WCHA First Round: MN @ UND

Re: WCHA First Round: MN @ UND

You can learn alot from watching but you can't learn the mentality. And I'm not even saying it to prove my point, I'm saying it because its true. When you hit a guy you hope he doesn't get up. You are literally trying to injure the guy you're hitting almost eveytime. Obviously getting the hands up is not the ideal way to do it, but thats what the was trying to do.

I agree except for the 'hope he doesn't get up' part. Whenever I wanted to put the hurt on someone, there was never an intent to knock him out of the game or potentially put his career in jeopardy. Frattin jumped at Wehrs and he did lead with his head and hands...clearly an intent to injure there = suspension.

Re: WCHA First Round: MN @ UND

I've played many sports before, through high school if that matters, albeit not hockey. I know the mentality, and I know there's a difference, unless you're a dooshbag ahole. There IS a difference between wanting a guy to hurt a little, and wanting to actually injure a guy.

Other sports are not hockey and hockey players are not other athletes. They are different and the game is different. Unless you played hockey you don't understand it. I'm serious when I say that. Its like football when a d-back steps up on a receiver and plants him. You think that d-back is trying to inflict a little pain? Nope. He wants taht guy to be scared to touch the football for the rest of his life. And when you line a guy up in hockey, you want him to remember you're face everytime he goes near a puck. Ask any other person who has played. Get on the horn with your Gopher buddies. Everyone will tell you the same thing.

Re: WCHA First Round: MN @ UND

I didn't think Frattin made contact to the head ......

Speaking of things we liked, I liked it when the Gopher tackled the Sioux player onto Wehrs. Brilliant strategy to knock your opponent into your injured teammate.

He came in a little high but he didn't seem to lower his sholder like the hit on Kangas. Love it when the goophers start pushing bodies into their own goalie.:D

I get what you're saying. "Remember your number and forget his." Pain does not equal intent to injure. Well, unless you're you, or Sean Avery, Donald Brashear, or any other cheap shot artist/dirty player.

Stay classy.

Re: WCHA First Round: MN @ UND

I also like the hick no dak fans who cheered the wehrs injury.... Very classy, wouldn't expect anything else I guess.... Anyone else see the 70 yr old guy in the first row cheering as wehrs laid motion-less? U know u beat his wife for years.

It wasn't me I watched the game at my house.

It was a marginal push at best. If Blood didn't raise his arm at the end, I'd have had no prob with it (and will say that Kangas was a moron to hit him, but I understand why he hit him).

When you hit a guy a clean, and he doesn't come back, fantastic. Sometimes, though, the adrenaline gets pumping and you make a bad decision. Like jumping at a guy.

Wow, you get it! Frattin made a bad decision, and should be punished. 1 game. If it happens again, 3 games, just like Marvin. Pretty simple.

Now we are back to where we started. No suspension. They blew it when they didn't toss him for the game. And you can't go back and punish him cause the refs botched a call.

But Marvin's hit on Blake Geoffrion wasn't called a penalty and he got 3 games! OH NOES!!!!

Re: WCHA First Round: MN @ UND

I am guessing the Gophers report back to McCleod as to how many days Wehrs would be out. If Wehrs was unable to play this weekend I bet McCleod gives Frattin anywhere from 1 to 3 games.

I would say that is the proto call that was established this season.

Yes, you can. The refs suck, remember? :p

So Marvin made a bad decision and isn't a headhunter???? BLASPHEMY!!!!

Maybe not on the first hit, if it wasn't so blatant. Now he has a trend.

See previous note.

And that would suck. I don't condone "based on injury" penalties. It should be 1 game, no more, no less.

In the NHL they do condone "based on injury" or at least take a seriously look at it.
