UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Abramson was at PC originally before getting sick (I think it was mono) and never played for the Friars...I saw him last year vs the US U-18 squad and he didn't standout for the Hitmen.

Interesting because it was because of the way he played in that game that reputedly got David Quinn to commit to him at BU. We will find out soon enough.

Finally some word on the injured forwards in that article as well...

Any word on what the pairings might look like with Philips in the lineup? Also there the Free Press article had him listed at 5'2" haha... I frantically searched the net to make sure it was a typo (clearly was).

Excited to see the team back in action tonight!

Go Cats!

Which side does he play? I would like to see him with Muscoby.

Decent period by UVM. Got two goals in first 10. SLU carried the play through the middle portion of the period and finally got a goal on PP after Puskarich got whistled for penalty.

Phillips has been active so far, got a couple of shots on goal but I have noticed twice he gets running around in his own d-zone and has vacated the net a couple times leaving it wide open when he should have stayed at home.

Agree with this... definitely was skating around in circles at time (aimlessly it has to be said) when they had possession of the puck in the zone.
Was impressed with his passing ability, has his head up with the puck, good hands and seems to skate well.
Early days and I'm sure he was amped up and a little nervous out there.

Hoff was really sharp.

Team overall obviously wasn't hitting on all cylinders which is to be expected with the off week and exams. Got the W though!

Need to be better in the offensive zone and on the PP tomorrow.

No such thing as a good loss, but that was close. Good game. I think SLU should be looking to get the split tomorrow at home. Should be fun.

Uvm needs to play better tomorrow night. They have two more gears they did not use tonight

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Santa keeps showing he deserves to play more, #1 in the country in GGA and save% and he still sits more than he plays.

Hoffman has been great as well but this should be a rotation until someone has a bad game.
And so far neither has given up more than 3 goals in a game, and of the 4 times that happened
Hoffman had 3 and Santa only 1 game giving up 3.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

They have been rotating since the Providence series (and deservedly so).

Santa was good tonight... but when it gets to crunch time I still want Hoff in net. The team plays disciplined defense... not many teams are going to put up more than three against either keeper.

Solid effort tonight... team didn't look great offensively but did enough. Thought Fallon played a great two way game out there, and Lukko was fantastic this weekend.

Great first half. They were only out of one game of first 17 (pc). This is the deepest uvm squad I have ever seen. And the most fun to watch since msl years. Get forgionne and possibly reynolds or mckinney back and wow they gave serious depth. Right now all 4 forward lines are almost equal in scoring potential. I really like the freshman forwards speed and tenacity.

Goaltending has been good. Not sure if good enough to go deep in the playoffs but maybe.

D is solid and has depth.

The 2nd half will be tougher with bu/uml/BC and improved nu and pc but I like their chances to finish 3 to 5 in HE and get a 3 seed in the tourney.

Most of all this team is fun to watch. The program can be proud and enjoy a nice well deserved break now.

It would have been a rotation but earlier in the year Santa was nursing an injury, which is why Hoff played a few more games. When you have two goalies playing this well you would have to be stupid not to rotate and Sneddon is definitely not a dumb guy. But I agree with the sentiment, if it were me I think I'd have Santa as my 1a and Hoff would be 1b at this point in the season. A 1.08 GAA is just gawdy... even if it is through 7 games

It's odd but a nice to surprise to see how many categories VT is leading...

tops in the nation on team defense,
tops in the nation for PK%,
Santa leads in GAA and Save %,

and perhaps the biggest surprise is the 13th in team offense. Granted the SOS isn't the highest this year, but you win the games on the schedule and the rest will take of itself.

Yeah, by pretty much any measure, the Cats are off to a great start. If I have one concern, it would be team offense. Like you said, we're 13th at 3.29 goals per game. But, if you take away the 11 we scored against UMass, and give the team 4 instead (still generous), we're down to 2.88 goals per game, which would put us tied for 24th. The good thing is our scoring is balanced and pretty much any line is capable of scoring. Could just use a wee bit more of it in the 2nd half of the season. But again, great start, keep it up. Go Cats Go.
