Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

Re: Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

Because of the league they play in it was out of their hands after that. Can you sit there and tell me that they would have preferred to have lost the tournament because their regular season was maybe a few games worse than the season UC had.

NC's season was clearly inferior to UC's, and your dismissing the difference there as just "a few games" is all about you back-pedaling. (You guys seem to do that a lot.)

The NCAA already had Neumann off the PS radar before the fact, and justifiably so, given that all the AQs that were already had been earned or gifted. NC didn't have the body of work last year to squeak-into Pool C, and I'm happy that the W sent a clearly more deserving team to represent itself in the NCAAs.

(Yes, the W receives a de-facto AQ bid via Pool C, but its calculated on the basis of an entire season, and not on the basis of a weekend... Would you have endorsed Nazareth getting a bid, had they gotten hot for two days after the RS?)

Not back pedaling at all. Yes their season was inferior to UC's but it was not a "bad" season as you would like it to be. The only reason this argument is being had is because the W doesn't get an AQ, when/if they get an AQ and Naz gets hot after being the last team into the playoffs and they win yes, I would be behind them getting the AQ and hope for an AL bid for my team.

Yes you were happy because it was your team, if it was between two teams that were fairly even for the AQ and your team lost out you would say how much the system is flawed.

Would you be ok with a play off if each round were a best of three? Then when a team falters it shows it wasn't a fluke.

(But, then again, I don't understand how/why any of you types have/take the time to come here -hidden behind a screen-name- in order to pick some cowardly and pointless "fight".)

Looking at his screen-name, you can hardly say he is hiding behind it. His is broad daylight compared to your dark of night one.

Re: Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

Not at all sure why you'd waste precious minutes of your life to research/post the above, when no one on here ever even mentioned Lockhurst in the first place... (But, then again, I don't understand how/why any of you types have/take the time to come here -hidden behind a screen-name- in order to pick some cowardly and pointless "fight".)

I will say this: Green had a .933 save % in the UC and Hobart games, while facing 45 SOG per game. That's good goal-tending against two dangerous offenses, by any reasonable measure. His D didn't help him at all v. Utica; I can tell you that... UC could have easily put-up 10 scores in that game, if he hadn't been so sharp.

I'm interested to see how he'll fare against Oswego. I'm sure that you'll be silent here if he stone-walls them, and come to yap again if he doesn't, but you won't see me mocking OSU fans on their thread in either case.

Take the hint, already.

I believe Lockhurst played against Hobart...not Green.

BTW-
Brockport and Hobart tied last year as well. It was Lockhurst who racked up a ton of saves in that game, too. In last year's game, Hobart outshot B'Port 46-20 and settled for a 2-2 tie....kid seems to have the Statemen's number.

Brockport's Green (.912 - career .914) against Utica, Potsdam, Plattsburgh & first 47:20 against Elmira and Lockhurst (.894 - career .892) against Nazareth, the last 12:20 against Elmira and Hobart.

Well, just by showing up here with a hostile attitude toward the thread's titular team constitutes "trolling" does it not..? Don't you have enough fascinating insights to post on the OSU thread, FCS??

This is the only thread on the board with an "owner" --- interesting

But, if I misunderstood the intent your cryptic comment, I apologize, so I'll ask you directly: what on Earth did you intend to communicate via that remark?

Sure.

Quite simply, the SUNYAC is performing much better against out of conference opponents so far this season than in recent years. What caused me to make this comment was a block of scores shown on this thread. I did not mention UC or you in my post as you can see.

THIS resource tracks inter-conference winning percentages since the turn of the century. Interestingly, the SUNYAC competed at well above .500 until the decade change; since then, not quite as well.

PS ... this has to be one of the board's more entertaining threads. Thanks for the chuckles.

Why did I do it? To provide debate. Because ultimately, that's what online fan forums about sports are for: promoting discussion and debate about the sport in question. You offered an opinion (namely, how great you believed Green to be), and I offered a counter-argument (namely, he shouldn't be considered "great" until he can win the starting job on his team, which he clearly has failed to do). I'm not here to "pick a fight". I'm here to offer a counter argument to an opinion with which I disagree.

Furthermore, as has been pointed out to you: if you would have read the statistics that I posted, you would have known that it was NOT Green who held Hobart to a tie, but rather Lockhurst. I'm not saying Green is bad, clearly he is a skilled goaltender. But he's just not one of the top 'tenders in the league quite yet, in my opinion...

Looking at his screen-name, you can hardly say he is hiding behind it. His is broad daylight compared to your dark of night one.

Like Jerry said, my screen name clearly indicates that I am a Plattsburgh native, I make no effort to hide that. In addition, if you are viewing this website on a desktop computer or laptop (i.e. not on a mobile device), you will notice that I have my REAL name displayed, and the name of the school from which I recently graduated. In case you are viewing this on a mobile device, here's what you wanted to know:

My name is Nate LePage. I am from the Plattsburgh, NY region (Peru, NY to be specific). I graduated in May 2013 with a B.A. in Spanish and French from Siena College in Loudonville, NY. During my time at Siena, I was also affiliated with the Siena College Hockey team (ACHA Division 2, Super East Conference) as the Director of off-ice gameday operations (Team Manager, Admissions Supervisor, Statistician, Announcer, and Official Scorer all rolled into one job). I currently attend SUNY Plattsburgh, working towards an M.S.T. in Spanish 7-12 Education, with the intention to become certified to teach both Spanish and French in NY State.

Now, given that you are being so critical about hiding behind a screen-name, shall I assume that your first name is "Fish", your last name is "Man", and you are the 81st generation in your family to bear said name? Or are you just being as big of a hypocrite as you've accused more than one poster on this forum of being? Because I certainly am not, and have never been, hiding behind an alias on this forum. What I say here is my opinion, and I am more than willing to have my opinions associated with my name.

Cool site ~ Never knew about it. I retrieved attendance figures in there and noticed they still had Plattsburgh's capacity at 3,500 which is the old capacity before renovation . No big deal, but it listed our average attendance at about 57%, which is way wrong. Not sure what the actual capacity is nowadays, but it seems 85-95% full most games.

And with two more OOC losses last night.....not so good for the state kids.
What may we presume from this?

Fish, please forgive me for momentarily hijacking your thread.

Take a look at Atlantic Hockey's inter-conference record against the remainder of the D1 leagues, that of the supposed NCHC "super-league" and compare it to the despised ECACHL's.

(No thanks... Best-of-three happens every RS in the W; why do it yet again after the initial ice-chips have settled?)

My over-riding point is that playoffs already exist between the various conferences (ie., the NCAAs), and that another added-on layer of playoffs within a given conference is neither necessary nor makes any statistical sense, compared to the much richer data the RS provides. The conference tournaments simply amount to unnecessary/unjustified do-overs in most cases.

To put it in other words, I see no reason whatsoever that a last-place team in any conference should be allowed a shot to advance to The Dance. (And I really don't understand why anyone would, unless he considers the RS a long, essentially-meaningless exhibition, and places not one iota of emphasis on the paramount importance of using sample-size to make logical statistical comparisons.)

OK, my bad on that one, but both of they played to a combined .933 save % while Brockport was outshot roughly 2-1 v. UC and Hobart.

That's pretty good goal-tending.

You didn't mention UC in your post, but the fact that you show-up here with implied criticism of same causes me to speculate -in a dubious way- as to your motivation to do so. If I was wrong about that, I apologize.

And, as far as the SUNYAC goes, I've been opining for years now that I think that it's a very solid conference by D-3 standards. It always seems to have 2-3 excellent teams, and very few stinkers. It's a great boon to the W that it can schedule the SUNYAC early and often, and (possibly) derive some favorable SOS data as a result...

Top-to-bottom, I definitely consider the SUNYAC to be the 2nd-best conference in the East for the past 10 years.

;)

Re: Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

OK Fishman so you have made it known that you hate the fact the there are conference tournaments and the winner of those tournaments get a AQ bid if the conference has one. But what happens if you team, UC, is ranked #1 at the first poll next season and starts off undefeated but then is hit with a number of injuries and they finish the season barely above .500 and out of the polls. Now they make the conference tournament and are healthy again where they start playing like they were in the start of the season, they breeze through the tournament and get to the NCAA tournament where they again breeze through and in the final beat a team that has not lost a game all year. So based on what you have said if this scenario were to happen you are going to come on the Utica thread and say they do not deserve the title because of the poor regular season? I personally am hoping this happens so I can see you say how much your team doesn't deserve a national championship or conference championship because others had a better regular season.

Re: Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

Well I certainly don't wish for that to happen, but if it did, I'd stand by my argument just the same.

I realize that every year has its ups and downs, and that any particular team might be hamstrung or healthy at any particular point... But the measure of a conference-season is in its entirety, where each game played should reasonably stand on its own merit, and no teams be given a free-pass just by dint of it winning a (frequently-superfluous) PS tournament contest.

I don't mind them being played, and factored-in into the statistical process that's used to populate the NCAAs*, but there's absolutely no logical reason that they should be lent any more import than a RS game in, say, November... None at all.

(*Another story entirely.)
