Utica University 2022-23: Is This The Year?

Word on the street is the Comets game will be moved to the 23rd, and then the 24th will be open for the Frozen Four

Doesn't matter if they can't win this weekend though

Heard the same, Comets have said all along they would compromise should Utica have the opportunity to host.

But only thing that matters is Saturday

Been discussed endlessly on here but the answer is yes. Keep in mind the final four is Friday and Sunday this year, the Comets game on the 25th does not matter.

UNE looks better than they were last year. Lets hope for a good game on Saturday.

I don't profess to have a valid take on this game, but I WILL say that this Utica team is deeper and more relentless that last year's squad, and with a sense of vengeance on it's mind.

If I had to bet my life, UU beats UNE on Saturday, maybe 4-1 or so, but then falls in a close one v. Adrian in the next round.

Lack of goaltending ended up biting them at the end of the day. There is really no other way to put it. Shots 62-28, Utica controlled the play after the first 20 minutes. We might see 3 new goalies on the roster next year. Some very decorated seniors ended their careers and have lots to be proud of. There will be some huge shoes to fill.

You win as a team and you lose as a team. I remember a couple years ago after Utica had another one and done in the NCAA tournament and Utica posters here were calling out the goaltender by name as the reason. I think someone actually associated with the Utica program then created an account and asked the poster (I believe it was Fishman, but I'm not 100% certain) to meet in person to discuss over beers and/or food. Don't know if that ever happened.

Blaming goaltending is bush league.

Good assessment, because if you take 68 SOG and only score 4 as a team, that seems to also be part of the problem.

I don't mean to to kick anyone when they're down. My alma mater didn't even qualify for the tournament this year.

Pontificating about an imminent move to D1. Convinced on hosting the Frozen Four even though they had yet to qualify for it. Calling out specific players as being the problem, etc etc. I honestly feel bad for the people actually connected to the Utica program (coaches, players, alum.) Just a couple posters here have everyone rooting against Utica, it's through absolutely no fault of the players or how Heenan runs his program.

This is a ridiculous post. Top to bottom a ridiculous post. They are going D1, anyone associated with the university could confirm that for you. Pioneer and myself made it a point to emphasize that the only game that mattered was Saturdays. The rest of the posters were the ones talking about Utica hosting. Fishman may be outlandish but other than him there aren’t any Utica posters who engage in yours and SirNubs BS that you try and stir up. I can tell you there are more than one or two posters on here with connections to the program.

I figured Utica would get out-'tended at some point. Could see it coming all year.

Anyway, great season. It was fun.

Then why haven't you posted about it all year? Instead we get this fake indifference from you about how it was a "great" season.

Let me clue you in on something, Stevie. A "great" year for a perennial national power is when you hang a banner that has "NCAA" in front of the word "champion" instead of "UCHC." No wonder you guys spit the bit every year.

To be fair, Fishman did make his concern about Utica's goaltending quite early in the season. And he was definitely setting "himself' up for a lose in the last few weeks of the season. He knew it might come.

If I missed it I missed it. The rest of my post still stands.

Agreed, I think it was after the opening weekend that Fish posted his concerns about tending. I have had the same feeling all season, and it seems to be a general sentiment around the arena as well that tending is the weakest spot. However, I can agree with Prezde above and say tending isn’t the only issue. A reoccurring issue I have seen the past few seasons from UU is a lack of step up in the playoffs. While other teams play at a higher pace come playoffs UU seems to mostly play at the same intensity as the regular season (barring moments here and there like the 3 unanswered last night).

I have season tickets with a large group of people and when talking to them, we all question the #1 ranking most of the time. My feeling is even if the PWR is a perfect system that accounts for everything perfectly (which we all know it’s not quite) something it doesn’t account for is preparedness. And quite frankly as long as UU is in such a weak league as UCHC, they will never be prepared to play against top ranked opponents. They can basically glide through the season and never have to learn how to grind out hard wins. That’s what the playoffs are, a grind, and the team that grinds the hardest typically comes out victorious.

Can you please post here on behalf of Utica fans more often?
