Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

Re: Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

ICYMI:

Trever Hertz to Mississippi (SPHL).

My gut tells me if either wants to go, Gaffney or Slowikowski would get the call next. If not, next year.

Re: Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

Gaffney could definitely play for some years at that level, but that might be a waste of his time... Low-minor hockey is pretty depressing to watch, and doesn't pay well at all.

Low level Europe pays about 1,000E per month + free housing.

Not a heck of a lot, but single in France or Switzerland? Might be worth it for a year or two.

Definitely a lot like buying a Euro-pass and staying in youth hostels... A valuable life-experience and a chance to see a little of the world. I wouldn't discourage a young man who had that interest, even if he's a not-so-young 28 YO D-3 grad.

But $1,000 US dollars per month isn't going to feed you very well in any sizable city in France, unless you know somebody's mother there. ;) (And don't expect to save a sou to pay for your trip home.)

1,000E is $1,378.20 USD at current exchange rates

If housing is included, its enough to eat reasonably well over there. And if you are just out of school, it would be an opportunity for an adventure before getting into the real world.

True, and you can "never go back".

Re: Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

Haven't checked the exchange rates lately, but that extra $378 should take care of the tips. ;)
If you did not have to pay for housing, utilities, taxes and could pocket 1,000 free and clear every month, you don't think you could live on $1,000 or 1,000E a month??

He still lives in his mom's basement free of charge.....

Not in France, while having any sort of a social life.

One word: Taxes.

(Wait... am I actually agreeing with the fish on this one?)

Re: Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

"Free and clear" doesn't exist there, if memory serves, but at least a fair portion of your taxes go to what really matters.

For instance, and the last I knew, you would maybe pay $50 to see a doctor in France for a routine visit, then pay next to nothing for a heart transplant, if you needed one.

That's a logical function of government, IMO, because you need your health far more than you need your money, no matter what the idiotic Fox News says.

The NCAA needs to adjust its selection process and the proof is in the pudding, in terms of the E/W thing lately.

There were probably 7-8 Western teams that were far better on-paper (per The Krach, yes, which is the only credible metric that exists in D-3) than any Eastern team this past season, yet that region was restricted to no more than four bids, and #1 East Trinity was summarily discarded after one round..?

That's completely illogical, and even worse, unfair. Time to go "national" with the selection process.

For the millionth time idiot look at the DII/III KRACH, the DIII KRACH IS WRONG.
