USCHO Poster's Poll: '17-'18

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '17-'18

Time to show the WCHA some love.

In six games, Wisconsin and Minnesota go .500 against four teams in 5th through 9th place in HE, on home ice (4 games) and neutral ice (2 games).

Now you want to leapfrog UMD and BSU ahead of the 4 HE teams that lead them in the Pairwise.

Would Wisconsin and Minnesota even be middle of the pack in HE this year?

I feel like you're my own personal Batman. Someday I hope you will reveal your true identity to me.

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '17-'18

against a mediocre at best UMD team?

From what I've seen this season, more particularly in the last few weeks, "at best" they are substantially better than "mediocre".

I take it you didn't watch the series vs OSU this past weekend or the one vs BSU a few weekends ago. You're assuming that OSU choked against a non starter...not the case on either account.

UMD also beat the Toothpaste Team back in November. You might want to check how many losses that team has suffered this season. So, "mediocre at best" is beneath your usual analytical ability in your more lucid moments.

This team can skate and pass at a breakneck pace. Next season should get really interesting with Rooney returning (although Convery has done an admirable job recently) and the addition of some more scoring talent.

I've been voting Providence, Maine and NE for weeks in the poll (and no one was voting NE at the time I started on them but me), so it's not like I've been bashing HE all season. Those teams have let me down too much so I booted them for someone else.

This is the WCHA logic I love to see. Crap WCHA team beats decent WCHA team -- obviously both teams are great now!

And everyone can beat everyone on a given night, you can cherry pick a great win over Colgate but that in itself does not make them better than mediocre. Going into the weekend they were 10-13-2 (!!!!) and were like 16th in KRACH. That's like the very *definition* of mediocre.

That's nice. They are still below .500. Maybe they should try scoring too.

Great! Maybe next year they won't be mediocre! I'm not sure how much of that goaltending and scoring they'll be able to retroactively apply to this season, but check with me next year once we know and I'll tell you if they were still mediocre or not.

My current theory about women's hockey -- if a lot of teams look kind of "meh", Wisconsin seems like the team to beat even though its offense can disappear without a trace, Gopher fans are willing to tell you by Christmas that their team won't win anything --with not a sandbag in sight, and BC can score a lot but you've never actually witnessed the skaters covering anyone in the D zone, don't be shocked if Clarkson is hoisting a big trophy come March.

It wouldn't shock me in the slightest. I think that top 4 is even closer than we think. Every team is flawed this year and while the quarterfinals might go chalk (although who knows, really), if it does you're going to probably have the most unpredictable Frozen Four we've ever had.

I see your objectivity has gone out the window. Did I say that UMD was great? You might want to read my post again. What I have said in the last week or so is that they are better than their record would indicate. And today I said that they are better than mediocre at best, to use your phrase. And their scoring has improved. I didn't think that I had to explain that when a team has speed and passing to match that scoring opportunities are created. And my last comment wasn't conflating next season with this season...just changing gears. I guess you didn't pick up on it.

Your numbers are great...sometimes they're like the meteorologist who never looks out the window.

You having a bad day?

Like I said... you're splitting hairs here. We both agree that UMD is really not great, so we're on the same page.

You having a bad day?
Nah, I'm just enjoying a throwback USCHO chirping session :D It's not personal. The season is rapidly coming to an end, I have get myself into postseason form!

You are hilarious!
The team that beat Wisconsin, followed it up by beating BC, and tied Clarkson earlier
The team that beat MN, just barely droped a pair to BC, then swept NE, and also BTW, beat Clarkson earlier.

Next time, do a better job of cherry picking results.

The real question is, would BC be a .500 team in the WCHA?

The (WHEA) teams that beat Wisconsin, beat BC, tied Clarkson, beat MN, barely lost to BC, swept NU, and beat Clarkson are... bad?

Your entire post was an argument for the WHEA being better than the other two leagues.

You might want to try again, Gilligan.

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '17-'18

There seem to be a consensus top 4 (Wisco, Clarkson, BC, Colgate) and then a near consensus 'next 4' (in some order: Ohio St, Cornell, St Lawrence and Minnesota) but 9 and 10 are absolutely a crapshoot. Personally, I'd put NE at #9 (their results against upper echelon teams are impressive) and UMD at #10 (UMD's W's over Colgate and 2 v Ohio St trump any results for Providence, Maine or Robert Morris).
