Re: WCHA Thread IV

I dislike Shannon Miller so much I may just root for the rodents to wipe the dawgs out. Plus if the rodents sweep (and assuming UW sweeps), that will make the next week series even more pivotal, as pivotal as the early season games can be anyway.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

I'm not sure I buy those as the most significant factors.

I can remember being able to watch Minnesota play for the AWCHA championship. On TV. I remember CSTV televising the FF...both semifinals and the final. I recall watching those broadcasts when virtually every advertisement during each commercial break was for CSTV. I recall only one other paid advertisement. Some insurance company best I can recall. There were no other paid advertisements...just CSTV advertising themselves and their college sports broadcasts and one other actual sold commercial time slot(s).

Then CBS got involved and quite promptly cancelled the semifinals broadcast...after maybe one year of showing the semis. Maybe two. Then we had a couple years of just the final, I think, don't recall exactly how many final only seasons...it wasn't many. These recollections might not be 100% accurate. For all those seasons when FF games were broadcast there were hardly any...one or two entities buying commercial time at most. I think it's a losing financial proposition for any broadcast network which I believe is the real reason the FF championship isn't televised. If anyone could sell commercial air time to put some money in their pocket I'm pretty sure it would happen.

I could be wrong, but you would have a hard time convincing me that money isn't the single most determining factor.

They can sell commercial ad time for those thrilling poker games that keep one on the edge of their seat. ;)

Re: WCHA Thread IV

I get not having regular season games on TV. Having the women's Hockey East championship on HDTV -- even NESNplus -- has been such a big deal just in itself.

Not having the Frozen Four on TV stinks but from what I understand the reason is that ESPN holds the rights to every sports' NCAA tournament, or something, and won't sell the rights for some reason. I'm not entirely familiar with the reasoning but I know it has something to do with ESPN. NESN or Fox Sports Midwest or whatever would LOVE to have that programming.

Now, I find it hard (but not impossible) to believe that Directional Bumf*** State vs. Directional Community College football streamed on ESPN3 would get more eyeballs than the women's hockey national championship game, but ESPN has their reasons for doing what they do, I guess.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

St. Cloud State @ Minnesota State

Bemidji State @ Ohio State

Minnesota-Duluth @ North Dakota

Minnesota @ Wisconsin

The week ahead.

Still #1 vs. #2 in Madison? Guess we'll know in a matter of hours.

Beavers a chance to back up early results.

I think NoDak is better than Minnesota Duluth and will take both at home.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Ohio State defeated Bemidji earlier tonight by a final score of 5-1. Bemidji opened the scoring on a goal by Summer Thibodeau. Ohio State tied the game on a goal by Kendall Curtis and it was 1-1 at the end of the first period. Kendall would add another goal and Julia McKinnon had a hat trick tonight with the other three goals. Nice performance by the Buckeyes tonight against a Bemidji team that had started the season off with a 4-0 record.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

I will just assume that the brookyone predicted a SCSU victory (my edition of the USCHO did not print brooky's 'Kato-St. Cloud predictions).

The Huskies earn their first WCHA win with a 5-1 score over the team from Mankato. Kudos to first year coach Eric Rud and to the Huskies. Big win, LOTS of goals, and on the road.

Return match tonight at the Concrete Center (even though the AD told me not to call it that . . .:)) A conference sweep would do wonders for the team and get the program on a nice track early.

Re: WCHA Thread IV

Ohio State completes the sweep of Bemidji with a hard-fought 1-0 win. Danielle Gagne scored the game's only goal in the second period. Kassidy Sauve had 15 saves in her second shutout this season. After being swept at Wisconsin last weekend, it was good for the girls to get six points this weekend. The Buckeyes are off next weekend and will return to action when they host St. Cloud on 10/31 and 11/1.

Scanlan is doing a fabulous job with Bemidji St. so far. Swept UND this past weekend. UND is struggling big time.

Couple good series coming up.

This weekend, UMD takes a 7 game winning streak against Cornell, who seemed to find some legs over the weekend.

Then, Thanksgiving weekend Bemidji comes off a bye week to take on UMD after claiming 11 of 12 points against Minnesota and North Dakota. Maybe the biggest series in history of BSU program?

He is. Doesn't really surprise me. In the NoDak sports forum I've already read posted musings, hopes for an Idalski for Scanlan trade. ;)
