UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Anyone notice who is leading the voting at forward for the NHL All Star Game? Yes, Mr. Girgensons! Must be a lot of voters in Latvia! (And Buffalo?)

There is something weird about it... the top vote getter has 14pts in 25 games, 8 goals?? While I think Girgensons would have definitely added to the team if he had made it to UVM, I think he was a bit overhyped, and the fan voting is puzzling at best. That said, if he was still at UVM we would be a killer team this season...

I saw a story about it.....the entire country of Latvia has made it their goal to get him onto the All Star team. Nearly all his votes are coming from Latvia.

That is classic!!!!! The Detroit and Montreal voters will surely drown them out eventually......

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Saw the documentary last night and it was really enjoyable Felt they didn't do enough on the Homola and Cote years those were good years too but can't include everything 50 years is a lot to cover maybe they could have done it without the public tv interruptions! Ha! Very glad with the season start and hope it continues to me this seems like the teams Sneddon was made to coach and what he got from his 2009 final four team too early to say they are going there just yet lot of strong opponents to be played but the way they play. I am glad he made the adjustment because I was very much in the making a change camp because of what I always though was a change in direction for the worse and also just bad decisions he made on players. Michelletoo and Gaspirini may have been part of the problem and yes they are UMass problem now but Sneddon was in charge and he let it happen under his watch all those stories about signing players sight unseen and signing guys who weren't really D1 because they tried and whiffs on big time players were true. I am glad to see that has changed and they are back to playing a brand of hockey that gives us a good team to watch weekly and that it has recovered in short order I hope they don't lose sight of what makes the good even at the promise of a shiny new arena winning is the best recruiting tool you can have.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

I try to stay out of the finger pointing about who is at fault for the bad years, but I believe that the defection that may of hurt this team the most was when Willie Mitchell left. Three of the better years under coach Sneddon was when Mitchell was assistant coach at UVM and it's well documented the direction the team took in the three years following Mitchell's departure. In the Sneddon era; 1st three years 48 wins (prior to Mitchell) 2nd three years 57 wins (the Mitchell years) 3rd three years 31 wins(the Gasparini years). Micheletto was here all nine years. And yes I do agree that the buck stops with the head coach. To borrow the WWFDD line from the basketball forum lets just ask WWJDD.

I agree that losing willie Mitchell made a noticeable difference. As have the new assistants made a noticeable positive difference.

Wish they were more forthcoming with injury status. Wondering about some of forwards becoming available

One good thing of only playing 2 games in about 4 weeks is the Cat's should come out in good health and have the new D-men ready by the time we get to
the Holiday Tourney. Then we get a stretch of 11 games in which 8 are at home, a good time to solidify its hold on a touney bid and home-ice spot before
the last 3 weeks vs Merrimack, BC and UML.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Looking forward to seeing Phillips get some minutes.

Me too, he sounds like a very dynamic player who is joining the team just at the right time. BU, BC UML will have trouble scouting him.

He is a very dynamic player whose tendencies may be unknown to the other Hockey East clubs. Not so much for Abramson as he played in the USPHL and was rumored to have been recruited by BU because of how he shut Eichel down and manhandled him when the NDTP team played his USPHL team.

Thanks for the link. These questions aren't necessarily directed to you, but anyone who wants to answer. First, I didn't think Abramson was eligible for the St. Lawrence games. I thought I read he'd be eligible for the Catamount Cup at the earliest, or maybe even as late as the Yale game after the new year. Small point, because he's coming soon, but has that changed or was I mistaken? Second, I don't know Abramson's back-story -- any idea why he was enrolled at PC and BU, but never played a game? Anyway, we've done well with BU's scraps recently--see Polesello and Privitera.

He became very ill, and had to withdraw from PC I believe.

From what I have heard from the USPHL, Abramson played very well in the fall of 2011 and was pursued by Providence and Union, choosing Providence. He played well enough to be on the NHL Central Scouting mid year draft list. If you Google him you will find a few pre draft publications that had him as a draft candidate. He only played the first half of the season as he became very ill. He never played the second half. He tried to play with Providence in the fall of 2012 but wasn't physically ready and went on a medical leave of absence before the season started. As for BU, the story is supposed to be that they wanted him like crazy but his prior academic history could not get him admitted. I hope this helps. If I find a link to some of the pre-draft stuff I will post it.

My understanding is that by the book, Ambramson is eligible, but was not able to practice with team first semester. Philips was able to practice, so he is in near game shape and ready to step in.

I think you are correct. Technically, Abramson is eligible to play at least the second game this weekend but as he has not been allowed to even skate with the team, it would be a shock if he was even in Burlington. I would think he will report after Christmas and go from there. Phillips on the otherhand should see ice time this weekend.
Here is a link from a pre NHL draft site in 2012 dealing with Abramson. His illness really derailed his path it appears but hopefully he will pick up where he left off with UVM:

Some interesting names in that list.

Encouraging comments about abramson. Sounds like two top six, maybe top four d added to the mix.
