Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

If they play there for one season and leave the upside is that the Aud will get renovations and hopefully they'll fix that ice problem you guys have down there.

That's an excellent point... Improving the A/C and the ice would be how I'd spend the money, but I'm afraid that The Aud will blow it all on silly cosmetic changes.

Guess we're going to see how far-sighted the management is before long, and how much influence Vancouver has had in the process.

Comets have sold 1100 season tix in five days !:) The aud is getting new heating and cooling systems, a new façade, press boxes, new locker rooms and a player lounge etc. There are also 3-4 new restaurants being built in the area including a sports bar and grill behind the aud(old Potter school) and 400 new parking spaces. All good for the city and some of us hockey fans !!!

The "contract" is six years, everyone I have talked to is completely psyched we get to see the "big boys" play !! You now have your choice of D1(Colgate), D3(Utica), or the AHL. Winter will be a little easier for hockey fans.

Does anyone actually go to see Colgate play? They never seem to have anybody at their games..

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

I go all the time, if you think D3 hockey is good, go check out D1. See the big boys skate, awesome !!!

Starr was not my favorite building (never mind I never saw Clarkson win there). It felt like a dump.

I understand that 'gate is getting a modern barn. That will help. But lucky fans in the area have a choice of Hamilton, Utica, and Colgate plus the AHL team. Wish I had those choice down here.

To the best of my recollection the word "ice" has never been included in mention of planned improvements at the Aud.

My choices are the Avs, the Fish, the Eagles, or DU. I kind of think that the Utica area has a nice set of choices.

I haven't anything about that either, but the ice is the single biggest issue at The Aud. (The surface is slushy on a warm-ish day in March, FCS... Can you imagine the AHL attempting to play on that surface into June, when the players will need SCUBA flippers?)

I can't, and I'm thinking it'll be another excuse- aside from the absolutely guaranteed poor attendance -that Vancouver will cite when they bolt after one season.

We are all being used here, folks. That 5 million of public money came out of your pockets to stage a temporary sideshow.

Enjoy it if you can, but the Comets won't get a dime from me... I just don't care to support a franchise that has nothing to do with the community.

I have an autographed game worn Jared Allison Utica College hockey Jersey. Jersey is signed by the entire 2004 team as well. $100. Anyone interested, call or text 315-360-2112.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

Utica Comets schedule hasn't been released. I am happy the Pios "seemed" to get first choice on the home dates, so far so good !

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

Yeah, I was amazed that all the games seemed to be on Fridays/Saturdays. Hard to believe that Vancouver is playing ball with UC on that one, but it's good to see.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

Pags has resigned and is headed to Holy Cross.

Not surprised one bit, to be honest. Guy is one heck of a goalie coach and was worth more than we could pay him, plus he recently got married.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

Bad news, but best of luck to him.

UC's goal-tending has been beyond good in recent years; I hope there's someone else who can pick up the ball.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

speaking of goalies why is Utica bringing in another goalie, dont they already have 3 goalies

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

Can't have too many quality prospects at that position... And, judging from what I've seen, UC didn't have a lot of quality behind Nick last year.

Well new goalie comming in peaked about 3 years ago. You can have too many goalies. To keep them at the top of their game having two pushing each other and a young third prospect is optimal.

Ray calling USA v Canada live from Lake Placid on Fast Hockey.... Won't be long now til his voice fills the Aud...

Utica nailed down an excellent long term pickup this year.

Kid named Trent Samuels-Thomas. He is here this season, but is ineligible to play until next season. Played in the USHL for 3 seasons, and also spent a full season with Drummondville of the QMJHL. As a result of that season with Drummondville, he'll sit this season as a penalty and be eligible to play beginning the 14-15 season. Beyond encouraging to be bringing in this type of prospect to Utica.

Also, maybe you've heard of his older brother. Quinnipiac star Jordan Samuels-Thomas.

New players I have seen or have received confirmation that they are on campus:
Boby
Hanth
Powers
Walters
Walker
Zelzer
Lazzaro
Bushinski
Samuels-Thomas
Also have seen former New Hartford and National Sports Academy defenseman Alex Fukes around. Not sure if he will play.

In addition, the new Assistant has been hired and is on campus. Will find out more the next time I see coach as to who he is.

For some reason I had it in my head that it was 1 year of eligibility for every game played in the Q, but I guess I was wrong. Looks like a solid pickup for the Pios!
