Just got back from seeing Echo And The Bunnymen. The venue (The Filmore) is very new and completely lacks charm (I believe there is a chain of them) but the sound, sight lines and lighting were great. Loved their set-list and fortunately (despite reviews of a few previous shows to the contrary) Ian's voice was in top top shape.

Garbage- self titled debut

Listening to it tonight for the first time in what felt like forever, I'm not sure who else can deliver lines like "I can't use what I can't abuse/and I can't stop when it comes to you."

And consider it's a clear night in Grand Rapids with temps in the high 70s, perfect for driving around to.

Not a big Metal guy but if you get a chance to see the band Hu, check them out. Mongollan metal, I assume they electrified traditional instruments and they play with a ton of energy. Didn't understand a word they said though.

Proving I guess that a blind squirrel finds a nut, I am pretty sure this is an Neo-Nazi incelcore band, but this song actually is the spirit of rock and roll.

That's not good, because if you go to a Socialist rally you're going to hear warmed over Billy Bragg that everyone under thirty HATES.

Edit: oh, sh-t, they're actually very good.

I do not understand Ed Sheeran's popularity. He's not good, he's not bad, he's just nice. He is elevator music... but not despicably so. He is the exact average of every pop song ever written. He is what an algorithm would spit out if you put in Phil Collins, Paul McCartney, John Denver, Coldplay, and Perry Como.

Is it just that he is an anesthetic?

If you are like I was about 3 years ago and jazz curious, but don't know where to find an inroad in this vast and complicated landscape, I recommend Dexter Gordon. I think he is a great compromise between the more easy listening and mawkish jazz that gets played on terrestrial radio (is that still even a thing?) and the experimental and highly demanding sound of greats like Miles, Coltrane, Parker, Gillespie, and Monk.

Biggie: Ready to Die

13 year old me had no idea what I was saying when I was singing along to "I love it when you call me Big Poppa."
