Wcha 24 25

Not sure if this is the right place to put it but it does have future reference to the WCHA as a couple of awards for Minnesota Girls High School hockey were awarded today.

The Landcow's recruit Mercury Bischoff is named Ms Hockey and Tunneler recruit Layla Hemp is senior goaltender of the year. Hemp had also been named the All-Minnesota girls hockey player of the year earlier. Seems like that used to be the all-metro player of the year but it seems as though they combined all state and all metro into one category.

The Landcows have a very nice recruiting class coming in next year Highlighted by Mercury Bischoff (Grand Rapids), Zoe Lopez (Orono) and Sophie Stramel (Rosemount).
Mercury...killer first name. Kato is coming.

Looks like your goalie woes may be coming to an end with Hemp and a healthy Vetter next year.

I should also add that as girl's hockey fans in Minnesota, we get to be treated to a first class high school hockey tournament. This year was no exception as both championship games went to overtime, Just a treat to watch those games. In the Class A final Dodge Country was able to defeat Warroad (no easy task) 4-3. And in the Class AA final, Hill Murray defeated Edina 5-4. Lots of future talent that will be seen playing for a number of WCHA teams.
I never heard of Dodge Country before.

And the cake eaters take one on the chin.

Would you mind posting the all metro list? There's a paywall. I like gnawing on whose going where every year.

Ask and you shall receive...
Credit for this goes to Gopher Puck Live poster Iceburg who posted it on GPL...Nice that it has the commits listed as well. Also of note. There are a couple of pretty decent 25s that are still uncommitted.

"They are kind of changing things up this year and naming a single 25 player All-Minnesota team as opposed to the three All-Metro teams in previous years."

Vetter went through 'Senior Day' ceremonies. I'm sure she'd qualify for a medical hardship for this year, but she may be choosing to not take it.

(Abbey Murphy, in a similar situation as Lacey Eden, also went through 'Senior Day', BTW.)

Vetter is a senior already? When I posted that I thought it could be a possibility but yet there's no way she was there for 4 years already. Guess I was wrong. Again.

Vetter is coming back. As much as we'd love Murphy back, I think she's off to the PWHL.

This Murphy to the PWHL speculation - I'm quite torn, as I often am when I contemplate Murphy. She's such a dynamic player - but so frustrating - I often wonder is she good because of her instigation tendencies, or in spite of them. She does make watching Rodent hockey more enjoyable, if not just to see what antics she'll get up to next, but lamenting the snark she's added to the game. So I'm very much of two minds when it comes to #18. That indecision is carried to her potentially leaving -1) good riddance v. 2) Aww shucks, now what's exciting about the gophers.

I think you're onto it. She is that good skill wise in spite of the other nonsense...

2 player recruiting class?
You should already know they are getting Hemp the goalie from Minnetonka High School...That was listed above.

Here is their full list...again credit to poster Iceburg on GPL for this.

2025

D Sydney Bailey (Rogers, MN)

F Sienna D’Alessandro (John Abbott College) From Pointe-Claire, Quebec

F Bella Fanale (Bishop Kearney Selects) From Webster, New York

G Layla Hemp (Minnetonka) Sister of Gopher forward Peyton Hemp

F Avery Hovland (NAHA) From Fargo, North Dakota

F Tereza Plosová (Djurgårdens IF) From Šimonovice, Czechia

Just my opinion but I think 2 of the players in this class, Bailey and Hovland, won't see much ice time for the Tunnelers.

I think this was posted on the ECAC site first - or somewhere else - but Sydney Wolf (previously of therinklive - now striking out on her own at cleansheethockey.com) put together a pretty good list of recuits: https://www.cleansheethockey.com/databases/womens-ncaa-commitments (link) Take a look and support her site with views (she also has a donation link). Anybody willing to support/report on Women's Hockey should get all the support we can muster.

PS - Don't let anybody from Harvard know about this.

Portal?

allow me to offer a few predictions for the weekend since I'm waiting for my neighbor to get their act together so I can jumpstart their car....

#5 St. Cloud State at #4 Minnesota Duluth (Friday 2PM CT)

I have no earthly idea what happens here. Gascon could play her heart out like she did last Saturday (only to lose to the laws of physics and a mistake) but SCSU also has outstanding goalkeeping. Could be Duluth in 3, could be SCSU in 2. Duluth's line chart last week was getting a little short. If anything, I'd lean towards the Bigger Dogs here...Huskies in 3. If they keep their poise, don't be shocked if they make it into the finals. One thing is sure: don't count the dogs out.

#7 St. Thomas at #2 Ohio State (Friday 5 PM CT)

The Doubting Thomases should doubt no more. They have an excellent coach and are moving in the right direction, they'll have a beautiful new arena sooner rather than later. And if they weren't aware of that already, they get to visit a campus rec center to play D1 hockey. Maybe they'll avenge the game that was stolen from them by a linesman not paying attention. OSU wins in two games, but one is a lot closer than the other.

#6 Minnesota State at #3 Minnesota (Friday 6 PM CT)

Will the Fightin' John McCains ruin my quiet [hungover] Sunday...FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW? It's more than possible. Yes, they got woodsdheded a month ago in Ridder and in Mankato, but they have shown moments of brilliance.

#8 Bemidji State at #1 Wisconsin BADgers (Friday 7 PM CT)

Beavers, you've had a relatively decent year. You've won a few games. Your new coach has you trending in an upward direction. Work like beavers do and build build build a dam, specifically around the Sanford Center before the transfer portal opens. Wisconsin's 1st line rides the pine all weekend.

I did some calculating with Grant's fine Pairwise calculator and gave the conference tournaments to the 1st place teams. This chart assumes the higher ranked team in every tournament wins, this is what the NCAA would look like. If nothing else, as much as I very strongly dislike Wisconsin and OSU, we can all be proud to be in the toughest and most distinguished collegiate level women's hockey conference, arguably in the world. We (and i include us fans and boosters) all play a role in making it that way. We are the conference of leaders and champions. Even the Green and White can strike fear into our opponents out East. Let's keep it that way.

as in Abbey would jump into the Portal? Doubtful.
No way would she enter the portal. Why portal to another college if you have your degree and paid hockey is looming? I also think the fact that its an Olympic year adds to the calculus. (Same with Eden for us.) You can go pro, play against top talent night in and night out, and have a league that takes a break so you can go to the Olympics, or you can hang in college and have to miss three weeks of February. I don't think it will entice any people to jump early (PWHL doesn't draw that yet) but for the players who are more than done, I don't see them sticking around.
