deficit to 4-3 with a goal late in the third, but Western Michigan scored an empty netter that proved to be the game winner, as the Sioux scored just before the buzzer to get the game back to within 1, but it was not enough. The Broncos advance to the Elite 8 Regional Final in St. Paul.

In Bridgeport, Cornell and Yale finished regulation tied, and are currently in OT.

In Green Bay we have a final:
Michigan - 4
Notre Dame - 2

Notre Dame pulled their goalie and scored one with the extra attacker, but it was too little, too late, as the Wolverines advance to the Elite 8 Regional Finals.

EDIT: UPDATE!
It's over in Bridgeport!
Yale - 3
Cornell - 2 (OT)

Early in the extra session, the Bulldogs score to advance to the Elite 8 Regional Final in Bridgeport.

Later this afternoon we have the other Sweet 16 matchups:
#25 Wisconsin vs. #9 Boston University in Worcester
#21 LSSU vs. #7 Minnesota in St. Paul
#11 Denver vs. #5 Miami in Bridgeport
#10 Maine vs. #39 Alaska in Green Bay

Re: What if every team made the tournament?

College Hockey Weekly is doing a "What If" Tournament. They have ranked all the teams 1-58 using RPI, sorted out intra-conference matchups, placed the proper teams in the proper regionals, and are going to do a hypothetical tournament this week. Hopefully it will be fun, and help pass the time.

http://www.collegehockeyweekly.com/What-If.html

First Round: Sunday, March 18th (which means they will be updating that bracket throughout the rest of today.
Second Round: Monday, March 19th
Sweet 16: Tuesday, March 20th
Elite 8: Thursday, March 22nd
Frozen Four: Friday, March 23rd
Championship: Saturday, March 24th.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to discuss the hypothetical tournament here...

It think it would be fun to do the first few rounds by playing the higher seed at home.

Re: What if every team made the tournament?

Besides being an interesting exercise in general, for me, it's even more interesting that UNO drew as their opponent a team they actually played this season in UNO's preseason Maverick Stampede Tournament, Colgate.

Guess we weren't too motivated for revenge since we lost to them again.

Dean Blais bad year continues. UNO lost Broadhurst today as well, Sheesh. When it rains, it pours.

In St. Paul, the Gophers smothered the Lakers for a 3-0 victory, and square off against Western Michigan for a trip to the Frozen Four.

In Green Bay, Maine closed out the Cinderella Story of Alaska, beating the Nanooks 5-1.

No games tomorrow, but on Thursday we have the Regional Finals...
#25 Wisconsin vs. #1 Boston College
#13 Western Michigan vs. #7 Minnesota
#34 Yale vs. #5 Miami
#2 Michigan vs. #10 Maine.

Re: What if every team made the tournament?

Depressing to see that imaginary UMass can't win at Conte either. :(
