UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

looking at the records of the teams we have played I dont think UVM is as good as the record indicates. yes they look dominant against bad teams but that is what we have played except ND and PC who both handled us. Maine simply is not good, neither is Clarkson. Northeastern is possibly the worst team in the country. That is five of six wins. Uconn is not great either, just good goaltender. PC dominated last night. I hope I'm wrong but I dont see a split coming tonight. Cats need Phillips and Forgionne back to help improve the offense..... I see the Cats as a bubble tournament team
I agree with much of what you said, but I think we all got a bit carried away with the Cats start and gaudy #10 ranking. It's a long season and there will be times we get spanked and, hopefully, times we do the spanking. I do, however, get the sense that this team is better than previous iterations, including last year's NCAA tourney team. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Cats come back and take tonight's game, and it wouldn't surprise me to see them lay another egg. The season is young and I think we'll ultimately be one of the team's left standing at the end of it. Didn't see the game last night, so I don't know if any of the goals were Hoff's fault, but I'd like to see Santa get the start tonight. Go Cats.

Nice work to scratch out a w. Liked that alex p. Block at the end. This team needs another finisher. So many chances. Credit to Santa for a good game and the entire team for resiliency.

The team did what they had to do to get a road win against a good opponent and that is encouraging. Having the number one goalie underperform and have the number two come in and play great is something most schools cannot do. If Gillies had a bad game, unlikely that Ellis could deliver like Santa did. Maybe there is a 1 and a 1a as far as goaltending goes. I also look forward to when Phillips and Abramson start playing. This could be a pp pairing with some pop. I don't think most know how good these two are. Phillips has the ability to move or skate the puck out of trouble and Abramson will dominate the boards and will probably be the toughest player in D1 hockey. Also has a big shot. The team is only going to get better with the goalies pushing each other and new faces on the way. Love to win two but this was a positive weekend.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

The Cats showed up and outworked PC all night and PC's frustration showed in not 1 but 2 penalties for flopping, they wanted PP's bad and
got caught trying to steal them. 4th line played great not only with the goal but spent most of the night in PC's end. Fergie played well didnt
see any big errors in his first game. Senkbeil looking better each game got alot of ice time.

Santa was awesome this weekend giving up only 1 goal in 4 plus periods, should start at least once next weekend.

What do BC,UMASS,UCONN,UNH & Northeastern have in common with VT.......they have 5 league wins just like us.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Was at the game last night, very happy with the result and the way the Cats bounced back after Friday.

I thought the team played great D, blocked a ton of shots and made it very tough on PC offensively.
I also love how we controlled the puck with the cycle game in the offensive zone.

Wasn't impressed with Santa though. Yes he gave up 1 goal, but he often lost his net, doesn't play the puck well, and was constantly flapping at the puck.

Random PC bashing-
Schneider is a pretty nice rink with the upgrades (first time I've been since they renovated). Crowd was pathetic. Also they have no ushers and people are constantly walking around the rink while play is going on, which blocks the view of the upper section. Also the area around PC is a terrible place to spend a day, I'm not sure how people pay that much money to attend school there (can't get into BC I guess).

Crowd was pathetic because the hoops team was raising a banner at the same time as the gane...been going to PC sports for over 25 years, and heard the complaints about the "rough" area around campus from non-PC folk but never hear of any actual issues. It is a city!

What was the reason for the small crowd on Friday then?

Apologies for insulting your town. I didn't think it was too rough to be honest, just not any fun. I go to grad school in New Haven and that is a rough city... but with a better "scene".

To be fair I've enjoyed the city of Providence in the past (but in nicer weather and not the area right around PC).

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Hope to see a good UVM turnout Friday in Hartford...

anybody making the trip?

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Encouraging article in the BFP the other day about the potential for the new arena, that would be sweet!!! I might head to Hartford, depends on if my flight gets in on time Friday from points south.....
Is Irwin hurt or a healthy scratch Saturday? Ditto Shaw? I expected big things from Shaw this season but not so much yet.....

Gotta give credit to Alex P. He was down blocking the shot at the buzzer on Saturday. I honestly think his arrival (on the ice at least as I cant speak for locker room) has had the biggest positive impact on the club this season. He scares me occasionally with the pass giveaways but its a risk reward thing. He's creative offensively, can move the puck, is good on the rush and gives up his body for the team. I like the passion from him. And he has cleaned up the penalties nicely from his years at BU. I give him credit for a very nice season thus far

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

ah, the Uconn game starts at 5:30. What is up with that? I will not be attending.......

Don't know if I missed anything earlier in the year, but I've noticed all (or most) HE teams have more home games than UVM this year. Some like Maine, I believe 4 more home games.
Anyone know why?

I'm guessing because we have to travel to Amherst they are giving us a little more time between games. Of course it could just be some scheduling thing at UCONN.

Looks to me that both UVM and Maine both have 11 home and 11 away HE games.
