Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

Re: Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

At this point, the ECAC W teams are in trouble for Pool B.

Your OWP for games played within conference is always going to exactly 0.500. For your OWP to go up, your conference mates must win non-conference games and you must schedule your non-conference games against teams with winning records.

...Provided that those teams with winning-records have actually won those games vs. decent competition.

(And, as you certainly realize, the data to-date is insufficient to have any conclusions be reasonably drawn.)

Boy its too bad the ECAC West doesn't have that automatic playoff bid now eh? (TIC)

That's really not "too bad", Champs... I'd prefer that all NCAA participants be rated along a continuum that disregarded conference-affiliations and their mandated AQs.

Re: Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

* remaining NC Schedule are a combined 53-62-12
* Cortland x5
* Geneseo x4
* Oswego x3
* Williams, Buff St, Fredonia, Potsdam, Morrisville, Nicols x2
* Southern Maine, Stout, Curry, Brockport, Hamilton x1

I didn't put in 2nd day tournament games because you don't know at this point.

In short, the West is behind the 8-ball and will need to really come out in the games against OSU, Geneseo, Williams and Buff State and not falter against the lower end teams any more.

This is actually good news for the W, because there is available ground to be made-up v. quality opposition in the coming months. (Not at all sure that it's going to happen, though... The East is a toss-up right now, and the West has run roughshod out here.)

The D-3 parity we've seen so far this year is mind-boggling. Only Platty has distinguished itself so far, albeit by a narrow margin, but there's plenty of hockey left to be played.

Should be a fun watch.

the KRACH is out, Utica is listed as 62nd in SOS, discuss

The KRACH has been out for a week or so, but I didn't cite it for obvious reasons. ;)

62nd seems a bit low, but admittedly still well within the ballpark of SOS oblivion... The W is having its worst season in terms of OOC W% in many years, no doubt about that. (I blame Hobart!)

There's still more than half a season to be played, though, and a considerable number of quality OOC games on the W's docket... (To wit, those vs. Oswego and Genny, in the aggregate.) I don't predict any major sea-change in the East while considering the results thus far, but you never know...

Right now, it looks like Utica will have to completely dominate their suddenly-mediocre conference in order to have a shot at the PS, and get a little help from Elmira along the way, in terms of SOS.

Still, no one in the East ought to be busting their buttons at this point; there has been very little evident separation between the teams with the better records, and not much H2H data under consideration, aside from Platty managing to tie Oswego.

Nothing much in the East to brag about, is there?

I think Plattsburgh's undefeated semester is worthy of a little chest-pounding. 9-0-2 isn't bad, is it? Geneseo and Williams are also having nice starts. I know it's not the 9-2-0 mark Utica enjoyed last year at this time.., but, hey the SUNYAC is a tough conference !!

US under 18 team beat Michigan. Uh ohhhh.

What does it matter? The game does not count. And I can guarantee that none of the U18 team are considering D-III as a collegiate option.

Re: Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

Posted on another thread, but I figured I would post it here. Utica will host the 2017 Frozen Four. Good get for Utica.

http://d3hockey.com/releases/men/2013-14/131211-future-frozen-four-sites-announced

"Utica's Memorial Auditorium, the 2017 host, is a newcomer to Frozen Fours sites"......Hardly. It is the Grandaddy of the three sites since it hosted the Frozen Four in 1963, just about 4 years after it was built.

Edit: 1962, about 3 years (or less) after it was built.

Of course we would be remiss in pointing out that two rinks in Lake Placid have hosted NCAA hockey finals.

Hey, a real miracle on ice would playing in a surface that hasn't yet been built ;)

FRozen Four in Utica is huge, will bring in much money to the local economy. The Aud is becoming well known in the hockey community, at least something good is happening. And, the Aud is prospering nicely with "two" tenants.
