Vermont : Let the offseason begin...2011

Re: Vermont : Let the offseason begin...2011

Unrelated note, it appears Lonegran is gone

He really did a great job with the squeeky ball program. It will be a tough loss. Thankfully the hockey team doesn't have to be a "stepping stone".

Wow, interesting story.

Seemed like he had a pretty good USHL career, 43 pts in 50+ games. 5 pts in 27 games as a freshman, then only 4 games played as a sophmore? Wonder what the deal was there?

From the Western College Hockey blog:
There have also been very strong rumors that forward Brett Bruneteau will be leaving North Dakota to transfer to Vermont, where his younger brother plays. Bruneteau has struggled with his health throughout his career. Bruneteau played in just four games last season and didn't register a point.

That makes sense, I mean how can you take 60+ credits in one year PLUS the time committment of a D1 powerhouse hockey program and actually sleep and rest. Here's hoping he doesn't try to do his graduate career in 1 year. Seems he was a pretty highly touted prosepect. Maybe a good pick up for the cats, an experienced forward to help out the meager offense. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Looks like he suffered a severe concussion while playing in the USHL a few years back. Based on the website linked below, it was a Grade 3 severe concussion:

Some doctors suggested that he quit hockey. He had committed to UND before the injury, and he was being pursued by all of the top WCHA teams (CC, Minnesota, etc) and is an NHL draft pick.

Looking forward to seeing him play for the Cats!

What is most impressive is the ability to use his brain power to graduate in 2 years even with the concussion. Could not have been easy.

This has to be exciting for the parents - now Vermont needs to schedule Lake Superior State and mom/dad only have to go to one place and be able to watch 3 of their sons playing D1 hockey at one time.

I agree, that is impressive. Coincidently, on the 2011-2012 Schedules thread, they are saying that Lake Superior State will be playing in the Catamount Cup over the holidays this year.

Maybe it was part of the greater plan? Good for the family. How many other families have 3 kids playing D1 at one time? Can't be many thats for sure. Heard they also have another brother playing at Shattuck....

There has been a half dozen of these stories done regarding Thomas and St. Louis, but I though this one may have been the best so far

Report: UMass, Maine, New Hampshire And Vermont Hockey To Play At Fenway Park

http://www.bcinterruption.com/2011/...mpshire-vermont-hockey-to-play-at-fenway-park

I like the idea, but who knows if it will come to fruition. Have the 4 state schools compete would be an interesting annual tourney and foster some rivalaries. I think the idea of the 4 state schools was however lost on the author of the blog.

Either way, I hate that UVM releases their schedule so late. What's the purpose? I believe it was BU that has already released theirs, so HE scheduling is all squared away, and I think we have the OOC teams?

I hate the off season :(

They tried that for four years with the Governors’ Cup tourney with UNH, Maine, Lowell and Vermont. The contest lasted long enough for each school to host the tourney once.

Re: Vermont : Let the offseason begin...2011

Looking at that top 5 you would think Vermont would have a bunch of NCAA titles, but alas when those guys played they didnt have
the team depth that teams like BC and BU consistantly have.
