Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

Re: Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

as an outsider (sort of, I guess, since I rooted for the other team) I think Moe's comments on the officiating in his blog were spot on. Wilkins has regressed as an official as far as I'm concerned. Years ago there were quite a few referees in the league who were not as bad as he was (lets face it, we haven't actually been blessed with a lot of good ones), but I thought he worked his way over the years to being one of the not so bad ones.

But last year and now this, he is back to his ways of being maddeningly inconsistent. I noted, either here or in our thread, that his partner Lacina on Friday made no calls, and I'm not sure how many of the 14 penalties called Saturday were called by him. When the CCHA decided to go to the two referee/two linesmen system, I opined that the worst thing about that was if we can't find enough qualified guys for each game to have 1 competent official, how are we going to come up with enough guys for 2? What I didn't envision was how there seems to be some confusion still on how they are supposed to work together. There is a system in place, I know, but I can't figure out what it is. And too often, it looks like they can't either.

As for the Broncos, they do look improved from recent teams. Different attitude, paying more attention to sound fundamental hockey from the looks of it. Too many of Culhane's teams seemed to be less than the sum of their individual part. Hopefully this coach will change that equation for the better. Good luck the rest of the way, at least until Feb. 25th.

Is the thread dead? No buzz about MSU weekend?

Re: Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

Great news for local hockey fans: The Junior K-Wings have been revived bringing Junior A hockey back to Kalamazoo. Once again, they will be in the NAHL. Check out

for a rather lengthy list of Division I hockey players who have come from this league. Looking forward to a great hockey game tonight.

Re: Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

Thank Parise Western won tonight. I'm trying to ignore that other sport with helmets.

Re: Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

Great game tonight. Western played all three periods. Severe execution problems in the first period; they seemed nervous but they still played hard. Even in the last few minutes with a one goal lead they kept attacking. A sweep would be nice.

Re: Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

Good response by the Broncos, both to the first period, and then to MSU retaking the lead so quickly after Western came out smoking to start the second.

Holy ****balls. I did not expect that. Not this fast.

<strike>Four</strike> Six point weekend? Really?

Very good start for Blashill.

Incidentally, we currently have four players who came out of the NAHL. For more info and our coach's comments:

I missed this. That's excellent that there's a NAHL team coming to town. Great for the development of the local kids and maybe we can pluck a few gems out of the crop too.

Too bad I couldn't make it to Lawson this weekend - it sounded on the radio like the place to be again.

I went to many of the Jr K-Wings games years ago. It is very entertaining hockey and it's fun to watch as some of them show up at Lawson later.

Last night was amazing. Lawson was packed. People standing three deep in places. It was rocking. I have not seen a crowd like this at Lawson for many more years than I care to remember.

Wow, way to go Blashill and Baby Broncos! Hope this is a trend and not just a tease. I actually lay much of the success on the prowess of the Zamboni driver. (I know him.)

Nice weekend for the Broncos. It sounds like we might have some guys who could "grow up" to become scorers-at-will. That Chase Balisy sounds like a grinder.

What an awesome weekend. It is clear that we are on our way to becoming a quality program.

I have heard the coach speak several times and have had the opportunity to talk to him and a few players. A couple things come through loud and clear: The coach is demanding but fair; He treats the players with respect; The players love playing for him and their confidence is growing. I expected a turn around this year but the improvement looks like it might be even greater than I expected. It should be a fun ride (for a change). Bronco Hockey is back on the map for the first time in many years.

Re: Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

Broncos are now ranked #17 in the USCHO Poll.

There's a new sheriff in town, and he is kickin' ***** and takin' names. His name is Blashill. Fear him!
