USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

Oh, come on. Look, I know Kinger takes a lot of flak here, but what else could she possibly do to persuade you she's not a premier recruiter?

Why do you think it's "a strong team"?

Maybe show up at some of the typical recruiting stops.

BC is the most under-represented school at these things. But that misses my point. She really doesn't need to do much. Great players want to go there so its almost like she can just sit back and wait. Which she does. I'm a big follower of all BC sports and I know that they are very underfunded relative to the money the school has and they don't spend money on the facilities so I assume that their recruiting travel budget is probably not generous and since they don't need to spend it anyway, it all works out. I'm not critical of her and I think she is a great coach - just picking out one part of your statement for which I have not seen the evidence.

I'd put Crowley in the same category as Johnson and Frost -- they recruit great players successfully, but they are also recruiting them to places that are an easier sell than a lot of other schools. That isn't a knock on their abilities as recruiters, but I think more coaches would be able to convince players to go to BC, UW, and UM than if those same coaches were trying to attract kids to Maine, Union, and Minnesota State.

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

I don't buy UMD @ 3/4. They beat BC once and they go from unrated to top 4. Too reactive, there's no way they jump other solid eastern teams like Q and Cl.

keep in mind UMD came from behind to tie which is a lot different than having a lead and having the game end in a tie

sure, #3 may be too high, but then so too was ranking BC at #3
I put them at #3 because they beat the team that was at #3
this early in the season there is going to be a lot of movement in the rankings as things settle out
really, #3 thru #10 is a tossup until more games are played
for that matter #1 & #2 are a tossup, possibly until they meet in Dec

Totally agree with you ARM......I love living in Maine, it is "The Way Life Should Be" but with that said, who the hell would want to go 4 hours north of Boston, an hour from the ocean and 2 hours to Montreal? And it leads the Hockey East schools for expenses, I believe......as Trump would say, "I've had friends tell me that......it's what I hear!" :D

We visited Maine this last summer, stayed there 3 days, just north of Portland, it was awesome. Loved the lobsta rolls. I was hoping for more of an eastern accent from the Mainers though. We ate at Duck Fat, mind blowingly delicious. Maine is my second favorite team now.

FYI... Rightnut is 100% right.

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

Good luck trying to put together a top ten together this week... yeesh

OK, with trepidation I will...

1. Wisconsin - probably up here all year the way it's looking
2. Minnesota - sitting here precipitously
3. UMD - tempted to put them at 2
4. Quinnipiac - cupcake opening schedule makes me not sure
5. Colgate - a rising team and going to be good, but this good?
6. Boston College - what is going on? oh... Alex ain't there
7. Princeton - remember how good they finished last year
8. Bemidji State - surprising that this isn't ND
9. St Lawrence - always tough and proving it
10. Clarkson or Harvard or BU (Mary Parker makes me want to take BU, and I should have a second HE team, and Harvard has some good rising seniors), but nope... Clarkson

One or more results next weekend are going to make me feel dumber about this than I already feel.

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

Thanks for the positive vibes Timothy A! Although keep in mind that during the summer and foliage season, going from northern Maine and NH, down I95 might take you a loooong time on weekends! way too many tourist now!! But elsewhere, I've so many friends from Wisconsin and Minnesota, I look forward to when I can go out and visit them when not in a rush.......their FB pictures show some beautiful places to visit! As for finding Mainers talking funny, I find if you stick to the Coast, it's more prevalant....☺☺

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

it will be interesting to see if people still give MN & WI a pass if UMD and Clarkson take one from them

It will be hard to give them a pass, but Q hasn't beat anyone yet and St. L doesn't have a big enough book of work to go off of.
