For the record, I did not think Oswego would beat Norwich either. I was just a little more reserved with my opinion. I blame it all on RIT.
As do I.
This weekend's games were not "data", they were a benchmark at where the teams are at this part (the most important part), of the season. If you can look at the results of this weekend objectively (or what you may have seen with your own eyes as many of us did) and tell me that Utica was the best team in the East then there is no reasoning with you. I watched the games (quarter finals too) and can say that as much as WEC was the best team, Utica performed the worst of the four.
If we were to let computers decide champions, then maybe, just maybe Utica would be the best in the East. Facts are when it COUNTED MOST, the Pioneers could not perform under pressure. With an opportunity to win an outright regular season title, they were tied by Manhattanville. With the #1 seed in their conference tourney, they bowed out early on home ice to the #4 seed. They did win their quarterfinal game at home in the NCAA, which is certainly a significant accomplishment, but on the biggest stage they laid an egg a week later.
You have hung your hat all year on one regular season game, a 6-0 thrashing of Oswego (maybe two as Utica beat them twice). It is too bad that all those games were, were two of 25 regular season games that in the grand scheme of things made Utica the #2 seed in the East (behind Norwich) and made Oswego the #4.
Utica had a fantastic year, but to put it in perspective, at the end of the day:
Utica won a regular season championship (Congratulations, no small feat)
Utica lost in their conference semi-finals
Utica received the #2 seed in the East from the NCAA
Utica won an NCAA QF game on home ice (home ice which they earned by virtue of their great regular season)
Utica lost to an excellent WEC squad in the Frozen Four
This is a season that has been had numerous times by several teams in the East. I understand the enthusiasm you have this being your first (of possible many to come) but the chest thumping needs to stop. UTICA DID NOT HAVE THE BEST SEASON IN THE EAST. Two H2H losses aside, another team in the East won their conference outright, won their conference tourney, and made it further than Utica in the NCAA's. I would take filling the trophy case with two trophies, and hanging a NCAA Runner Up (if my school did this sort of thing) over what Utica accomplished this year (including the H2H victories) every time.
My apologies to all of the sane, reasonable, respectful, and great Utica posters on this board. This post is directed to one person and one person only (maybe two with PIO1's shot regarding Oz and Norwich earlier in the week).
Best of luck next year, I do wish Utica sustained success. They were a lot of fun to follow this year (save most of your late night posts).
The weekend games were, of course, "data", and in fact were by far the best weekend of directly comparative data involving UC, OSU and Norwich.
Utica came out ahead in the majority of the comparisons between these three teams, even if you irrationally insist on discounting H2H, which is clearly the most salient stat when looking at the UC/OSU comparison.
The best team won in Placid, and it doesn't matter one way or the other which Eastern team finished second in some ranking-construct... But it's simply ridiculous to place OSU before UC, on the basis of the entire season.
(Your post was utterly absurd, in other words.)
I've noticed, but I don't buy it. No metric is sacred.

you know we're not supposed to be on this thread.....read only unless u have a u, pioneer or moose in your signature. Look it up; it was in the fine print of the oswego fa press release.
OSU won we lost that what places them ahead of us now stop making the other Utica fans look like idiots because none of it matters anyway because WEC was the best team this year and who ever is second is just the first loser
If we are going to talk about anything lets talk about what this team needs to do to get back to teh frozen four next year like picking up some more consistent d-men and for the love of god working on a new pp system over the off season
Utica has a good fan base except for 2 bone head men (not students) sitting by the penalty boxes. Before the game started I was hoping for a Oz -Utica Final but once these two started I changed my mind. One guy was like a KKK leader trying to start something. Swearing at the refs is not called for. Also screaming at a EC player in the penalty box shows no class. I will Sat the EC player got the last laugh when he put up 1 finger and than 3 fingers to show what the score was. The other bone head had his blue & orange antique hockey helmet on. He was constantly complaining & sometimes swearing to the refs if a call was called against Utica or if a call was not called against EC. These games are college games and not pro games. Hopefully these two do not have children involved in sports
ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?! You have been citing Krach ALL YEAR as to why Utica is better than everyone else! Now that Krach has Oswego ahead of Utica, "no metric is sacred"??![]()
You've reeled in some whoppers before, but this one takes the cake!
As has been pointed out by numerous posters, Utica won just one of their last four games, putting a real hit on win%. What I find fascinating is the effect UWEC's two wins against Utica and Oswego had on the SOS rankings. Now 7 out of the top 8 SOS places are held by western teams (Utica is 3rd). I don't think that happened the last two years when St. Norbert won the NC.
But it's simply ridiculous to place OSU before UC, on the basis of the entire season.
