Re: WCHA Thread III

If OSU can win both gams against UND. Wow would that change things. I do think they would finally get some respect you've been wanting all year. And kinda fun exept if you were a UND Fan.

Me, being a UND Fan, would find that our hope of going to the NCAA's would be almost impossible if we lost one or both to OSU.

Re: WCHA Thread III

I'm certainly no expert on the pairwise, but I doubt that a single loss to OSU would have such a huge impact...

Re: WCHA Thread III

"Inadvertent." Okay. Just makes me wonder if coach Idalski did not know Karvinen played in Denmark, or if he did and was unfamiliar with the bylaw? Just seems like something (the bylaw) a coach should be aware of. Perhaps he is and it's a case of the former. It does seem like nothing more than common sense that you can't play outside sports when enrolled at a NCAA member university...when fully intending to play on the college team.

Being a sophomore in her rookie season I assume that in an official sense she was on the team last season?

Initially, I thought the sophomore meant her year in school, because she was enrolled in UND, although obviously not with the team because she was in Europe. However, if she was playing on another team (not a national team) after she was 20, then she would likely lose a year of eligibility as players like Lanzl of UMD did.

"Inadvertent." Okay.

in·ad·vert·ent/ˌinədˈvərtnt/
Adjective:
1. Not resulting from or achieved through deliberate planning; unintentional.
2. (of a mistake) Made through lack of care; negligent.

Synonyms: careless - heedless - inattentive - negligent - unmindful

I know, it's not exactly the same thing, but given the Iya Gavrilova fiasco of a few years ago you would think all coaches would exercise a little more care in monitoring their European recruits.

Look, I'm no Idalski fan, but the NCAA seriously needs to spend more time on enforcing the things that really matter.

Re: WCHA Thread III

I'm sure there would be some debate on the topic of bylaws and the significance of the specific conditions they address. Probably extensive debate.

Re: WCHA Thread III

Hardly scandalous! I think the NCAA rule book is more complicated then the tax code! haha..but anyways, there was no intentional wrong doing by Idalski or Karvinen (as explained in the ruling), and was "an isolated (Karv.) incident." This is nothing like letting pro's play for your team.

Re: WCHA Thread III

I left the sarcasm tags off "scandalous" hoping it was implied. :)

Iya was not a pro and that was not the ruling in her case.

Re: WCHA Thread III

Excellent point nh!

Thank You!

Now for this weekend; my prediction:

Minnesota @ Minnesota State: 6-1, 5-2 GOOFERS

North Dakota @ Ohio State: 4-3, 6-1 UND

Minnesota-Duluth @ St. Cloud State: 7-2, 4-2 BULLDOGS

Bemidji State @ Wisconsin: 3-2 UW, 2-1 BSU

Re: WCHA Thread III

On the off-chance that Bemidji comes into Madison a gets a win, let it be tonight instead of tomorrow's Fill the Bowl. A lot of people will be taking in Badger women's hockey for the first time on Saturday and would really help to get an entertaining Badger win to see if more of those people come back for future games.

With that said, I see Wisconsin getting 6 points this weekend.

Re: WCHA Thread III

I'm most interested in the BSU-Wisc series. I would like to know if the Beavs are for real, or if we just saw a flash in the pan last week. Maybe "flash in the pan" isn't the right phrase. They are a good fundamental team. Just want to see if they can skate with the best in the country now. As for my predictions:

Rodents sweep & Noora gets career shutout #22: 5-0, 6-1
Wisc sweeps too, but close: 4-2, 3-2
No Dak slips once and split w/ OSU 3-4, 5-1
Huskies hang tough w/ Duluth tonight 3-1, but lose 6-0 after Coach Miller throws a water bottle at players in locker room after Friday's game to motivate the team.

LMAO...OMG...learned that I should look at the league website before making my predictions. The game was OVER at the time of this post.
What time did they start at? 10 am???? Sheesh.

Big win for the Beavs. Congrats to the team. I guess they ARE for real!

I've a few BSU series and T and team struggles a little on Friday and then comes back strong on Saturdays. The do play hard after a loss. Should be a great series.

What game are you referring to? Both Badger-beaver games this weekend face-off at 7 pm.

In defense of p-by-p guy, the national scoreboard shows BSU winning 3-1, and when you bring up the live box, the remarkable thing is that Emily Erickson scored for UW and McKeough, Knight, and Brit Ammerman answered for Bemidji. Did someone start partying early in the Madison press box?

What the hell? Not just a score, but a detailed box score with reversed rosters. Did the site get hacked or someone just testing things out and it got uploaded by mistake? Weird...
