Re: WCHA Thread III

Shouldn't have to get over it. There should be only 3 refs in womens hockey and they should let them play and not call the ticky tack crap. The womens game is so good when you let them play.

Re: WCHA Thread III

I was talking about Irwin, not the refs.. The fact she had to start something after und tied it within the last minute was a little unprofessional, and took the two top players out of the shootout.

Re: WCHA Thread III

Irwin = all too common on ice behavior and official interaction detrimental to her teams success.

I'll say it if you won't ;)

Re: WCHA Thread III

and JLam wasnt guilty of anything in that scrum either.................................................. but yeah i see where youre coming from given Irwin's history

I didn't see this instance. Commented based on several occasions witnessed first hand...and some box scores from collegehockeystats.

Re: WCHA Thread III

Irwin feels the need to try to intimidate the Twins...
Let's just say that the story started long before any series this year, Irwin and JLam know the way to the penalty box whether or not the other is in the building, and leave it at that.

Re: WCHA Thread III

UND wins 2-0 over Duluth! Nice game for the Sioux, controlling play the whole game. Lets get the sweep tommorow!!

Re: WCHA Thread III

When is the last time the Lamoureux twins played a series at home without either of them registering a single point? Maybe there was no last time?

"WCHA Issues Suspension to UMD Coach

MADISON, Wis. – The Western Collegiate Hockey Association today announced that head coach Shannon Miller of the University of Minnesota Duluth has been suspended for one game due to a violation of the WCHA Code of Conduct.

The action was taken by the league's executive committee after a review of an incident that occurred following a game versus Ohio State on November 26.

Miller will be required to serve the one-game suspension in the Bulldogs' upcoming Dec. 16 game at Minnesota State."

This strikes me as pretty odd. Everyone who follows the league has seen Coach Miller lecture the officials at one time or another but "an incident following a game" that UMD won? by 6-2? Box score.

Doocy and Lick the younger are listed as the referees, having seen them work I can understand how a partisan observer might get worked up over some of the calls they make and looking at the Ohio State vs. Minnesota Duluth thread there was some comment at the time of the game about the quality of the officiating.

Still, Ohio State had four of the last five penalties, the only UMD penalty in that stretch was a coincidental minor. For the game UMD had seven PPs to OSU's 5 and outscored OSU on the PP by 2-1.

It all makes me wonder what Coach Miller was so worked up about that she apparently went far enough over the line to make Doocy and Lick file a report with the league. I am an unlikely Coach Miller defender but I suspect that she has her side of the story. The whole thing strikes me as very odd indeed.

Re: WCHA Thread III

I doubt it, but is there any video out there that would show the hit that Coach Miller was upset about? Or anyone here that saw it and confirm that the officials should have done more than what they did?

I really can't fault any coach at all for wanting to make sure the players are protected. I've seen more women's WCHA games then I should where the officials where letting things get way too chippy and I always think you have to protect the players before someone goes too far. Hell, I've wanted the officials to call some hits I've seen my team make that just honestly are bonehead dangerous plays that need to be called.

All that said, I'm sure coach Miller was doing what she thought was in the best interest of the players, however, I'm willing to bet she was suspended not because she brought her concerns to the officials, but how she did it. There is a right way and a wrong way to express your disagreements, and from what I gather that is what got her in trouble. She only has herself to blame.

She would be the first person to tell you that, too SCSU.

Re: WCHA Thread III

Does coach Miller engage in those "passionate" conversations with her players when they commit infractions of an identical nature. As a concern for the safety of all players that is.

I once watched Shannon Miller laugh hysterically as Jenny Potter repeatedly punched Natalie Darwitz with Natalie's head hitting the ice, also repeatedly, while Darwitz was on her back in the UMD crease.

True dat.

Re: WCHA Thread III

good points in shannon's video, she seems really nice.
now actually watch a duluth game and miller's conduct, and you have a different opinion.
i think this suspension may have been a build-up of complaints against her and maybe not just this one incident.
but thats just the view from a spectator.
professionalism goes a long way in anything.
