Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

Re: Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

Western has done what I thought impossible. They've swept a team on the road while winning the second game 1-0. It's a start.

3-1, undefeated on the road.

Pack it up, folks. It ain't getting any better!

Re: Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

Western wins 3-1 on the road. Listened to coach interview after. He was not happy! Last year's coach would have been happy if they lost by only 2. Looks like things have changed.

So, 4-1-1 through most of the non-conference play. Next up, two with the Irish, who held off defending champion BC at home tonight 2-1 to move to 4-1-0 (2-0-0-0 CCHA. God, that's way too many #'s for a team's standing)

We should learn a lot next weekend. I can't wait to see what they look like on Saturday. They seem to be growing and gelling. Our new coach is a keeper.

Re: Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

This weekend will be by far the first real test of this team. Jeff Jackson isn't the first good coach we've faced this season, but he is the first good coach with some talent at his disposal. ND is a young team, but by all accounts they are back on track after an off year last season.

And we follow that up with two against MSU. Ouch.

A split would be a very good sign against the Irish. I wouldn't worry too much about the Spartans. Their football team will lose to Iowa and need to work off some of that aggression on the hockey team again.

Re: Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

Bit of a different look to the Broncos last night. Good response to the two ND goals. Probably took too many penalties as the game progressed and the penalty kills stunted whatever momentum they got going with the quick comeback goals. The officiating was weak, and since ND won, I can say it for you. Wilkins was confused ( there's a big shock ), and the I don't think Lacina made a call the entire night. At the end of the day ND won, I think, because they limited the damage their mistakes caused.
Outside of the penalties, Western looked more disciplined than in recent years.

Tonight should be a pretty good game. Lawson should be rollicking, should be the toughest environment ND has faced this year, by a county mile. Look for Mike Johnson to be back between the pipes for ND.

The penalties really hurt. Until the sin bin march started they dominated the game. A lot of unscreened shots to the goalie's chest helped the ND goalie warmup. Still, all in all, an impressive effort for both teams. A fun game to watch and should be exciting tonight.

Good Lord, your guys forecheck well, backcheck well. What a nice turnaround for you from last year. You gave my guys a complete run for the money last night. Well done.

Loss and a tie (screw the shootout nonsense)
Would have liked a win last night, but a pretty good weekend competitive wise (once they managed to not go to the box 8 million times like friday night)

Agree. They showed marked improvement in the penalty area but still maintained a ferocious checking game. They also did a noticably better job of putting up a screen. Very entertaining game.

For those of us who "live and die" for our favorite college hockey team, there comes a time when that is secondary. And that time came to Pioneer fans this weekend.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — University of Denver center Jesse Martin sustained three neck fractures in Saturday night's hockey game at North Dakota and was transferred to a Minneapolis hospital this morning where doctors are deciding if emergency surgery is required to relieve swelling of the spinal cord, the player's father said.
