Utica University 2024-25 - Retooled and Reloaded

Good on Utica for taking down MASCAC’s dirty birds… Utica might’ve beat Plym last year but still was pulling for them over Fitchburg

The NCAA description says the final 4 will be played at one of the final 4 teams "Campus" sites...is the U's rink, the ABC, on "Campus"????
We went through this a few years ago. "Campus" site is defined as your regular home rink. And you cannot subsitute another rink if your home rink is unavailable.

Trine's is. And I believe Geneseo. I have a hunch, whoever wins the SNC vs. Utica quarterfinal has a great shot at hosting. Hobart's rink could be a stretch, and I know the west has priority this season. If Aurora were to host, get ready for some Pee Wee 11am puck drops... wait, what time of the day is Utica able to host SNC?
Of course Geneseo is.

It is my understanding both Aurora and Utica have worked out arrangements with the other tenants if they end up hosting the championship weekend.

1 PM.

He's gonna be pretty confused when Grandpa starts fighting some guy he knows from a hockey forum before the game 😅
Poppie doesn't raise his hand in anger against anyone anymore.

(Once in a while, he raises his hands in self-defense when Grammie tries to help herself in the middle of the night, but never in anger.)

I've heard the same thing as far as The Aud goes, and just read that Aurora's rink seats 2,800, but nothing regarding if it is willing to host.

Both venues appear to be fine in terms of capacity alone, and The Ira's capacity is 1,800, which might be bursting at the seams if some combination of Hobart, Utica, Genny get that far.

Similar prediction things apply to The Aud. I'd damn-near bet my life that it would sell out if UU and either HC or Geneseo make the FF.

(And, no I haven't run the numbers via the possibility of that happening, JSYK, so don't pounce. Most of us don't study D-3 hockey.)

If Utica is going to work out, there's going to have to be a big bit of flexibility coming

Aud currently has soccer Friday, Comets Saturday, soccer Sunday, the soccer being the last weekend of the regular season so the options there are slim

Its already worked out. Final 4 is Friday and Sunday

I don't know if you read anything I said, but there's soccer at the Aud on.....Friday and Sunday
And I said it has already been worked out internally. Whether that means moving the soccer games over to the Nexus, changing times of the soccer games, etc. remains to be seen. There has been some discussion that Utica is the only team remaining that has submitted a bid to host.

Plus, when the championship game is on a Sunday, it is usually at 4:00. It could be run a little earlier. Though, I suppose that's still not enough time to put the turf down for soccer, so I guess my point is moot.

However, you are correct -- the conflicts have been worked out.

Regardless if whether ot not UU makes it that far?

Well, there're other Upstate teams in the mix. Even without Utica there, there'll probably be a modicum of local interest.

Have you not been paying attention?

This year's championship weekend has to be on a "campus" (i.e., home rink) site of one of the remaining four teams. Period. If Utica loses Saturday, they can no longer host it.

This is why the NCAA is panicking (maybe panicking enough to ignore their rules and put it in Utica anyway? Who knows... But I doubt the other tenants who are willing to accommodate the home team would be willing to make the same concessions without Utica in it). They have very few good choices with the teams left in the tournament, especially since they wanted to go west.

It is my understanding that Curry and Geneseo have not bid for it. Nor has any western team, officially. Some are apparently rethinking their stance (Aurora, like Utica, has conflicts as they, too, play on a rink that isn't theirs, which might have been worked out). Nobody wants it in Hobart, who has bid for it. Hamilton would also be a poor choice, but I have no idea whether they put in a bid.

Just imagine this scenario -- three western teams win this weekend, but nobody wants it. So, the only choice is Curry/Hamilton, which can't handle it. (Looking at pictures, the Curry facility looks really nice, and appears it can handle the tournament from a logistical standpoint. But the seating is small, so you run into the same problem as Hobart -- being able to accommodate the fanbases of four teams.)

Personally, my gut feeling without much evidence, is the winner of the SNC/Utica game is going to host it, even if SNC hasn't yet put in a formal bid.

What are you basing your assumptions on that nobody in the west bid? Do you REALLY believe that Aurora and St. Norbert didn't bid? I don't know for sure but I would find that VERY difficult to believe, especially in St. Norbert's case.

From reliable sources within the NCAA, and in some cases, the schools themselves. And others in my position have been collaborating the same things.

But I'm with you; I find it difficult to believe SNC did not bid. But like I said, some are apparently rethinking their stance.

EDIT: I have it on good authority that at least AU and SNC both bid to host BEFORE the deadline so assuming one of them wins, the FF will be out west.
