UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Looks like you guys are having a pretty nice season. Glad to see you guys are able to enjoy another upswing.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Not a very impressive win. Hoffman gets the star of the game. If they play like this against top teams it will not be pretty.

No not overly impressive, but they WON. Other than that initial goal the first period was lackluster, but no goals against. They adjusted and played a decent 2/3 period. I keep seeing this team getting better. I'm hoping for four points this weekend but a split wouldn't be unreasonable. I've been to Alfond and know that it is a tough place to play despite ME not doing so well. I think we are up there with BU and Lowell. Our losses weren't by much and could have been wins. Harvard beat BU last night in OT so they are beatable. I am so impressed by the turnaround in special teams. This is a different team than we have seen in many years, keep up the great work coaches and players. Also, staying out of the box is a very positive. That has hurt us in the past. Most players seem to understand the importance maintaining their composure and not taking dumb penalties. Hoff was spectacular last night, but he also didn't have to face some shots due to grat shot blocking. Go CATS go!

I didn't get to watch/listen to the game, though seems like a pretty standard vicotory against an awful UMass team which is all they needed.

With the students on break Alfond won't be as tough as usual, hope the Cats are up for these games because this Maine team is obviously struggling. 4 points?

I'm thinking UML and BU are the class of the league and then UVM, ND, BC, and PC are battling for 3 through 6. I like the Cats chances of coming in 4th or 5th. Important to win these OOC games and get into the tourney, anything can happen there with a deep team and good goaltending, just need to get on a run at the right time (see Yale two years ago)

Agree with the above.

The Cats are a tough team to beat this year and if the offense starts to produce it could be a really good season. The games in hand and relatively easy schedule so far are tempering crazy optimism but it's been a fun season so far (now exceed my expectations please).

Go Cats!

No pts. these are NC games. Cat's took the 4pts at the gut.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

While the second half of the season is tougher then the first half I don't think there is a huge difference. BU and UML are going to be tough series, UNH is down, BC seems to be struggling, MC maybe a tough series but all in all I expect them to finish over .500 which should give them enough points to be in the top 4 if past years hold true.

The team will continue to improve however, our two new D-men will be joining the team soon. If the Offense can improve no telling where we finish in the league. Shaw has started to pick it up, Markinson has been playing well, and J Priviterra is looking good for a Frosh, that was a very nice goal the other night. Also Petruzilli (sp) seems to maybe have gotten the monkey off his back, I was expecting him to contribute way more then he has been.

Given where Maine is in the PWR a loss in either game this weekend will be brutal to UVM.. drop them 10 spots for sure..

But if Maine turns things around, it might be more helpful to Vermont if Maine sweeps them, because then the two previous victories by Vermont might be worth more going down the stretch.

I know PWR are a consideration throughout the season... but Kdaddy it's kind of early to be worried about this right? Not sure if serious.

That's a pretty big "if," don't ya think? Judging by the comments of Maine fans in your own thread, there's virtually no chance of that happening! Seriously though, these are two games UVM "should" win. Wouldn't be surprised, however, to see a split, given that the games are at Alfond, and it's tough to beat any team 4 times in a row in a single season.

I don't think it's too early. With main down over 50 on the pairwise it will drop UVM to the bubble and given the tough schedule ahead not losing these games really matter.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

I watched the game on the net. Maine is just not good at all. Uvm is so much quicker. Cat's dominated after a pretty bad first period with turnovers and terrible 3rd goal allowed by hoff early in 2nd. Otherwise a good enough effort to dispose of a bad team

I agree that not losing games against struggling teams is important. Personally I won't think too much about the PWR rankings until mid-Jan because it can drive me crazy... although I do always root for HE teams in non-conference games due to PWR considerations (loved the UMass- QU result tonight).

I see plenty of wins left on the schedule and although there is still the top of HE to contend with we will not be an easy weekend for BC, UML, or BU.

Thinking seriously about going to the game tomorrow, but **** they are out in the sticks up there in Orono. Not sure I'll be able to convince anyone else to make the trek with me.

Q went from 13 to 19 with the loss to UMass. I don't worry about losses that won't affect the PWR. So regardless of when they are played they matter. You lose a few to the number 45+ team and your 13th seed becomes a seat in the bleachers.

I assume you are talking about the BC UML BU games here? I'm the opposite of your attitude then. Mine is let's win some of those games and turn that #13 into a #9!!

If we had gotten swept this weekend I would've been ****ed enough without worrying what our PWR ranking would be... but thats just me. I'm well aware that the games count equally regardless of when they are played. It's more of a sanity thing.

Not important though... let's get another w tomorrow!!

Go Cats!

I agree on getting another tomorrow. My meaning was if you lose these games it is that much harder IF you don't win the others. Look at last year. UVM won the OCC games and that got them in. The HE games alone and they are watching from the stands. Losing to the 55th ranked team will kill you no matter when you lose it. You are right if you beat BU, UML etc then all is good.. but if you don't you at least still stand a chance.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Vermont looked good tonight. Good goal tender in Hoffman and some skilled players. You have some guys with quick hands and speed. Maine looked good killing off the 5 minute major on Hayes and the additonal penalty resulting in a 5 on three for two minutes. That was Maine's high point of the game.
