Utica University 2024-25 - Retooled and Reloaded

You know what's crazy, I don't even know if this is really a flex, because y'all pretty much only post in this thread so I don't know who you're actually a fan of

Do you want to tell us your fandom so we can determine your relevancy the last decade?

I played at Hobart...they are the team I "root" for.

There are a number of amazing D3 programs that I've admired over the years (Stevens Point, Middlebury, Oswego, Norwich, Plattsburgh, St. Norbert, etc.). I'm not so sure Hobart has earned the right to be mentioned in that kind of company (yet)...but they're working on it. At the least, I'd say with confidence that they are "relevant".....

- Hobart has won the last 2 NCAA D3 championships
- They are making their 10th straight NCAA tournament appearance - the longest active streak in D3 hockey.
- They've made the NCAA tournament 14 times overall...and played in the final four 5 times.
- Hobart has now won 52 straight games at the Cooler...which is an NCAA D3 record.
- There W-L-T record (to date) over the past 3 seasons is 83-5-2.

I think they are there now. The second title last year cemented being mentioned in the same conversation as those schools you listed IMHO.

Few programs have accomplished more in the last 20 years that Hobart has, including some of the schools mentioned in that group you listed.

I think Fitchburg gained a lot of new fans this week!
LOL

On a more serious note, expecting Utica to win... (Because if they don't, we could see a Kool Aid situation for all of Utica fandom.)

Let's look ahead. If indeed they play St. Norbert, home ice or not, that is not going to be an easy game. SNC may not have been as powerful as years past, but they ended the season nicely, and Coughlin always has that team playing their best when it matters most. So, all joking aside about whether Utica even makes the semifinals, there's a good chance they won't simply on the basis that is going to be one tough quarterfinal.

I was just looking up something, and I discovered that earlier this month, Potsdam beat Utica, 18-3!!!!

Well okay, it was in men's lacrosse. But still, a nice wipeout. And it did bring a larger than usual smile to my face. :)

Probably be an early afternoon start. Can do both!
I actually thought about it. But it is pushing it. Especially if there's overtime.

However, family comes first. My nephew plays lacrosse for Morrisville, and they have a game at Alfred State that afternoon. So, I'll be going from there to Hobart. (Interestingly, they are at Alfred University this Saturday, so I'll be going from there to Geneseo.)

To be fair, and I did look, but you didn't post in the Hobart thread once and spent more time and effort in here, so no one could've ever guessed that 🤷‍♂️

It is interesting that Fishsticks gets called out on here on multiple fronts and he has disappeared for the last 48 hours.

To be fair , the Hobart thread is pretty
Dead and I’m sure Llama isn’t interested in just responding to me. Other than bashing The Cooler, things are pretty boring , we have a great coach so there’s no controversy like you see on the Norwich site and no talk about D1 like you’ve seen in the past on this thread, just a bunch of Hobart boring winning to discuss….. and frankly I’m an all sport supporter and don’t have the knowledge level many hockey posters have here. I played football and the D3.com board for the Liberty League football is very active, but all of our multi sport rivalries are playing D1 hockey( Union, RPI , Clarkson, RIT) so there is no crossover interest. It’s more fun to jump on the Utica thread for what little amusement there is.
I’d love to see a Hobart - Utica final at the Aud, Utica playing for its first NCAA title and Hobart crushing their dreams with a three peat in Utica’s house. Good luck to Utica against Fitchburg……don’t lose and ruin my dream. We’ll be having practice at The Cooler and resting up😀

You must be on the wrong thread because you are making sense. Good luck this tourney, save the Cooler and Llama has been on this board awhile.

All good with regards to calling me out on a "lack of activity". That's fair, to be sure. I don't post much anymore, but I still poke around and read what everyone is talking about.

Unfortunately, the Hobart thread recently ended up being me and Bartman chatting with each other. For the record, we've never met and are not currently dating. :p

I'll say this...as a guy who's been around a while....try to assume good will. Most folks on here have no interest in attacking others....unless they are attacked. Then the "gloves come off"....and the conversations typically go south. I'm sure I'm guilty of that over the years, we all tend to get a bit "competitive".

And I will say this (one more time)....if Hobart can't get a 3rd title I'd LOVE to see Geneseo or Utica bring it home. No disrespect to the rest of the field....but (IMO) both programs have been close for a while....so I think it would be great to see them get rewarded for their excellence.

My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Laura Cosmento several times. She was totally onboard with a D1 hockey program for the men. You should know she also was realistic. She knew there was not the resources for a D1 program at Utica. Before she retired we had this conversation. I believe the changing of Presidents has had zero change regarding this.
In another note we are all looking forward to the weekend

This was before a substantial amount of money was raised in an effort to go D1. The presidency turned over that same offseason. Enough money was raised to make it happen, and if Laura was still there it would have.
