Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

Re: Western Michigan Hockey 2010-11: Maybe it was all a dream.

You got a letter?

I didn't. All that's in my package is the tickets, parking pass and several cards with the little pull off coupon things.

Of course they could do something novel like put out a press release (which costs nothing) about this weekend's exhibition game.

Ah, Moe. You are a dreamer. I think that things will improve around here but it is going to be a slow process, I fear.

I am that. Well that, and I'm sick and tired of my alma mater doing things half-*****ed all the time.

Any thoughts on the exhibition game? Any thoughts on the upcoming weekend against Canisius?

I thought the 1st period was about as exciting as watching paint dry. The Broncos were very tentative with only 3 shots on goal for 2 power plays. Passing was sloppy. That's not to be unexpected given that the first full team practice was the day before. The confidence level and quality of play seemed to improve over the 2nd and 3rd periods. I'm not too excited about the 60+ shots we took, as the only thing the other team really had was a good goalie. If they put an actual defense in front of him, that number would have likely been much smaller.

In all, I thought it was a decent exhibition outing. I've been around Bronco hockey too long to drink the Kool-Aid and get all amped up about it and predict a Frozen Four appearance.

I don't know much about Canisius, other than they beat their Canadian team worse than we beat ours, and they played about .500 hockey last year. Obviously, I hope we come out ready to go and sweep the weekend.

Oh...and the pretzels at the concession stand were a delightful vintage....I think probably 2005. :D

Sometimes I really wonder what, if any, thought process is going on at WMU. I was at a Gary Fund event this summer where Coach Blashill was introduced to the group. Both KB and Dr. Dunn were in attendance, but guess who had to make the introduction? Jim Culhane. Talk about an awkward moment. Both guys handled it well, but still, c'mon KB, think!

I think the nacho chips were a very pleasant 2002.

They're still paying Culhane. May as well get some work out of him for the money.

He's a fundraiser for the development office, not the athletic department.

Two things seemed evident to me: These guys hadn't been playing together very long and they showed a lot of heart and promise. Canisius is not a strong team but they will be more competitive than the tired Canadian team faced on Sunday. It could be an interesting weekend. We will know much more next Sunday. Every year there is one team that performs much better than anyone expected and I have a gut feeling that Western could be that team this season.

That gut feeling is indigestion from the 8 year old nachos and 5 year old pretzals.

Is Cool 101 still the flagship for Bronco Hockey this year?

No. WKZO is for all sports this year. 96.5 is the primary broadcast and they can have 590 and 1660 as alternate broadcasts when they're not doing Detroit Red Wings and Pistons.

Actually, he is fund raising for the Gary Fund/athletics. Rob Hunt left the university in early summer. The Gary Fund portion of the WMU Foundation web site hasn't been updated. Even so, having him introduce Blashill was just incredibly tacky on the part of KB.

Huh. That's news to me. The whole reason he was originally assigned to the Office of Development and not the Gary Fund was to keep him outside the athletic department.
