USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

It will be hard to give them a pass, but Q hasn't beat anyone yet and St. L doesn't have a big enough book of work to go off of.
Put another way -- UW and UM haven't had a sample size of poor results large enough (in a lot of people's opinion) to overcome their expected talent level, and SLU vice versa.

The more games that are played, the more we can start to reconcile the results vs. the expectations.

true, but they haven' tied a nobody either
in other college sports, when the top teams stumble they pay for it in the next weeks rankings
on paper, MN & WI were far and away the best teams, but the game is played on the ice
I'm going with the results on the ice

You're not wrong. It's just not black and white, especially this early in the season -- people assign different weights to record vs. expectations.

And you're no exception, of course. If you were going solely based on results on the ice you'd have Vermont ranked. So you obviously do assign some value to expectations.

This stuff works itself out after a month or two anyway.

The correct response would have been:
You're not wrong, Walter . . .

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

Lol let's not get carried away.

You're just wrong about the goaltending. Team USA seems to think highly enough of her. I'll give you that the defense needs to tighten things up quite a bit more than how they played in Duluth. Burt made some pretty wild saves in those games.

or was it wrong? Losing to Maine...should fall out of top 10. Check that save %...Ok, I'm just wrong. :D

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

1. Wisconsin - winning
2. Minnesota - still here
3. UMD - was tempted to put them at 2 last week, but didn't. A solid #3 but not as good as Minny.
4. Quinnipiac - had them here last week. opening success against unranked teams had some overrating
5. Colgate - excited to see if they can hold here
6. Princeton - excited to see them play.
7. St Lawrence - more ECAC
8. Clarkson - and more ECAC
9. Boston College - big drop from my 6 ranking.
10. Bemidji State - young team means ups and downs. this week, down.

Mercyhurst - Are you Friday's or Saturday's team? (very good in former, outplayed in latter)

ECAC - looks like five quality teams are going to beat each other up this season
WCHA - Wisc and Minn are going to be tough to knock off
CHA - some of these teams are causing trouble. this is a welcome development
Hockey East - with all the talent at BC, BU and NE... how can this be?? (coaching?). improvements at ME, CT, Merrimack.

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

You obviously have some kind of bone to pick with Burt. Whatever makes you feel better.

Not really. Just an educated observation/comment and then I had responded to someone else who thought I was way off base....but it seems perhaps I wasn't.

Hockey Easy is living up to it's name, I'm dropping the Beagles out of the top 10 this week

WI
MN
Colgate
StL
UMD
Quinnipiac
Clarkson
Princeton
Bemidji
BU

3 thru 7
despite two losses, UMD (Clarkson) look like contenders
